We watched “Killers of the Flower Moon” last. Due to its 3.5 hour length, we had intentionally waited for the right evening with plenty of time and energy. Glad we saw it, but it did drag. And it’s definitely not an upbeat story. We did think Leo DiCaprio’s acting was ok, not great. Robert De Niro impressed us more.
Nonnas on Netflix was cute.
The other day my daughter was saying her friend invited her over for Sunday Sauce and she didn’t know what it was. Now she can watch it being made.
I thought DeNiro deserved the Oscar for this over Robert Downey Jr in Oppenheimer.
Living in the land of nonnas, very familiar with Sunday sauce/gravy, going to watch it.
There was a short bit on CBS Sunday Morning about the real restaurant/owner.
I think I’ve heard of that, I also believe I watched a Stanley Tucci Searching for Italy episode about a restaurant with grandma cooks from different regions in Italy.
Which reminds me of an oldie but a goodie of Tucci’s: Big Night.
Incredible cast, too.
- Stanley Tucci as Secondo
- Tony Shalhoub as Primo
- Minnie Driver as Phyllis
- Ian Holm as Pascal
- Isabella Rossellini as Gabriella
- Allison Janney as Ann Travis
- Marc Anthony as Cristiano
- Campbell Scott as Bob
- Susan Floyd as Joan
- Pasquale Cajano as Alberto N. Pisani
- Robert W. Castle as Father O’Brien
- Liev Schreiber as Leo
Woah that cast indeed
Even if you know nothing about Formula 1 - you will find
The Seat on Netflix compelling
It’s about the 18 year old Kimi Antonnelli - the new driver selected by Mercedes to replace Lewis Hamilton who shockingly quit Mercedes -
I don’t know much about Formula 1 but enjoyed this docu !
Another enjoyable Netflix-
Racing for the Crown- well made look at racing world, billionaire owners profiled as they hope for Kentucky derby, Preakness and Belmont -
The posts mentioning Stanley Tucci made us revisit Margin Call. Excellent movie, and it was just the right choice of entertainment tonight.
Enjoyed watching Thunderbolts over the weekend. It was one of the better Marvel movies in the past few years. Lewis Pullman’s resemblance to his father, Bill Pullman, was really apparent (those eyes) in this film. I don’t know how I missed it in Top Gun Maverick.
We rewatched The Green Book last night. I had been catching snippets of it here and there on paramount + the last few weeks. I had forgotten what a great movie it was, so we watched the whole thing again.
We just finished watching “No Good Deed” on Netflix. My husband really liked it. I’ll go as far as to say it was interesting. If you’re an empty nester and considering selling the family home, you can relate.
Saw Mission Impossible. It was awesome.
@twoinanddone, @classicmom98, and @MaineLonghorn, I married a gifted artist and in our earlier years, we had several trips to Italy. I brought an art history book that told me who studied with whom, what their innovations were, etc. I would read it the night before any trip. By the end of those trips, I knew a lot about lots of artists (and saints). We watched a movie called Carvaggio before one our trips in which we went all over Italy looking for masterpieces that Caravaggio deposited while on the run from the law. Not sure I’d recommend it except if you were traveling to Italy and looking at art.
Just saw Jane Austen Wrecked my Life. Loved it. Romcom with some bittersweet moments. It’s mostly in French with subtitles.
Rewatching Rogue One after the Andor series is highly recommended! Wow!
I not only rewatched Rogue One immediately after finishing Andor, but also went on to rewatch A New Hope or, as I call it, Star Wars. Even though I practically know it by heart, I had an entirely new perspective knowing the preceding events. And it seemed so naive, for lack of a better word, now in comparison. I still do think it was a ground breaking movie. Also I had seen Rogue One when it came out, but appreciated it so much more - now it was about what came before more than what was about to happen.
Andor just built so many layers and nuances and characters and worlds and relationships and tragedy and love and sacrifice….anyway, it was so complex.
If you think he was scary in Harry Potter, you should see him in Red Dragon, Schindler’s List and The Menu. He does the creepy villian well.
Loved the menu so much watched it twice.
He was perfectly cast in that role.
He’s just superb in all his movies.
(Red Dragon role creeped me out more than scared me, but still an eye catching role.)
