Senior Year Schedule & Intro (w/updates)

Well, I applied ED to two schools at that point. Northeastern (rejected ED2) and RIT (accepted w/$19k/yr ED2) but applying to Northeastern this year was a gamble and I really thought that Northeastern would potentially release before the deposit and “reply to offer of admission” due date set by RIT. Since Northeastern had not come out, I had no choice but to withdraw my application from RIT because I did not want to be in the position of having two ED acceptances…even though Northeastern is a mega reach for me considering my stats. But I declined my offer at RIT because I was not offered my first choice. I could’ve added more depth to the reasoning, but the only required question was a select one “Why do you reject your offer?” and that was my reason.

Yes, I know Engineering is a tough major to get admitted in, and I didn’t want to commit to a school where I’d be pursuing my 4th choice major option.

So, yeah! :]

I’m incredibly appreciative of the merit, but my parents claim RIT isn’t worth it even AFTER the scholarship to pursue a major that I wouldn’t be head-over-heels for, per se. They keep sending mailings to my house post-withdrawal.

Okay, if this isn’t known- I applied to NYU’s opportunity programs, they told me I’m being considered and I’m attending the mandatory info sesh next week!

BTW as a general secondary update I was initially deferred from Stony Brook but now I’m rejected, doesn’t rlly bother me though cuz Buff is better :woman_shrugging::woman_shrugging:
As of right now, here’s my results spreadsheet:

ETA: ignore the NYU date I just changed it to “by Apr 1”

I’m sorry :pensive_face: I hope you’re not too hurt and destabilized.
Buff is better for your major than Bing so :crown: you’ve won already :bouquet:
That realistically leaves Baruch, Hunter, NCSU, plus NYU :crossed_fingers: interview :crossed_fingers: – Break a leg :crossed_fingers:
I imagine your top choice is NYU?

I just wish they could’ve told me after my NYU interview today. It is what it is.

you know it! :)) and thanks for the well-wishes.

this is something i’m still very surprised about!!..I thought it would’ve been the other way around…(as in a no from Buff/yeses from SBU/Bing)

rejected from GWU :sad_but_relieved_face:
rlly loving the red on this

Summary as of 3/20/25:

  • U. at Buffalo: Accepted to the College of Engineering/Applied Sciences
  • Rochester Institute of Technology: Accepted for Biotechnology & Molecular Bioscience but withdrawn.
  • Binghamton - Deferral->Rejection
  • Stony Brook - Deferral->Rejection
  • Clemson - Rejection
  • Northeastern - Rejection
  • GWU - Rejection

I know they say that a school can’t reject you based on who you are, but that it can reject you based on what they see in the moment, but right now having 5 rejections stings. I am forever appreciative of UB though. <3
And I’m expecting another two–Wellesley & NCSU–because (a): Wellesley is a reach; (b): out-of-state for NCSU, can’t register ahead of time for admitted student event, so…nervous.

guys I think red is my favorite color!!! /s (/s = sarcasm)
Summary as of 3/21/25:

  • Binghamton - Deferral->Rejection
  • Stony Brook - Deferral->Rejection
  • Clemson - Rejection
  • Northeastern - Rejection
  • GWU - Rejection
  • NC State - Rejection

I’m 100% sure I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I’ve been on a rejection streak…6 for 6.

I feel you. Rejection is not fun for anyone. But you are in an enviable position as some students do not yet have an acceptance and you do! And to a very good school and in your major. Have your moment to let the sting wear off, then concentrate on how fortunate you are that a great school saw your hard work and thinks you will be a positive addition to the campus. Love the school that loves you back. :heart:

The 6/6 rejections aren’t related to you&tools/shed but to the fact they were reaches in the first place - a reach is a college where, odds are, you won’t get in. 6/6 stings, the repetition of it, but it’s the expected results for reaches (even though, of course, you hope.) It stings- but what matters is that you tried. No regrets.
(At a target your odds are 50-50, or perhaps 60-40. So, odds of rejection exist, but are lower.)

You still have Wellesley (reach for everyone: high odds of a no), Columbia (reach for everyone: high odds of a no), NYU (Reach/high odds of a no BUT they interviewed you for a special program so perhaps odds 30-70? 40-60???), Hunter (safety so I’d say 100-0) and Baruch (target or likely so more of the 60-40, 70-30 kind).
Fingers crossed for NYU and its special program. :crossed_fingers:

Hugs.

You can only attend one college-- and you HAVE a fantastic acceptance! Make yourself a bowl of ice cream and eat half of it to console yourself on your rejections- and then eat the second half to celebrate that you’re going to U Buffalo and are going to knock the ball out of the park!!!

Wow. I was off CC for three WHOLE days?! So unlike me.
(Rejected from Wellesley, no shock there!)

But I want to thank/reply to each of your wonderful words of encouragement, and in order. :]

I feel so bad for them!! :frowning: I remember early on I was terrified I wouldn’t get in anywhere because reality hit me after submitting some of my applications…I wish I could’ve applied to more safeties and targets, because I’m seeing the problem now…I am forever going to be surprised that UB accepted me because they’re literally a ~T40ish(?) engineering school [public]!! Which is crazy!! I am so appreciative of whoever was on the team that accepted me because…wow…I don’t know how to say thanks to them.
Wait, should I email my AdCom saying thank you?!

Luckily, it’s worn off because I guess I’m used to it now :woman_shrugging:

I also love this mantra, as well. It’s going to the Quote Book!! :smiley:

Yup…wish I listened to the little voices in my head screaming “Apply to more safeties! Please!” because “sure things” are always nice to compare college offers with. My only offers are Scranton & UB (currently) and I know I’d choose UB over Scranton for Engineering. I was admitted to UB as a SEAS direct admit (:open_mouth: !) and that’s epic :slight_smile:

It was, in fact, a no. No surprises here (my inner monologue is playing Radiohead’s No Surprises, lol.)

I am anxious for this coming Wednesday after 4pm. Boy oh boy…I’m feeling good about it, but we’ll see. I’m still AMAZED at how my interview was. It couldn’t have gone any worse (because it felt really good!!).
Columbia is a reach, I’d scream if I got waitlisted (doubt it though, as I’ve applied to some schools with tiny acceptance rates in the past & were rejected)

We’ll see! But I’m committing to college this week (not waiting on the CUNY’s since they’re rolling)

First off, when I saw the email notification and saw “blossom” my eyebrows raised so fast. It is always an honor for your writing style and a response from you. :]

Your whole message is heartwarming but I’ll take the ice cream bowl and slap it into my quote book! I didn’t have ice cream, but my mom bought a strawberry shortcake so that makes it even better!!

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. Even the people who reacted to these posts, you have all ALSO been amazing help. :smiley:

SPREADSHEET UPDATE:
Here is the newest one so I don’t have to copy and paste the Summary.

So, basically, if you get into NYU-> NYU, and if NYU is a :anxious_face_with_sweat:no :sob: → SUNY Buffalo?
That streamlines the process and makes things stress-free in a way :crown:

2 Likes

Yeah…but I REALLY WANT NYU :smiley: :purple_heart::crossed_fingers:
plus whatever school I commit to is going to be the color of my prom dress :]
Eg: NYU/Scranton/Hunter - purple / UB/Columbia (maybe??)/Baruch - blue

SEAS direct admit is :crown:
Yes you can email a Thank you to your Adcom (they rarely get those so I’m sure it’ll be appreciated), perhaps say right now the choice is SUNY Buffalo vs. NYU Tandon, and you are so grateful to have heard from Buffalo first because it made the university your #1 the whole Winter, meaning it’s hard to dislodge from that place. Then ask about dorms, LLCs, and if there are Engineering-focused tours.

Have you been able to visit SUNY Buffalo and UScranton?
If not, you really should before you commit. Scranton because it’s a nice campus and you can take a half day off to visit.
Buffalo because you may well choose it and you want to have all the information.

You could be in WISE (Women in Science& Engineering) - surrounded by motivated women, it’d be easier to succeed :grinning_face: okay they have special events and opportunities

Unless you qualified for

I will! :smiley: Wait, I have a question. Is it the AdCom the one who decides your decision?

Not really…I mean…it’s been my #1 because I’ve only heard good things from them, but NYU has stolen my heart since the summer of 2023 when I started my program there :smiley: Obviously, if I could’ve applied ED I would’ve but I might have a better chance than ED itself!!!

Buff yes (virtually) but my parents attended a SEAS Parent chat last week and said it’s a nice option for Engineering. Scranton I need to do a virtual tour, but we’ll see.

We’ll see! :smiley: I will keep everyone updated :]

Well, it’s clearly in your top 2… So you can say it’s in your top 2. :grinning_face: You want to say something nice about SUNY Buffalo :bison: and being seen as quasi equal in a student’s head as NYU will surely cheer them up. :grinning_face:

It’s a committee but they’re first reader.

Is there a way for you to visit in person? Your HS should give you a couple days for that purpose. It’s really not the same to be there in person, eat in their cafeteria, talk with students, read their paper, sit in on a class, visit a lecture hall or a lab, etc.
