Shanghai World Expo and it's impacts on China

<p>Does anyone know that the World Expo in Shanghai is opening next Monday? Well, I’ve just read this article on a university professor’s views on the Expo and what it will bring to the city. </p>

<p>No so much impact as you may expect I dare say. The city is so crowded that it disgusts my friends and me. Just sightseeing, not quite helpful, nor very interesting. :frowning: The government spent so much money on World Expo I think they have lost their senses. Why not contribute the money to education of the poor and something like that? they are just trying to show off and delude people.</p>

<p>@dawncoming, you do know that all the expenses of constructing different countries’ pavilion is paid by each country itself not by China?</p>

<p>Most of the expenses however, went to make Shanghai a better life for sure… like new subway, new airport terminal, etc.</p>

<p>i would say it helps the infrastructure construction and it sort of beautifies the city. but its not gonna help its impacts on china a lot since i would say its a shanghai thing…
also, have any of you guys heard of world expo before shanghai’s holding it this time? i know world cup/olympic long long ago when i was very very young, but never heard of shanghai world expo until shanghai’s adv everywhere…</p>

<p>well, lots lots of people…enough to tample me down
and very very high cost of tickets, hotels…even the flight I tried to book from PVG rises skyrocketing…</p>

<p>I went there. There’s a massive amount of littering and babies peeing in the streets (chinese people familiar with the culture, you know what i’m talking about) but the pavillions are pretty and somewhat air-conditioned. The line for Japan and Korea was literally 7 hours long. We ended up going to “lesser-name” countries like Uzbekistan (half hour) and North Korea…which hilariously had no line at all :slight_smile: Interestingly people were lined up for pavillions that looked opulent regardless of which country it was…Qatar was a 4 hour line (a lot of people in the line actually had no clue what Qatar was) whereas Morocco was ten minutes but quite excellent inside.</p>

<p>Also if anybody goes, please see the “Future City” exhibit! It’s mindblowing and yet there was never a single line for it.</p>

<p>I think the expo will leave some infrastructure behind in Shanghai, but I think the longer lasting effects will be seen in the reputation gained by the country.</p>

<p>I went there the 1st day I deplaned…
huge amout of people there and i waited for nearly 4 hours to get into the Germany pavillion, yes i saw the flying ball in it, but is it really that amzing??? I dont feel like that way.
the moving wall paiting in China pavillion was amazing… u should go.</p>

<p>Pollution numbers dropped… and then rose right after expo ended.</p>
