Saw Searching for Sugarman yesterday - now available on Netflix. Very interesting documentary. DH found it a bit slow and declared he was off to bed but actually stayed with it and was very pleased he did. We had seen trailers in the theater but the actual movie was better. Recommend!

Those are two great films, ‘Black Robe’ and ‘Tombstone.’ Kilmer steals the show in Tombstone. Other favorite westerns/historical movies for me are ‘The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance’ and ‘The Sons of Katie Elder,’ The Searchers, and Pale Rider

We saw Beast of the Southern Wild last weekend OnDemand. DH really liked it; me not so much. The acting was excellent, though.

I thought Dwight Henry, who played Hushpuppy’s father, was amazing. Can’t believe he wasn’t nominated for some sort of acting award. Was wondering why I hadn’t seen him in other movies and then read recently that in real life he runs a bakery.

checking in to see if anyone has seen 56Up – the latest in Michael Apted’s “Up” series. Have followed them for years and am looking forward to seeing it, but it’s nowhere to be found around here.

My H & I just saw it.
Th first part is very slow, but it gets much better.
We liked it.
Ill write up a longer review when I have an actual keyboard.

Finally saw Argo. As many have said, I love that I was on the edge of my seat even though I knew how it was going to turn out.

We finally saw Winter’s Bone last night. I found it incredibly well-acted and riveting. My husband didn’t like it as much as I did: he thought it was too dark. He was in the minority though, as son and younger daughter liked it also.

I’m a Winter’s Bone fan too, Ignatius. While Jennifer Lawrence was good, the film really made me a fan of John Hawkes (“Teardrop”). I’m looking forward to seeing Hawkes in The Sessions.

Finally saw Argo last night. Very well done.

I just rented Bridesmaids.
Um, it had some funny & sweet bits, but Im sure glad I didn’t use my " once a week, sit down with me & watch a movie" with H on it.

Maybe I will watch Looper next.

Loved Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids. It’s no “Baby Mama” though. I watched that once again with my D last week. She knows every line in it I think. The combination of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler is just perfect to me.

I finished 6+ hour “The Best of Youth” in one day last week. It’s a great movie. Good story, good acting, and good pictures. I think I can learn to listen to Italian faster than all other languages I have learned.

I highly recommend “The Intouchables,” a funny, poignant French movie based on the true story of a wealthy quadriplegic man and his young, ex-con caretaker. It just came out on DVD–my husband and I both loved it!

Saw Emperor yesterday. It’s about decisions made after the surrender of Japan in WWII . It was interesting but seemed overly long to me and I had some difficulty following who all the people were. Got me thinking though: as a teenager I remember there was lots of awareness of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the devastation and potential long term effects of radiation on the population - but I don’t hear it talked about much anymore. There must be studies, I should google it.
Saw Happy People today - and liked it very much. It’s a documentary about life in the Tiaga and well worth seeing.

Saw Spring Breakers today. Holy. That was bleak. The best comparison I can make is to Drive (2011), but it is so much darker.

Just saw “Any Day Now” with Alan Cummins. I thought it was excellent - sensitive, tender, very moving yet not sentimental and one of the best films I’ve seen in a long time. How much things have changed in the last 30 years …I highly recommend this movie.

Argo. I am still not sure about Ben as an actor, but he was very good in this movie. I felt some parts were missing from the movies…

Thanks for recommending Any Day Now, Onetogo2. I had not heard of it; now I will keep an eye out for it.

Alan Cumming is an amazing actor.

Am I the only one who always thinks of Alan Cumming in his role in the Spice Girls movie??
