Stayed up much too late watching a movie called Frozen River on PBS last night. Thought it was excellent. I though Melissa Leo was much better in it than she was in The Fighter, for which she won an Oscar.

^^Saw Frozen River in the theater a couple of years ago…great movie.

Following on movies with Melissa Leo…DH and I saw “Olympus has Fallen” yesterday.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It was def. worth the price of admission. Melissa Leo is in a supporting role

We thought “This is 40” was much funnier than “Bridemaids”. And pretty real. Better than reviews.

Since Turner Classic Movies is now in HD, I’ve been watching a lot more. Highly recommend making sure this station is in your cable package.

Saw Gun Crazy last night. One of my favorites. Particularly love the camera work and how it makes the performances feel even more natural. In one of the best scenes, you see them drive into a town with the camera in the back seat. She’s really driving and they’re really talking and you feel like you’re overhearing them - you’re right it really is busy I hope we can get a parking space there someone’s leaving you can … and he hops out of the car, goes to the corner to rob the bank and the camera is still in the back seat as she complains about the cop who has come to stand on the sidewalk and it watches her as she tries to distract him and then he comes running back to the car and they’re driving as fast as they can to get away and the shot finally ends. If they’d shot that from the front, with the rearview mirror taken out, with cuts then you’d focus on the actors and less on how they act to each other as a couple who just happen to be robbing a bank.

If you remember The Player, much was made of the almost 10 minute long shot at the start. That goes back through Orson Welles’ A Touch of Evil back to this and so on.

Just saw On the Road.

As the first Denver visit ended, I thought, “They make movies backwards. They’re making 3 movies of The Hobbit and only one of this book when it deserves more.”

Good movie that captures the heart of the book, though I don’t know why they had to change so many unimportant details (like moving Christmas to NC from Va) and mucked with others. The guys who play Sal and Dean are terrific, as is Carlo. The women in the book are kind of afterthoughts, either male fantasy sexuality or anchors that bind men to a place and life. In that regard, I thought the women were fine and don’t understand the negative reactions other than as people like to hate certain stars just because.

Really worth seeing. Beautifully photographed. Well edited. Terrific soundtrack.

Frozen River is a much, much better movie. The director has a lot to do with how well the actor’s work comes across.

^^^ agree. I didn’t care for The Fighter in the first place. IMO, the overbearing spunky/scrappy theme was tiresome - even if it was based on a true story

Hadn’t heard of Olympus has Fallen-- will check it out.

STILL waiting for 56 Up to play anywhere around here. Discovered it online on YT the other night and watched only half because it was already late. Should have watched it all, because the next day it was gone.

We saw Looper.
Confusing.
Like both Willis & Gordon- Levitt generally although I think this movie needed either a different director or different casting.
I liked Emily Blunt though once I got used to her hair & her accent.
But it wasnt really a time travel movie, I couldnt tell what it was)

H watched Winters Bone & liked it, although I was too antsy and was getting up to do laundry. He described as " Justified without the Marshall’s".
( we are addicted to Justified- [Usually he just has the mustache](<a href=“Mike Squires - Yamaha SG1820 - YouTube”>Mike Squires - Yamaha SG1820 - YouTube) Doesn’t he look like Grifter Barbie’s cage fighter husband?)

Now that the days are getting longer, we arent sitting down to watch a whole movie, because H cant stay awake ( he gets up at 4am) but we’ve also started watching The Vikings on the History Channel.
I especially like Katheryne Winnicks character, Lagertha " fearless shield maiden".
Coincidence that the Seattle Opera will stage The Ring this year? I think not! ;)

I’d like to see Olympus Has Fallen. I’ve seen good reviews. Glad to see it mentioned here with a thumbs up.

Good to hear good reviews on Olympus as well. H reallly wants to see this, so I guess I will accompany him once the boy goes back to school.

We all saw Oz yesterday. Had such low expectations, and wound up loving it. Really was a great movie, and so glad we caught it at the theater in IMAX 3D.

As son is home for spring break, we watched Argo together last night. As we had hoped, he loved it. He actually knew more of the history than we did, as we were college students at the time. But he really enjoyed the fact that we were his age while this was all going on, so it helped him immerse himself in the movie, as he wanted to see what it was like for us to experience this time firsthand.

Still gave me goosebumps to see the yellow ribbons in the movie. I will never forget that time and how much it affected our lives.

not new-but really liked “My First Mister”- with Albert Brooks
“The Kids Are OK”

The Kids Are All Right?

/Really/ hope I can see The Place Beyond the Pines on Friday.

Beasts of the Southern Wild… the movie starring the little girl who was the youngest Oscar nominee ever. (She deserved the nomination, a really moving performance.) Lovely, magical, maddening, touching, sad and funny. Recommended!

Saw a darling documentary at a local film festival called something like “In search of the Best Buffalo Chicken Wing”. It was fun. Just saw he preview of “The Host”. Found it odd. I dont recommend it.

As son is home from Spring Break, we’re having our own film festival.

First night, Argo. H and I saw it, but couldn’t wait to watch it with Son. He loved it.

Second night, Zero Dark Thirty. Enjoyed it very much, but not better than Argo. Argo deserved the win. Jessica Chastain, though, deserved the Oscar. She was fantastic.

Last night, Lincoln. Oh, gosh, so glad didn’t see this in theater. Started this one early in the evening, but still couldn’t stay awake. Good movie, but way too long. I liked Sally Field in it, thought she did a good job. Daniel Day-Lewis, fantastic. Definitely deserved the Oscar for it.

We did buy The Hobbit, and may do that one as a family.

I bought Everything is Illuminated for son and I to watch together, though don’t know if we’ll have time to now, since Bioshock Infiinite came out yesterday, and I can’t drag him away from it for a much needed haircut, much less a movie viewing.

Not movie, but before the game came out, we did do a marathon of Law and Order: UK that I TiVoed while he was in school. Love that show.

Just saw The Loneliest Planet and Rust and Bone on dvd. The Loneliest Planet is very slow moving with an excruciating buildup of tension and an unresolved ending. It was filmed on location in Georgia (the country, not the state) and the scenery is astounding. The plotline of Rust and Bone sounds so melodramatic (involving a whale trainer who loses her legs in an accident and a single father bouncer/boxer) but everything is in the execution. Marion Cotillard portrays the whale trainer and she is so expressive yet so subtle.
I really want to see [url=<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube]No Trailer (Gael Garc

New trailer for y’all. From the director of Drive.

I saw Girl Rising last week. It’s a good reminder of the importance of educating girls on a global basis.
