@scout59 - that is one of the things I really appreciated about BB; the swearing wasn’t too bad. I’m used to Dexter level of swearing, which I find really annoying. Don’t get me wrong - I have my serious potty-mouth moments, but 95% of the time, it’s when no one else is around to hear me.

I just finished season 1 of the BBC Two series “The Fall”, starring Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan. It was very good. It’s on Netflix. The second season just began filming so there will be a bit of a wait to see it. <a href=“BBC Two - The Fall, Series 1”>http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00wrk40

Another vote for The Wire. Until Breaking Bad, I considered it the best show on TV ever.

I also liked BB for its moderate romantic content. Too many shows have it all out there- and we don’t really care for it. When you have 3 generations trying to enjoy a tv show together it’s very difficult to find the right balance of swearing, violence and sexual content. (We can tolerate the violence easiest.)

Is Intelligence the one set in Canada? If so, I LOVED it…but it ended on a cliffhanger and got canceled :(

Im trying to find someplace online to watch Broadchurch, w David Tennant.
Which they are apparently trying to remake for the US, with Anna Gunn.

patsmom, another “The Fall” fan here. It’s on Netflix, or was when I watched it a few weeks ago. I hope the folks on this thread who like well-done police shows will give the first episode a try (though I had terrible nightmares after watching the first two episodes).

We also LOVE “True Detective” the acting (esp Matthew McC) is terrific. This going to be harrowing, I can tell. And the opening credits (graphics and music) are amazing.

So disappointed to find out tonight when H and wanted to start The Wire that it is only available on DVD. And of course, both copies of season 1 are out at our library. Then decided maybe we’d do Lilyhammer, but it, too, is only available on DVD.

So we decided to start Friday Night Lights. Got through the first two episodes. Don’t know if I want to relive what it was like growing up in Texas with high school football. My brother played on a team that won state when I was still in elementary school. It is VERY intense.

We have The Wire at my library but none of us can figure out how to play our DVD player! We’ve been streaming stuff for the last few years. My husband refuses to believe it could be broken because it’s not that old. It is available on ITunes if you use them.

Teri, FNL is our other (now that BB knocked it sideways) absolute favorite tv series. Not sure how you would feel about it if you “lived it”. Keep watching and see what you think. It is less about the football and more about the relationships between characters in the town and within the football community. We own the series and have watched it beginning to end 2 times - and just talked about restarting it again after we finished Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad was so intense beginning to end, FNL will seem very tame in comparison.

@kathiep - I can relate completely; we haven’t played a DVD in so long that I don’t know if I’d know how to work it. I’d have to play it on my laptop.

@psychmomma - full confession here… I started BB over again from the beginning yesterday. It’s going to be my new ‘what-do-I-do-when-I-work-out’ friend. My time doing cardio just jumped from 30-40 minutes to almost 50-minute sessions now. That first episode has some great humor in it… and I found myself laughing out loud while I was on the stepper (thankfully there weren’t too many people around me!). FNL is going to take a much longer time to get through - so many more episodes.

^^ I was thinking of doing the same thing^^. It really is that good! I think I’ll catch a lot the second time through that I didn’t notice the first time.

psychmomma - if you have the time (like a couple of hours, at least), go through the CC BB last season thread and read some of the posts there, and some of the links. It boggled my mind all the things I missed the first time around!

It took maybe 5 episodes at the most for me to get into Friday Night Lights, and than I power watched the entire series within two weeks. We just got my mom into it and she watched the whole thing from start to finish in under a month, then started over and watched it again. We don’t really like football. I was worried at first it would be too much of a football show. Before long it’s not really about high school football at all.

^^Yep, last time we rewatched it, my mom had moved in with us so she watched too. Every night at midnight as I tried to turn off the tv, she would say, “Just one more??” and give me this hopeful look - as my kids tried to keep from laughing their heads off and they shook their heads in agreement with her.

There’s an episode of the now-defunct comedy “Up All Night” where the couple lies to each other about whether they’ve watched the next Friday Night Lights. Hilarious, because it’s a true hazard!

Teri- I got through about half of it. Loved the song Felina /El Paso merged with clips from the series. So well done. Very fun thread.

Guilty as charged. A week ago, after H went to sleep and I heard him snoring soundly, I snuck back downstairs to watch a Breaking Bad episode (Season 5, Part 2, 2nd episode). When we watched it together two nights later, I never told him I’d already seen it. ;))

We missed the first episode of Broadchurch, so abandoned it. Will wait for Netflix to see it start to finish. But Anna Gunn, ugh. Love David Tennant, but not going to be able to stomach her.

Count me in as another non-fan of Texas/football who loved FNL, much to my surprise. On the other hand, I tried BB and didn’t get into it. I’m planning to give it another go, though. I also wasn’t interested enough in The Sopranos to persist beyond a few episodes, but I loved The Wire.

Right at the moment, I’m binge-watching The Killing, which is great.
