Sharing, Venting, Supporting Class of 2018

Congrata @deamer! That is awesome! Nice to see some good news again :)

Congratulations!!!

@deamer18- Congrats! Was your son accepted into the Acting program? How exciting!!! :-c

OMG @deamer18, congrats on Syracuse!!! That’s so exciting! My daughter gets out of school at 3pm (now!) and waiting for her to check her email for the Syracuse email. OMG the suspense is killing me…we are in Los Angeles, have received nothing from SUNY or Muhlenberg. She was videotaped at LA Unifieds and she felt so great about her SUNY audition, she can’t understand how she didn’t at least make the waitlist. We are assuming it’s a snail mail rejection since she didn’t receive a call or email.

We didn’t get an email from Syracuse today so don’t be surprised if there is nothing. And I think that means you have to wait until next Friday for the next “wave.” ugh! My D auditioned at the first Syracuse audition so it must not go in time order.
Muhlenberg did say to us in an email that decisions start going out on 3/15 and continue through 3/30. We are 45 mins from Muhlenberg and had the app in by Oct. 1 and we got ours on Monday 3/17

Thanks everyone! It is the BFA acting. Such a relief. Nothing from SUNY in the mailbox but right after I checked and was going back up the driveway he called. His dad is out of town and he had us on a conference call saying he had to tell us both something…my heart skipped! Don’t lose hope. I thought we were down for the count. This forum helped me stay positive and also encouraged that if we got in no where it would still all be OK. Now about that sticker price…yikes! Trying not to think about that now!

dreamer18, major congrats! And sending lots of good wishes to all who are still waiting.

@dramamom0804 we didn’t get an email today either, but my D did a walk-in audition at LA Unifieds on 2/09, and we ended up submitting the common app in late, after the general deadline…so perhaps that’s why! sending best wishes to those still waiting. fingerstoescrossed

Congratulations, deamer18!

S just got his expected no from UCLA via email…

If it is true that only those videotaped at auditions have a chance of getting in to Purchase, they really ought to send those rejections immediately. The waiting is painful because as long as we’re waiting, there’s hope. I think the longer the hope stays alive, the harder it is to deal with the rejection.

I’m losing respect for this entire process. I think the Unified audition system is more about making money than it is about finding talent. (And I don’t mean any disrespect to those who have been accepted. I just think they cast a wide net to collect a lot of audition fees.) There. I said it.

I’m sorta with you on that @anonymom000, It’s disappointing that some school theatre depts. raise the application fee or add an additional application fee. This process is expensive enough.

I absolutely get where you are coming from Anonymom000 in that there was a particular school at the NYC Unifieds that was very busy soliciting kids to do a walk-in, promising it would be a quick in and out, and then of course, getting so backed-up with auditions that my kid in particular only managed to do the audition and not the interview because we had to get to the Pace campus.

On the other hand, our state University system is going through a horrible budget process, and faculty and entire programs are being cut, with students left without their major program and people without jobs, etc. I can understand why some schools would see attending Unifieds as beneficial not only as a search for talent, but for raising funds.

Good points everyone. I also thought about all of the money they are making when they take such a small number. Some schools ran the auditions very professionally and fair. I felt that others just wanted a huge number of applicants. But when you consider the cost of flying several people to a location, hotel, meals, salary, room rental it makes sense. Had it not been for unifieds we would have picked only our favorites and gone on campus to audition. It would have eliminated some of the schools that are impossible to get into (for us this would have been the west coast). On the other hand, this has been a great experience in dealing with the rejection that comes from being in this industry. And at least he can’t say “what if” I had auditioned for school x. If I had it to do over we would skip certain schools and add some that were more reachable. And I might be doing it over with my daughter for dance in two years :)

Love how supportive you all are.

Our BU decision is posted. It’s a no for my D. Bummer.
We didn’t get an email yet either; I just went to the BU site and logged in and there it was. :((

@dramamom0804. So sorry. Thanks for letting us know. Dying here but don’t want to wake my son up to check and think he should be the first to know regardless of the decision

So sorry, dramamom0804. So tough to get the “no’s” especially for schools our kiddos love.

I’m not going to tell her until tomorrow after her show is over. She has two shows today…

Also rejected from Boston. This one is tough. Sending good luck vibes to the rest of your kids :)
