Sharing, Venting, Supporting Class of 2018

I was thinking about those big envelopes with “congratulations” on the front and a rejection from the program inside that some people have gotten. I was mulling over the idea of sending a letter to the offending school(s) admin requesting they take a look at their policies and consider modifying them. Perhaps they are not aware of the impact it is having on some of the subsets of students, i.e… acting and MT. Probably some other highly competitive programs as well. I can’t believe anyone would intentionally do that to a kid. What do you guys think?

The Fordham BA is pretty similar in intensity and curriculum to a BFA.

I got offered a $1,000 talent scholarship from Viterbo today! In addition to the $13,000 academic scholarship I got when I was accepted into the university!

Yay!

So far ive been accepted to ucm with a full ride and ucsb i was rejected from ucla on friday night and i honestly cried it had been the reason I had worked my butt off to attain a 4.3,be involved in school and outside of school. But afterwards i felt kinda happy you see i wanted to be a doctor since i was 5until i was fifteen. I made up my mind at that agw that I would strive for ucla, last year i realized i had just gotten comfortable with the idea and explored engineering and environmental law. I joined my schools energy academy and absolutely loved it. I’m still waiting for usc and Dartmouth. Im scared my sat scores are what ruined my chance . But for all you out there dont let rejection letters change your plans or confidence. It really sucks but instead rejoice that you’ve been accepted somewhere. If you really want to succeed you will keep trying everywhere and ultimately your hard work will pay off. Do not compromise your goals for an acceptance. I applied for engineering at every school sure it may have been more likely for me to get accepted to UCLA as a ddifferent major but hey it happens and life goes on.

Nomester, that’s fantastic - congrats on all your scholarships!

This weekend was a real downer. Two big rejections on Saturday, and it was the closing night of my D’s spring musical. Cue tears.
The musical was “Crazy for You,” and I started to cry during “I Got Rhythm.” The line “Who can ask for anything more?” just struck me, and actually knocked me out of my funk. Suddenly I thought it would all be OK. There are many kids who have no idea what they want to do and are just lost and floundering. I couldn’t see the forest through those two rejected trees… My D is healthy, beautiful, smart as a whip, determined, talented and has two acceptances to schools she likes.
Who CAN ask for anything more?

^ Yes !!! =D>

Is anyone still waiting to hear from Fordham?

Yup… we are. :/

Still waiting on Fordham here as well.

We haven’t heard from Fordham either.

We are waiting on Fordham. No word from CMU, SUNY Purchase or Syracuse, but I guess we aren’t hopeful about those at this point. My D applied to 12 schools and was accepted to Emerson’s BA (no scholarship, though) and waitlisted at Elon. We are moving on to plan B. Although the Emerson acceptance provided some validation, the process has been a difficult one. Kudos to BU, who I think has the best audition scheduling and notification system of the bunch.

She has been accepted to two of the CTCL schools and we are making plans to visit in April. Both have been so responsive to her and have offered good financial aid. We don’t know anything about their theatre departments yet, except what is on the websites. I will ask this question on the respective school threads, but if anyone has any experience with theatre, music or dance at either Knox or Cornell College, I would love to hear about it.

Like many of you, I wish I had understood all of this much earlier. We would have spent less time on the big name BFA programs and more on finding non-audition theatre programs that really excite her. By the time we had turned in all the essays, taped the pre-screens and scheduled and started the auditions, we were too emotionally invested in that process to go back and look at good academic fits that might also let her explore other interests. We are lucky that she happened into Knox and Cornell College.

I wanted to thank all of you who have shared so much information. Your posts have been so helpful. I now know so much about this process and my other two kids are only interested in math and science. Their applications will seem so easy!

Syracuse comes in “waves” on Fridays and the first wave was only last week. Don’t lose hope on that one, yet @Sunnyakela !

A good friend of mine, who just finished up a run in well-reviewed run in a Chicago play, went to Knox College. I think they do have a pretty good arts program. Second the post about Syracuse. You’re not out there yet.

D finally got the no from Fordham. She was accepted to their English program at Lincoln Center though. So hopefully all others waiting will finally get word.

The same thing happened to my D. She was accepted as an undecided major. I looked at the information on the Theatre Minor and it said that they could re-audition in the Fall. That seems like a risky path. Does anyone know anything about the Fordham Theatre minor and the re-audition process?

My D finally called Purchase and was confirmed it’s a rejection. She is OK though, just a little disappointed since she was videotaped at her audition and felt so confident about it.

OK I hate to even ask but I need some info on AMDA. Did anyone audition there? Did anyone get accepted/rejected? Can’t find a thread on it and the older ones are all really negative. Just throwing it out there.

A classmate of my D just graduated from there. He seemed to love it, through they do seem to have a lot of negative press.
