How I envy the fairer sex. I am being lobotomized in the meantime.

Best airline for first years? Discuss.

hugs JCX Well at least you have conversation topics with your fellow XY-chrosomed peoples for the next 90 years (:

Airline-wise, assuming you mean SG -> US, I think cheap = good? Just choose a reputed airlines with a decent safety record (i.e. not Aeroflot) and last I took United they had no in-flight entertainment system and American Airlines did but this has probably changed. Also this may just be a new trend in aviation (seeing as I last took SIA 5 years ago) but US airlines SEEM to have wider seats and more legroom. If you’re planning on taking a ulu US flight (like Milwaukee -> La Crosse) check if it’s going to be on a ‘regional’ airline ‘partnering’ with a major airline since many people are suspicious of their pilot skill and safety record (it’s debated).

Also, as far as possible, avoid having to connect in the US, or at least leave as much time between the ETA of the SG - US flight and the domestic flight as possible. Often there is a ridiculously long queue in the immigration queues at the airline hubs and it is massively awkward to have to ask everybody to let you cut ahead of them, or to have to very stressfully deal with the airline people trying to reschedule a missed flight.

Try to choose the flight routes with the newest planes and the best in flight entertainment systems (regardless of airline). Also check out seatguru.com, especially if your airline allows you to pre-select seats ahead of time.

JCX: at least you get to stay out right? life is tough for those (like me) who stay in :(

^ Downgrade la.

But what about luggage allowances? First years got a lot of ****.

imo, take NWA-JAL or United-ANA. Cheap, the japanese carriers are pretty good, and very extensive flights between US cities. This is important if immigration services f- ups, which is very prone to happening on your first processing. I missed my flight from Dulles to Logan, but managed to get on another one within 3 hours, no questions asked. Not sure about baggage allowance, but tbh, just bring less stuff.

hmm. do you guys usu book oneway or roundtrip? i want to book roundtrip, with flexible return date, but i dunno if the tickets from statravel and studentsuniverse (and other discount websites) offer flexi return.

any suggestions as to where to find cheap tickets? i mean really really cheap tickets cause where im going, tickets on SIA can cause over 2k on economy…and everyone knows SIA is a rip off, so i need some suggesstions!

I recommend ZUJI

btw SIA is very cheap right now

SIA is alot cheaper than it used to be… Care to share where you are flying off to? Perhaps we can exchange airline tips or something, haha. I recommend websites like Expedia, Priceline, Zuji and Asiatravel.

Anyway, if someone has suggestions on flights to LA, I’d be more than happy to listen :)

zuji for oneway or twoway? my mum says buy two-way but im afraid with these websites how to chane the return date :(

Check if the airline’s official website has a similar/same price to the travel websites; it’s safer that way (not that Zuji et. al. aren’t reputable).

From experience, Zuji has not failed me yet. In the past 2 years, I’ve flown from SIN to LA, LA to SIN, LA to Iowa, Iowa to LA, LA to BEIJING, BEIJING to LA on Zuji tickets, no problems. Zuji has a office in Singapore too, so you can resolve problems easily if need be. The thing is, I’ve always compared Zuji online tickets to STA, and they are always very similar, and Zuji actually comes out cheaper sometimes.

As for 1-way or 2-way, you can call the Zuji office in Singapore to check or amend I think.

did your consider emirates? i looked at it, and it appeared rather reasonable if not cheaper than the rates that were suggested on Zuji…

for a long trip to the US, SIA is better. the in-flight entertainment is quite unbeatable

cathay too! but the thing is, both have killer air-tickets if i remember correctly, unless you buy it during a promotion of course…
