There is a big difference between a 2200 and a 2400. I would not say that SAT Is don’t count for anything after a certain cut off. From what I’ve observed, I can only say that after 2200, there will be diminishing marginal increases in your chances as your score increases. i.e. increasing from 2200-2300 will help you more than increasing from 2300-2400. Still, when competition is that intense I personally think you should employ every tool at your disposal to increase your chances even minimally.

It is very holistic, as holistic as you can get. Look at it this way. Well-rounded people with great resumes exist at every score range. Isn’t it merely logical to take those with higher scores? It’s still college, by the way, and academics come first.

What are your ECs like? We can help to see if they’re really truly exceptional like you say

You still have a chance as long as you apply. If you get in you’d be a huge exception to the rule, though. You might think you’re exceptional in terms of ECs, but what makes you think you’ll be better than those who get higher SAT scores? You can’t be sure. I wouldn’t apply with those scores, it’s a huge risk to take. Get at least 2300 for your SAT I and aim for 2400 in SAT IIs.

What you think as “exceptional” might not be so “exceptional” in the eyes of Ivy admissions officers. What I think of as “exceptional” in the context of HYPSM would be say 4 Singapore Olympiad golds (Math, Physics, Chem, Informatics) - putting you in the Top 10 (people, not percentiles) of Singaporean JC students in all those 4 subjects…

I personally feel that the “fit” thing is pure BS btw. Most of the time it seems to me like an excuse for one’s inability to adapt. It might hold true for the extreme cases of misfit though. Like I would not want to go to Caltech.

Hahaha lol at the last post. I do not want to post publically so can I please just PM my ECs to those who have asked me please - screwitlah and frankchn. I am sure you guys would be great in assessing since you guys are in an excellent college to begin with.

Okay, sure no problem.

Can 2200+ SAT 1 and 800s in 2 SAT 2s get someone into NUS/NTU?(international btw)

@smartchap: Don’t forget board marks!

Yeah, but,I wanna know if the SAT scores I mentioned would be safe?

Yes they’re safe assuming you took the right SAT IIs (e.g. taking US History and Literature for a Physics applicant is no good). I don’t remember if they want 3 subject tests though.

hi all,
Anyone here knows how to write a gd personal statement essay? Any tips? When should I start drafting? =)
xie xie!

themerlion: definitely try to improve your SAT if you can

Jerrie - I’m starting to write my essay now,… since for me CT2s just ended. I guess drafting early is never bad, though I’m prepared to redo a lot of drafts that are gonna be done.

Hopefully this would just provide a bit of a time frame. =). For how to write an essay, I’m none wiser than you are, but what I did was that I just sat down an afternoon and thought about some of my more personal experiences, and what they meant to me. Then just sit in front of the computer and spam your emotions onto the page. =D

Haha… then after that 1-2 hours or so I’ll just take a look at what I wrote and decide if the topic was a good one.

Hi all, first time posting here haha… My stats aren’t that great… 2120 for SATI … I was thinking of retaking SAT1 in october, and SAT2 in november… I’m pretty confident of getting 800s for my SAT2 becuz by then, A level preparations would make me memorise the whole of my bio and chem and maths stuff haha…

Jerrie, I’m from VJ too haha!

I’m looking at yale & MIT for dream sch, and maybe cornell, and for safeties, I’ll only apply next year since I’m a guy JC2 and have ns…

^ i suggest you take SAT2 in Oct and SAT1 in Dec actually… Also, you don’t need to “memorise the whole of my bio and chem and maths stuff” to get 3x800 for SAT2.

I was thinking becuz by A level period, I shudn’t need to mug so much for SAT II, so november would be good… As for SAT I, if i take in december there would not be time to prepare since my A levels end on december 3…

Hello guys (:
I’m taking the SAT II in october after prelims. i kind of gave up on the SAT I so I turned to the ACT instead. I DON’T KNOW I JUST HOPE I WON’T DIE WITH A CRAP SAT I SCORE :frowning:

If you’re a guy, take your time, like srsly my cousin’s who’s 21 is taking his SAT II in october only and he’s going t college next year (:

^^

wouldnt you think of it as nicer to get over with everything as soon as possible? i mean when your still taking the A levels and everything is still fresh on your mind?

^^
tru dat. for me i’d need time t study for the SAT II so I wouldn’t take it during november. and i’d be taking the SAT I 3 times if i took it again (aka it’d look kind of epic fail on my record), and i’d have t take it on the 7th nov, 2 days before As.

yea its good to do it when the information is fresh in your brain! I think if I take the december paper… I’d be too tired and unmotivated to study!

Thanks for the tips guys! =) there are like so many essays to do. My sch recommends we sign up for good competitive uni, two unis which we think are good but not extremely difficult to get in and one university we feel we stand a very gd chance. =)

Oh another question- If i apply for early decision and financial aid, is it a possibility they will get back to me with a reply that they are accepting me but with NO financial aid?! gasp!
