my friend with o level from sec 4 made it to purdue. i know 2 others who did the same but went there in jc1. my friend actually did well enough to transfer to caltech.

mind tell me what kind of grades they applied with ?? A2-B3/4 for 5/6 subjects good enough ?? i’m pretty sure i can get a good score on my SATs later on, if that helps.

thankss.

yes definitely. u might wanna state a simpler major first on ur app rather than heavyweights such as engineering. u can always change later on. u should apply for some of the top 50 colleges (perhaps the 30-50 range). ofcourse schools like jhu or cornell will be a long shot but if u apply early to one of the 30-50 rank schools, it might be a decent shot. u never know till u apply eh? they always want intl students, especially if ur full pay u stand a chance. my friends also applied with As and fair amt of Bs. even a C on mother tongue.

omg you’re giving me abit of hope here

everybody i asked said i don’t stand a chance at the top 50 even with all As. i’m just afraid for geography coz i might fail that. then i’m left with 5 subjects only. i still have a whole lotta **** to do explaining why i did my O levels twice. take it as a private candidate, and you’ll know :O

yay finally chanced upon a singapore thread. first post woohoo!

Wow. I didn’t know the so many US universities accept O levels. Actually what I’ve heard is that Cornell, despite it being an Ivy, isn’t that ahrd to get into. That true? What I’m surprised is that they accept O levels – and not straight As.

Well, out of the top 50 universities, sure many of them do accept O-level grades - but then in that case, doing your A-levels then NUS might be a better choice.

No, Cornell is not easy to get into, neither is any of the other Ivies - though relatively speaking Cornell is one of the easier Ivies to get into (compared to Harvard, Yale or Princeton). The minimum requirements to be even seriously considered for any of the Ivies are probably 6 or 7 As for A-levels and good SAT scores and CCAs.

^ Agreed. Cornell **IS **hard to get into and **NOT **a safety school. You’d be in for a surprise if you think O levels is considered rigorous enough for an institution like Cornell (or any of the top 30 schools for that matter)

uhh no i wasn’t even considering the top 50 schools. after that. but now that themerlion mentioned it, appears to me that O levels have a higher standing that i thought. anyway, considering the grades that i’m probably going to get, #60-70 should be fair game. my friend said i could always transfer out to a higher-ranked school after a semester if my GPA is good enough. idk, not a bad idea ??

I think most grads from local universities would disagree with you on that point.

Purdue is a very, very safe choice. They seem to accept many Singaporeans with O-levels.

but what are the general grades they apply with ?? for me, straight As are out of the question. A2s-B3/4 and maybe a C is probably what i’ll get.

apply, ull never know. if uve got $$ and ure interested in aviation, try embry-riddle as well. it’s pretty much the world’s best in that field.

yeah, i’ve gotta get a list of schools that accept O level applicants. any ideas where i can start looking ??

Why not write to all the schools you are interested in and ask?

who is applying ed???

My friend wants to know if UC Berkeley specifically states that they will not reserve a place for students who intend to do military service before going to university.

He says he can’t find information on that.

[University of California - Counselors](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/adminfo/transfer/advising/answers/applying.html#6)

You might be able to appeal for a gap year, but don’t count on getting it approved.

Yeah, thanks but my friend isn’t going for transfer admission.

hi guys, i have some questions

-is it possible if i submit the commonapp main form online, but the rest (teacher’s evaluation, final year reports) via mail? (btw, I’m sending by singpost, fedex and ups are damn freakin’ troublesome…)
-how to make a cheque for the application fee?
-what should I put outside the envelope? like name of applicant? contact address? contact no.??

thanks
