is principles of accounts (POA) for GCE-O levels counted as an academic subject ?? a couple of my friends are saying that i can’t use POA as a subject to apply to colleges and quite frankly this has left me in a pickle as i’ve only got 4 others left (got e8 in geography)

No, Cooper Union’s scholarship is to pay for all the TUITION fees only; living expenses not included, that’s why they call it ‘full-tuition scholarship’, not ‘full-ride’. So all the classes/programs/courses are free. They can’t be need-blind or need-aware, because regardless of circumstances, all students get the same amount. So it’s probably classified under ‘merit-scholarships’ or ‘freebies’.

Oh yeah, my bad, I forgot that it’s called a “FULL-TUITION scholarship”. Heh.

To ben_chia: I think as long as the examining authority as reflected on your results slip is ‘CAMBRIDGE’ and not ‘SINGAPORE’, then it is acceptable. 4 O Level passes already qualifies you for the Center for American Education’s Broward University Transfer Program

anw it says cambridge in the right column so i take i can apply with these subjects ? some of the requirements on college websites are rather vague. i wasn’t really aware of a difference between ‘subjects’ and ‘academic subjects’. anw i’ve attached a pic of my 2008 cert and 2009 JAE form A (haven’t gotten back 2009 cert yet). i’ll only be using english from 2008. my friend says colleges shouldn’t be too bothered about the whole 2 certs thing so i’m not going to give it much thought. i’m guessing my 2009 cert should also show cambridge under examing authority ??

ben_chia, i think you are a unique case since you’re applying with your O Levels results. i think you should really go to an agency like USEIC, clear your doubts once and for all and settle your applications asap 'cause I think you’ll be wasting a lot of time trying to do so here. Good luck yeah. :)

I don’t think ben_chia’s unique. Case-in-point -me. The only differences are that whereas he has 4 O-lvl passes, I’ve got only 3, and whereas he doesn’t need financial aid, I do unless jobs are available for me in the location I’m studying in, since my parents aren’t rich enough to pay for my course fees.

I’m currently doing a part-time business finance diploma with Kaplan, so I have lots of free time.

I took my O-levels in 2008 & had 3 O-level passes-Eng B3, Emath. Do you all think I should
1.Taking my O-levels this year
2.Take my A-levels this year
3. Take my SATs this year
?

I’ve gone done to USEIC already, but the time I went down with my dad, the lady at the reception counter told me that no SAT registration booklets were available at the time. What should I do now?

Like QuandVousCroyez, I’m not only looking at top universities or colleges, colleges besides those are also within my consideration. My goal, ultimately, is to get to either Europe or the USA, try to get a job, and then settle there.

I think what RAIRAIRAI means is that ben_chia will receive better help from USEIC.

I just came back from an interview with a Princeton Alumni omg… Was so nervous but he seems nice haha… I think the only screw up was that I said my friends call me “*****y” but he sort of laughed oh wells… And y hasn’t princeton received my december act score yet!! help!!

Register and pay for it online at collegeboard.com. Most of us do it online.

Imho, that is your best choice. Study hard for it as well.

Do most Singaporean students usually get alumni interviews? I applied to five schools in RD (dartmouth, cornell, nyu, umich and carnegie) but havent got a single interview yet. Are interviews only offered to hopefuls? Please help!!!

I find myself wondering what the word in asterisks could be.

Isn’t everybody who applies a hopeful?

@neuronic: Both your cases are unique simply because the majority of us have either completed our As or are about to take. We can try to help both of you but like fiona_ put it, you two can get no better than from the USEIC. That’s your best shot if not you’re just going to be wasting time here. Good luck.

I applied to 3 schools on your list back in my day (Cornell, NYU and Carnegie-Mellon) and wasn’t offered interviews for any of them. Was waitlisted at Cornell and got into the other two.

Rairairai, thanks for the well-wishes. Was from the integrated program but unfortunately flunked out at sec 4 due to failing grades. Then in 2008, at 17, I took the 'O’s as a private candidate, with 3 passes in English, Emath and biochem. I shall take it this year again and try to get at least 5 passes, plus an additional SAT qualification if I have the chance.

frankchn: You make it sound like that was many, many years ago. Haha. :D

Well, after NS, it will feel like it was many many years ago :p.

i got rejected by cornell do you think i still have a shot at the other ivies?
