Singaporean connection

i would say b itchy

also, dartmouth does offer interviews. pyrosphere whats the name of the guy that interviewed you? :D

let it get you down not ilovefhf, one rejection is not an indication of your candidacy at other colleges. do keep in mind that, as my friend who’s a college admissions officer in my school would put it, most of the process these days is very much predicated on the fortunes of the moment.

Wow this thread is dying…

Anyway, for those of you who have accepted places in US colleges, how are you guys flying there?

Anyone care to comment about the quality of service on American airlines like United Airlines and American Airlines?

^

I’m flying Singapore Airlines direct to Newark, then taking AmTrak (train!).

United and AA are notorious for delayed flights and horrid service. I’ve flown domestic on both and they really suck. In addition the departure times are weird, like 6am in the morning (this is what I’ve heard a couple of years ago, so it may or may not be the same now). Cathay, Lufthansa and British Airways are pretty good. You can also fly SQ to JFK via Frankfurt.

Hope this helps!

Singapore Airlines via Tokyo or Hong Kong to San Francisco.

The all-business service? Nice.

If you are going to take American airlines, consider Delta. Also, it depends on where in the US you need to go, for example Nashville is a Delta hub, so getting domestic flights from a Delta gateway to Nashville is much cheaper, and easier.

If you are considering Singapore Airlines, try the Houston gateway. IAH, however, is a Continental hub.

And service is generally okay on these American airlines, as long as you sleep through it. Lol.

Aww man, I have never been able to fall asleep on the plane…

The SIA website doesn’t allow me to book a flight to Chicago, anyone knows which is the quickest and most comfortable way to get there?

Most comfortable? SIA. lol.

If you want a direct flight, take UA (will probably have a stopover in Tokyo or HK). But transferring should not be a huge problem before entering the US.

I agree with CuRRent. If you need to make a stopover, try to make it outside the US. If you transit in the US, they’ll make you take your bags out and check them in again.

@frankchn
Haha I need that sort of comfort & service for an 18-hour flight.

okay, here’s the deal, you don’t want to have a series of roundtrip flights throughout your college years that begin FROM singapore. i.e. Singapore-USA-Singapore. these are usually more expensive than USA-Singapore-USA round trips, especially in the case of SIA.

What I did was to buy a one-way ticket from Singapore to USA for my first ever flight. from then on, when I want to return to Singapore for winter/summer break, I buy round trips from the USA to Singapore. When I eventually have to permanently return to Singapore, I’ll buy a one way flight from USA to Singapore. I realize that I might be a special case because my scholarship covers the first and last flights of my college career, so buying more expensive one-way tix for those flights doesn’t really bother me much.

This way I managed to get SIA roundtrip tickets from JFK to Singapore for only 1100+ USD for my summer break.

Another thing is, those travel aggregator websites, like momondo, mobissimo, tripadvisor, expedia, etc which help you find the cheapest airline usually have more information on round trip flights that begin from the USA than those that begin from outside USA (my guess). So if price really matters to you, look for round trips that begin from the USA?

eightynine, if you want to quickly find flights to chicago, those websites are the way to go. they help you search across so many airlines, you’ll definitely be able to find the flight you need. for flights that begin from singapore, any of those websites plus www.zuji.com.sg might be good.

of course im not the most experienced traveller around, and i might be wrong. just spend some time on those aggregator websites and compare prices between the two kinds of round trips.

before i found out about the $4000 difference in price, i thought comfort and service were important to me as well. but i eventually realized you could just go get a cup of water on your own.

Hey all!

I need help - Should I re-sit my SATs?

Sat I: 2250 (CR 730 MA 800 WR 720)

Most likely will re-sit this one. Hoping for a score of 2300+.

Sat II:
Math II 750 (my senior somehow deleted ALL my GC apps. Go figure.)
Bio (M) 750 –> Self-studied
Lit 730

My tutors have assured me that they can somehow procure a letter which exempts me from Sat II but I’m thinking of retaking Math just in case. Not much difference compared to the H2 syllabus anyway. I won’t be applying to colleges which require 3 Sat II scores.

I’m aiming for UC Berk, Columbia, Penn, Yale. Are these goals too unrealistic?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hey guys, i received my SAT sccores:

CR 620
MA 740
WR 620

Im really disappointed by my results, I really dont know why I scored so badly? I did like 8 practice tests…

Hey mishichan mind telling me how u did so well for CR and WR?

hi there,

are there any singaporeans heading to UIUC this fall?

I didn’t do anything in particular. Tried memorizing the vocab list and gave up. In fact, I think I only got round to completing 3 tests? Just didn’t have the motivation, now have to retake.

Still somewhat “meh” that I only got an 8 for Essay. Considering I’m an Arts student, I should have done better.

If I were you I won’t re-sit anything at that score unless you are confident of getting very close to 2400. There is always the danger of doing worse.

Uhh, you should sit/re-sit your SAT IIs just in case the schools do not recognize such letters.

it doesn’t matter if you do worse

Stanford and Yale request that you send all scores.

From Yale’s website:

i know they’ll see all scores. but honestly, it doesn’t matter. i know for a fact that Princeton took my superscore
