Hi Princeton333 i think ur name is interesting haha. are you planning to apply to your namesake?

anyway, from what i can guess, u belong in bishan jc rite? for my year, the school sent all our results via the online system, and prelim grades were one of those compulsory transcripts. so if its the same policy for this year, and they are all doing it through the same online system, i don’t think you can escape sending your prelim grades.

Haha, yeah, im applying to Princeton, and my username merely just underscores my obsession with this institute. Infact I like your username, maybe you could help me predict my future. :P

Nay, I ain’t from Bishan JC. But not too far away from Bishan. Anyway, our JC doesn’t even have a guidance counsellor, and im getting my MUN Director to help me with my college applications for she seems to know a little bit about the US Universities. Interestingly, it’s pretty much upto me to tell her what to upload and what not to.

So is it okay if I just upload my predicted grades for now ? Later, if any colleges do ask for my prelim results, I can ask my counsellor to send them separately ?

Hi all, I just got back my SAT1 result which was 2130. was just wondering about what chances i have to enter some of the schools im applying to? im thinking of possibly cornell and umich.

Princeton333, what are your stats? Four types of Singaporeans get into Princeton:

1) international olympiad team members or science fair winners (this is by far the largest group among Singaporeans)
2) very accomplished athletes, especially those who’ve represented Singapore internationally
3) perfect/near-perfect SATs with at least above-avg CCAs (a very small group, though)
4) international school people e.g. UWCSEA, SAS

If you’re not in one of those categories, you should have many backup options.

@screwitlah - Err, my credentials are irrelevant to what I was asking. Thanks for your advice, though I never asked whether I’ll get into Princeton or not. :)

If you do want to see my credentials, you can look them up under the threads started by me under my profile.

I moved to Singapore in JC1 itself, so some of the stuff is not exactly Singaprean.

Hi everyone i’m new here and i’d be really grateful for some advice right now!
I’m thinking of applying to an american uni but my predicted grades aren’t stellar. I’m a very average student, not an academic standout or even in my cca? I was in council and my grades are okay-ish.

I was just wondering what kind of schools i should apply to?
I’m retaking SATs in december cause the first time i did it i didn’t study i got like 1980 ew.
Also taking subject tests in Jan. Thing is, my parents don’t see the point of me going overseas unless i can get a scholarship or get into a really really good school (better than local ones), so i’m at a loss as to what to do now.

Another question i have is whether or not it would be advisable to take a gap year instead? so i don’t have to apply with my predicted grades? I’m not a guy so no NS for me (yay!) but then i’d have to make up my mind soon. I have no idea which schools to apply to, leaning towards taking a gap year cause it’ll give me a lot more time to think through which uni or course to take, use better grades to apply and do something meaningful meanwhile!

Any advice would be super appreciated THANK YOU! :)

Hi everyone. I submitted to NYU by Sing Post since last thursday by speed post, but 1 week passed, and they havent emailed me yet. I dont know whether my app reached NYU yet? What should i do?

Tahunganh: regular mail takes 8-10 working days, not sure about speedpost. They will go by the postmark date not by the actual date received, so don’t worry that your application will be “late”. You’re still within the ED deadline. NYU does take some time to go through all their applications, and your app probably arrived along with the big swell of apps just in along with the deadline.

NYU tells you not to contact them, and with the # of applications, I can see why. I’d wait another week and then call to check.

If you sent it by speedpost, is there a way you can check the status of your mail? I sent my transcripts by registered mail and the one headed to NYU never showed up in the USPS system, so sometimes it does happen that mail never reaches its intended target.

Good luck and hope to see you here next year! :P

@gt607rmcf: hey, they got my app already
and i can log in the NetID but when i tried to login, i always got the no roles defined error?
Is the netID important or they sent out the decisions by mail?
thanks
:D

Hi all, I’m new here & very confused - could use some help.

I wanna apply at the UCs (Universities of California) but thing is, I don’t really intend to take ‘A’ levels.

In their website for international admission, the requirements for Freshman applicants are

-“completed their secondary education and have earned a certificate of completion which enables them to be admitted to a university in their home country”
-SAT reasoning test + 2 SAT subject tests

I understand that ‘O’ levels can never enable me to enter a U in Singapore, but I was also told that ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels both can be considered high school diplomas. So should I just go ahead with ‘O’ level cert + SAT tests, or must I take ‘A’ levels?

Also, what is a high school transcript in Singaporean terms? O_O

^ Thanks for your help! Really appreciate it! And you do mean even a good SAT “can’t” help me right?

I went to UC Davis’ international requirements earlier on, it says 5 O level credits + 2 A levels will do… not going to JC and taking 2 subjects privately, should be alright right?

And yes, I meant even a top SAT score can help.

And, I believe the requirement in their website is the bare minimum to get in. I think you should do more subjects than 2 to be a competitive applicant. And get good grades on the o’s!
