Well, I wouldn’t say it’s easy. If I had your score and my application ready for ED, I would certainly have applied nonetheless. (I applied for RD, though my score was higher.) Your worry isn’t justified if you’ve never set foot on their campus before, unless you have a friend there, or something, whom you want to be with.

Also, which faculty are you applying to? 2120 is >700 on average, which does actually see you through the ‘recommended range’ of, say, MIT.

*Scores to send
Varies with the policy of your school more than that of the college you’re applying to. Most colleges expect the bare minimum of O level and either predicted or actual A level grades. (Some schools even don’t require either.) So my answer is yes, if you’d rather not send promo grades, you will be fine.

However, if your school counselor chooses to insist that you send everything, you will have to find some way to backdoor, explain, manipulate.

*Job prospects for a LAC graduate
I have no idea about employment in Singapore. The only thing I have to say is that people at HR departments are paid to know about these things, they are just like your admissions officers in a way, so if you’ve got the credentials, it doesn’t matter that much if the average person is familiar with the name of your school or not.

The other thing is, irregardless of where you go to in the US, opportunities are abound. There are so many big names that you can work/intern with, there are so many diverse communities that you can choose to play a part in, in or out of school, and you’ll learn a lot about how to live, making friends outside your comfort zone, networking. That’s the primary difference. NUS and NTU are about education. US colleges are about schooling.

@pfaocltd: Thank you very much for the reply!

I suppose regarding the scores, if I email the colleges I’m applying to and ask them if O Levels and A Level predicted grades are fine and they say ok, my teacher would have no choice but to agree? (If I can show her the email, lol)

And I agree with your view of how there are more opportunities to do things other than merely studying in the US! Which I suppose is one of the main reasons I wanted to get out of the Sg ed system :)

Thanks again

^ thanks for the reply.

i applied ED to CAS, for a particularly strange major if that’s of any consolation to me.

Hey people, I’m taking my SAT subject tests next Saturday. Will it be necessary to study for the chemistry, maths and biology subject tests if I’ve taken (just completed) the A levels for these subjects at a h2 level? (i.e. will there be anything tested which requires additional studying) Thanks!

There’s some new terms and concepts. You’ll need to get used to the style of the test (e.g. chooosing between E and M for bio, doing true/false and cause/effect questions for chem)

does that mean that i should be buying SAT preparation books?

^— Definitely, I used nothing else besides CollegeBoard’s prep books. I’d say that they are the baseline.

well now i’ve got another problem. got my visa + passport today and saw that they printed my school’s name wrong. missed out a letter (purde instead of purdue). is this going to be a problem ? all the school’s details on the I-20 are correct (got that back without them writing anything on it) and all other information (dob, name, etc) on the visa is correct. how on earth can they print the school’s name on the visa wrong ?

you should probably call up the embassy and tell them abt it. if i were an immigration officer i might suspect a possible forgery

thanks for your reply. what number should i call ? they specifically mentioned that they don’t entertain queries regarding visa matters via phone. and just showing up at the embassy doesn’t seem like a good idea without a prior appointment of some sort.

actually I’m probably overreacting, but it’s probably better to play it safe. the us embassy has an email address - you can find it on their website.

thanks for your help! guess i’ll have to wait until monday for a response. hopefully they don’t make me pay to get another visa printed =/

Hi, i’m from singapore too! really glad to have found this thread. I need help with my current situation and i have no idea at all who to go to for help…

I’m 17 this year, completed my O levels last year, was enrolled into a polytechnic this year but quit before i complete a semester because the course wasn’t what I want. I was hoping I could further my studies in USA. But the problem is I don’t know where I can go with just an O-levels certificate. Can I get into a college there with my O levels cert? Unfortunately my O levels result is not top notch, just average… So i’m very trapped and I really hope someone can help me…

I really don’t like studying in Singapore… I can take an A-levels cert but it’ll take 3 years. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance :)

any Upenn CAS ED’ers for '15 around :)

^I’d fix the problem with the printing.
^You can apply to some schools with only the O levels.

OH, another pro-tip. If possible, keep your SAT books in good condition - and resell them! It was sure very satisfying to sell it off!~ Like, YES! I got $10 for 3 books (the big one, and 2 subject books). Worst case scenario sell it at Bras Basah like I did, but you could probably get more if you sell it to someone you know.

hey guys, this is kinda urgent.

is anybody applying through the UCs’ app system? i’m wondering what to put down as my grades for ‘year 12’–i’ve got 2 sets of grades to key in, but preferably i’d want to put in my prelims and predicted grades, since my common test grades don’t look good. and, based on what i’ve read from people who applied last year, they used predicted grades too. catch is, my school (NJC) doesn’t want to tell me what my predicted grades are.

so, for anybody applying to the UC Berkeley, etc., how have you guys gone about doing it? which J2 grades did you key in?

Okay, I’m going crazy and I don’t know what to do so I’m just gonna post this here.
I submitted my UC app for TRANSFER yesterday, and today I realized that I might have made a serious mistake. The thing is, I go to a CCC, which I understand is a different path for most singaporeans on college confidential. (@ash555: I went there straight after my O’s, and you have that option if you are interested. It’s cheaper and you get to graduate two years earlier as compared to everyone in your year.)

So on the UC app, they asked me to fill in my college transcripts, which i did, but then they never asked me if I had fulfilled the foreign language requirement. and I’m applying to transfer into UC Berkeley’s Haas (fiercely competitive!), and foreign language is a requirement for eligibility! The thing is, I’ve already finished Chinese at O levels, and it’s enough for me to bypass any chinese classes i would have needed to take in college, but I didn’t include it in my application.

Is this going to automatically eliminate me from eligibility for Haas?
I’m freaking out and I am desperately searching to see if there’s anyone else who has experienced this/WHAT SHOULD I DO? I have friends here (from different countries who told me they didn’t declare it too), but the thing is, their first language is NOT english. (so technically, it’s not an error for them, because english becomes their foreign language and their transcripts would have said they’ve completed it and etc) and I don’t know any singaporeans in my school who are transferring to the UC/or especially Haas, so I turned to this thread.
I’ve also emailed the UC app help desk but they have not replied me yet.

I see that many use this to explain their poor results in a particular year due to illness or etc.

But could this section be used to further explain my CCA activites since the space given in the Common App section is not sufficient?

Is this perfectly all right?

You can insert a resume with additional activities / elaborations on the activities. but make it succinct and make sure its really new and significant material. aim for not more than 1 additional page of info.

hi all ervery body…
i’m a foreign student has just posted to serangoon sec school…
the fact that i may not be eligible to enter RJC in the future (thorugh JAE)…
