Singaporean connection

i am asking this because i tried a practice test and i think i make an average of four or five per section…which is quite a lot actually. i hope to take my SAT at the end of this year.

I was from RJC.

Most people practise alone with the official SAT study guides. There are some more specialized books for cramming vocabulary, etc if you want. I don’t think there are really courses for SAT, but there are private tutors. I think that’s really overkill and most people don’t go that far unless they started learning English really late (i.e. foreign students).

hey jcx, do you mind letting us in on what other colleges accepted/deferred/rejected you? thanks lots!

Anyway those heading to mid west school! northwestern purdue indiana etc ! do check your email there a mid west departure briefing

I was accepted by Stanford EA and CMU. Rejected by Cornell and Caltech. Probably should’ve applied for more schools to be safe, but I was okay with CMU.

mmkay, i asked because i’m in a similar situation as you, and would love to go to a school like stanford

thanks for answering!

hey jcx, you got into stanford and rejected by cornell? this is so strange!

Haha yeah. I think sometimes it just comes down to which school is a better fit for you personally. I really wanted Stanford, so I guess it showed in my application.

HI! I was wondering is this a thread for Singaporeans only?

Trelawney: That would be great! I’ll send it to you when I’ve written it (begone, procrastination). Still, I’m a storeman doing admin stuff, it’s hard to find some cool stuff to write about.

@arvedui: wow a storeman with a permanent overseas posting is something i’ve never heard of O_O
anyway i remembered i read somewhere that the admissions officer has to take whatever you put in your application as true and they rarely, if ever, check. so you may want to be slightly creative.

@stephwong: more or less i guess!

Anyone here heading to UBC or UofT next year fall?

hey, just to ask, can i apply EA to multiple schools and still apply ED to a school? is there a limit to how many schools i can apply EA for?

@intro
Well these always your certificate of service to prove\disprove certain points

@spas you can check brightspark there a few

@steph so I assume you aint singaporean?

bouncy: nah, if you didn’t realise, most of the brightsparks peeps head to either uk, the states or australia. Since college confidential is an education forum for those heading to north america, i’m inclined to believe that more singaporeans heading to canada will be here instead.

@ben267

You are not supposed to. Applying ED means that you are not applying early to any other schools.

There is no limit to the number of EAs, but some schools only offer restricted EA/single-choice EA instead of the normal EA.

Restricted/single-choice EA is basically the same as ED in that you cannot apply early to other schools. The difference is that with SCEA, you are not obligated to attend the school even if your application is successful.

Introverted: Heh, there’s only one storeman per overseas RSAF detachment at most. Arizona, Texas, France, Australia for certain.

Yes, I shall most certainly write about my life and death struggles with stacks of boxes and reams of red tape. On a more serious note, though there’s nothing very interesting about the job, I’m having many adventures here though. Like cooking my own meals (gasp).

Does applying ED or EA actually improve your chances of getting in?

Statistically yea , but then again early application process usually have more motivated and better stats student

@bouncy: the certificate of service isn’t that detailed. for me it’s gonna say PLATOON medic when all i do is land covers.

@arvedui: twist it to make it sound like it improved you i guess? i.e learned about logistical management. made you a more organized person. or some nonsense.

p.s i just read that admissions officers check facebook sometimes o.o
