Singaporean connection

Yeah, searching the northwestern forum will probably yield more results, though I think you should have done it already. Hm… You could browse the University department website and look at their professors’ resumes.

Hi. Let’s have a Singapore CCers meetup. Who would go, say aye! Everyone is welcome. Now let’s think of what to do… Lol.

I’m going overseas on friday, so =(

not been CCing too much recently! but I’m already in India! :frowning:
Hi FIONA! (:

haha i don’t think i will be going ><
will be weird facing such a big group of college-obsessed overachievers

Hi is anyone awake? :(

awake… and bored… very bored… it’s still 11 in here! -____-

Hi everyone, I guess this is the best place to ask.

Does anyone have direct experience with dealing with Common App? Couple of questions:

 1. It’s perfectly fine if we ask each of the teachers we’re asking for a recommendation for just a standard letter in lieu of them filling out each of the many forms individually, yeah?
 2. I’m not exactly sure who my ‘counselor’ and the person who needs to fill out my Secondary School Report is.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Well, if you waive your right to view the recommendation (which is recommeded :]), you wouldn’t be able to do (1), as I assume you will be sealing the envelopes yourself. In my school, the envelope is sealed by the school stamp and then signed by the teacher.

In RJC, I think that the counselor is usually your class teacher. In some schools, like mine, it’s the USA College Application counselor. I suppose you could get a HOD to write it for you.

How exactly do I ‘waive my right to view the recommendation’? The way it’s working right now I was under the impression that all I needed to do was to obtain letters from the two teachers I’m asking and then send it in as part of the application.

at no time in the application process will you ever get to see the rec itself.

Dgtmartins - If you are using the Commonapp on paper, go take a look at the Commonapp form. There’s a place for you to waive your right to see it, and sign.

hey fellow singaporeans, for those who are applying for class of 2013, could ur post ur stats and results for ED/EA and RD in the next couple of months? would like to see what unis feel are eligible candidates in a singaporean context.

thanks!

bump bump
go go singaporeans!

EA accepted into Yale. Not Singaporean but i studied in Singapore for the past 4 years
Anyway, there are two Singaporeans accepted EA to Yale too. No idea who they are yet though.

CONGRATS!!! omg i woke up this day exactly 1 year ago to be rejected by Yale. okay, I didn’t exactly wake up - I couldn’t sleep the whole night before the 6 am decision time. but yeah, I am still quite jealous.

^But you have Princeton so nothing to lose sleep over anyway =p. In fact other people would be quite jealous, heh.

^Yes indeed. Haha
@screwitlah: yeah i couldnt really get much sleep either. Went to sleep at 1 plus, woke up at 3. Then woke up again at 6:30 and still nothing. Woke up at 7:45 and checked the website, wholly prepared for bad news and the bulldog popped out! The music on the other hand scared the crap out of me cos it was too loud and jumpy cos my internet sucks.

Will be waiting for H and P and probably D.Withdrawing the rest. Sigh. Waste my money.

Good job on your admission into Yale!

Hey! This place seems to be dying out! :frowning:
Anyways, congrats to all those who got in EA/ED- whatever!
To those who got deferred- just keep your fingers crossed! (:
And to all those who get rejected- don’t be disheartened- you’ll probably end up somewhere better!!
I had a question- well, my school rank’s 156ish out of 700-odd students. And I’m finally applying to MIT, CalTech, Stanford, Princeton, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley and UC Los Angeles. I think the rest of my application is pretty decent- let’s not get into that now and my MIT interviewer (who did not know of my pathetic rank!) told me she thought I really fitted in, had great ECs (showed initiative…) and had a chance better than the others she had interviewed. (Maybe she was just trying to make me feel good). But will I get downright rejected with a school-rank like that? At all the schools? Was I dumb to apply to all the top-schools with such a rank? (I just did cuz I don’t mind going to NUS/NTU and wanted to try for the biggies!) It seems it’s only Valedictorians and people in the top 3 to 5 per cent who make it… (At least for the Americans… if you look at the Admission Statistics!) So- should I just think that my chances are totally NIL with that sort of rank? Second question- I studied in India for 16 years, am an Indian citizen and had my interview in India- but was in Singapore for JC- so am I an Indian or Singaporean applicant? And does it matter?
