Is it just me, or does anyone else NEED a fan on to sleep?
It’s no necessarily I need one because i’m hot (although I like the air circulation a fan provides…) but the sound…I just can’t sleep unless I can hear it…silence freaks me out.
Anyone else do this? I’ve been thinking I may have to stop use it once i’m in college and have to consider my roommate…

I have to sleep with the tv on very low because I need noise, but fans drive me nuts. My boyfriend is the exact opposite though. He NEEDS to have a fan on when he sleeps, but can’t stand having the tv on.

Haha I agree with your boyfriend…
I’ve tried the TV route before, and I jump every time I go into consciousness and hear a voice coming out of the TV, kind of freaks me out

Uuggh I have tinnitus, perhaps genetic or perhaps it’s due to listening to loud music or stress… But whatever the cause is, I hear ringing in my ear when things get REAL quiet at night when I’m in my bed so I need noise as well to sleep.

But as for a fan, I just sleep with the windows open. At this height (I live in an apartment), I don’t think any insects or people can get in through the window :)

The sound of an air conditioner sounds much more serene than a fan. But I will nots leep directly under it because it may lead to stiff necks in the morning or colds.

^ Doesn’t this happen to everyone? Or does that mean I didn’t know about this my entire life? lol This happens to me a lot, even if there is noise sometimes.

there’s a korean myth that sleeping with a fan on will make you die. my parents believe this. i showed them the mythbusters special on it. they still don’t believe it. but yeah, during summertime i have to have the fan on only because it’s hot.

ipods are helpful for sounds ;)

I have to sleep with the ceiling fan, summer, fall, winter and spring, the white noise puts me to sleep.

Several people have died because they left fans on because it drastically lowers body temperature. I know it sounds silly, but it’s true.

^ Maybe you have different sources than me, but from the fan death incidents I’ve heard of, a majority, if not all, of the victims suffered from respiratory or heart diseases which exacerbated (SAT word <3) the situation moreso than it would have for an average person.

I need a fan on because it’s so warm down here. I don’t like the whhhhhirrrr noise fans make (although I can listen to the air handler in my room just fine, whatever), so I actually got this type of fan that… ‘glides’ I suppose, so it doesn’t make much noise. Anyway, without a fan I stay up all night. It’s just TOO HOT.

Except… when I wake up in the morning, I’m freezing. Gah. -.-

@yoursky haha yeah, you get that from listening to loud music for a long time or perhaps genetics? I interviewed a few soldiers from Iraq and Vietnam and they still have ringing in their ears from being exposed to frequent gunfire noise.

Anyways… Yeah the korean fan death myth hahahaha. My parents believe in that as well, it’s crazy annoying -_-… But I’ve heard that the man who died and started this “myth” was like 70 years old and what really happened was that the cold air kept on blowing on him, reducing his temperature below normal and basically he died because his body couldn’t keep up.

I need a fan to sleep; I can’t stand silence while trying to sleep, plus it can get pretty hot, especially in the summer.

i usually like to sleep with nothing going on in the background. but during the summer i dont mind having the fan on.

Sounds like a huge waste of electricity. I only do it on those 85 degree summer nights.

Ha ha. Whoever I have for a roommate in college is going to hate me.

I keep both my fans running and my TV on all night. I can’t sleep without white noise and some light. Complete darkness gets on my nerves.

Or they’ll force you to change.

I live in the basement, so it’s cool year-round. I can sleep with the washer, drier, and dehumidifier running, but I don’t NEED them running to sleep.

Only when it’s hot. Otherwise I just get cold. Idk I can go to sleep anywhere, anytime, under any conditions XD

There are worse ways to waste electricity

i sleep with a fan on…and i need a comforter. in all seasons. not even joking. i just need the noise though with the fan, not the cooling
