I’m currently a rising sophomore in Smith College from Beijing and I just got my acceptance as a transfer sophomore from NYU Gallatin school of individual studies. I want to study economics and film studies. We don’t have film studies major here in Smith but I’ve met really great professors. There are numours benefits of both schools. For example if I stay in Smith, I could do one year abroad in LSE for econ or I could also do one semester of film studeis in Tisch and one semester in Oxford for econ.In Gallatin, there are many great opportunities for internship and I can actually combine my own interests instead of following a traditional way of pursuing a major. So I’m debating between these two schools. Should go or should I stay???

My daughter went to Smith and had a fantastic time there. You have already been there so you know what life is like there and the quality of education available. Would you consider going to graduate school for film studies? Perhaps you could then enjoy Smith and NYU.

Thank you for replying. Yes definitely! Columbia would be my dream graduate school for both econ and film studies. I did enjoy Smith. However I feel that film studies in Smith not really strong even though we have great professor (Alex Keller!). The courses are limited and in a way that only concentrates on theory and history. I feel that in Galatin, there’s more opportunity to learn the skills through internships and to gain social experience maybe?

I really don’t know…It’s so tough.
