@guidedbywire and that young mans picture was plastered all over the news as a suspect. He was treated like crap by the police, and they refuse to apologize. He and his brother, have now received death threats.
@partyof5 Not only was he incorrectly identified as a suspect, they have yet to take down the tweet.
Are there two shooters are one? I watched way too much TV coverage last night. CNN showed a shooting that some guy had shot from his hotel room. It showed a person on the street near a building with pillars. That person is shown shooting a police officer execution style. But the shooting started, I thought, from the parking garage and the shooter killed was killed in the parking garage. I also thought a person who witnessed the shooting at street level (not the one who filmed it) said the shooter was a ‘she’. Or maybe this was mistaken. Could the sniper from the parking garage have moved down to street level, shot the officer and then retreated back up to the parking garage?
^^^ I’m also confused about that.
Moderator Note: This is not about gun control. As stated in some other recent threads, there are already plenty of threads about that directly, and more to the point it is only peripherally related to this topic. All posts that mention gun control, the NRA, etc. have been and will be deleted unless they somehow miraculously mention such things while not being about gun control.
Dallas News is reporting that police are saying anonymously that this was a conspiracy with multiple people involved in planning, logistics, etc.
When is the next news conference?
62 and #63 There were two known, one (a woman) was arrested yesterday and the other killed in the garage.
My nephew, a young man in his early 30’s, is a sergeant in a major metro area, working in a high crime area full of drugs and guns, trying to keep it safe for the law-abiding residents. His comment to me was, “My colleagues and I did not sign up to be killed.” He has a very difficult job. I’m sure he has had to draw his gun numerous times in the past 10+ years, but he’s never pulled the trigger, to my knowledge. He’s stopped home invasions and every other sort of crime possible. One of the saddest things he’s said to me is that when he tries to talk to young children on the street, most of the time their parents pull them away and tell them not to talk to him. Very sad that it has gotten to the point where our kids, who we used to teach to trust the police, are now being told to stay clear of the police.
Who was it that wished for a Kinder, Gentler Nation?
@TatinG “In my view, responsible leaders need to condemn retaliation and violence and instead express faith in the judicial system and support for the vast majority of cops who never know if they are going to come home. The Dalllas chief said as much when he said that they feel little support.”
Unfortunately, all to often minorities know the judicial system is anything but fair. Cops have gotten off even after copious video evidence of brutality.
That said, the vast majority of people have come out against the murder of 5 Dallas police officers. Are their idiots online, of course, but for every pro-cop killer you find, I can find one who thinks African Americans should be hunted. It’s the internet, people say awful things all the time.
Here in LA, rappers The Game and Snoop Dogg organized a peaceful march to police headquarters where they ended up meeting with the LA Mayor and LAPD chief. It was heartening to see that today.
The sad thing is as a kid I used to trust police officers, but now, I’m wary. As a Latina, I don’t have as much to worry about as a Latino or a black man, but still. The issue as I see it, is that the good LEOs don’t stand up to the bad ones, instead they close ranks. This does not help to rebuild the trust that has been lost between the public and those who are supposed to protect us.
@momof3sons unfortunately all of us arent taught to trust the police, especially those of color. I dont have ONE friend that doesnt have a story about being harassed by a cop male or female. So when you grow up and you hear stories from you parents and grandparents about how they were mistreated, then you experience the same thing, you keep cops at a distance. And to be clear, Ive seen some officers of color that were completely over the top, and some White officers who were as nice as can be.
Cops have gotten off and killers have gotten off. The judicial system isn’t perfect. But there is no perfect system where human beings are involved. Still the law and the system have evolved to as fair as they can be. The best in the world. If you can point to a better judicial system than ours, I’d love to read about it.
Just because ours is good doesn’t mean that we can’t do better.
@TatinG: No, the justice system is nowhere near as “fair as they can be.” This is especially true as to the prosecution of law enforcement, who get their own special rules in the investigation and then are prosecuted by their otherwise-allies. It’s hard to trust police when you know they can kill you and get away with it. That’s still no reason to shoot them.

Another ‘revenge’ shooting. An innocent woman is killed.
Name a fairer judicial system than ours, if you can.
Of course we can always do better, but this rush to judgment by so many and then revenge killings do not help matters at all.
@partyof5 I hear what you are saying and my nephew says that this has changed in the 10+ years he’s been on the force. He says that kids used to talk to him. I understand why, but it’s still sad.
What “rush to judgment”? Did you not watch the Minnesota video?
The part I saw of the MN video only showed what happened after the shooting. Did the cop have a body camera that showed more?
@TatinG What is it that makes it the best in the world to you? I’m honestly interested in why you think that. As the wife, mother, aunt and sister-in-law of lawyers, I couldn’t say that, without equivocation about Canada’s judicial system, which is likely better than that in the U.S. So, what is it that you think is the best about the U.S. system?
