Snipers shoot 11 Police officers during Dallas protest

“The comments on Twitter from BLM sympathizers is just vile. Their leaders and national leaders need to speak out to tamp down this hate against innocent officers.”

The comment from former Rep Joe Walsh that emilybee linked to is equally vile, TatinG. Who should apologize for that, other than Joe Walsh himself? Are there leaders and national leaders who need to speak out and tamp down this hate against Obama?

“I come at this still remembering how when the Rodney King verdict came out, the mayor of LA, did not call for calm. The riots killed 60 some people and whole neighborhoods burned. I thought at the time that the mayor expressing his outrage at the verdict was inflammatory.”

Thank goodness, then, that if you read any transcript of anything Obama has said, he hasn’t been inflammatory, at all. Not that I would have expected him to be, of course. One of the many things I admire about him is his calm, cool temperament even in light of these horrific things.

In my view, responsible leaders need to condemn retaliation and violence and instead express faith in the judicial system and support for the vast majority of cops who never know if they are going to come home. The Dalllas chief said as much when he said that they feel little support.

"The comments on Twitter from BLM sympathizers is just vile. "

You do know that the vast majority of BLM sympathizers don’t wish any ill to policemen; they just want greater awareness of the disparity so that they don’t have to worry about their sons being shot?

That’s actually what most politicians effectively end up doing whether by issuing tepid noncommittal statements or jumping on “support the LEOs bandwagon” with the tone implying “right or wrong”.

And whenever that happens, the marginalized communities who have long experienced excesses, racism, and brutality at the hands of LEOs will regard such statements as not only being tone-deaf to their concerns, but an effective slap in the face ignoring of their concerns as unimportant.

This is further underscored from them seen too many trials where the LEO perpetrators were acquitted due to biased juries whether it’s the enforced all-White juries in the past or change of venues to bring about the same effective result such as moving the trial of the LEOs who violently assaulted Rodney King to nearly all-White and pro-cop Simi Valley.

By most accounts, it had been a peaceful demonstration, protesters and police alike ensuring good flow and no bad incidents. Some police and protesters even posed for photos together, looking calm and relaxed.

Have not seen it. Has he made a televised statement?

There you go, TatinG.

Apologies for buzzfeed as a source, but huh, looks here, it looks like the leaders of the BLM movement condemned the violence in Dallas. Whaddya know? Hope this helps, TatinG.

@albert69 all lives matter is not racist, but it dismisses the point of black lives matter. What happened in Dallas was very sad. The news has reported the shooter said he was not part of the protest. He obviously was a disturbed individual. It doesnt change the fact that too many black lives are taken out by bad cops, and its not just men, remember Sandra Bland, Rekia Boyd, I would suggest you look at those stories as well.

Black lives matters, doesnt take away from other lives, but right now the problem is with seemingly innocent encounters with the police, and we are dead at the end.

The news has reported that he had some type of AR-15 weapon , yet not a peep from the NRA. They are trying to make this about a BLM against cop issue, and no one will touch the fact that once again a disturbed individual was able to get his hands on ammunition and weaponry that should not be available for the average citizen.

If you google Micah X Johnson, you will see photos of him. He is apparently ex military.

Reference to person of interest who was stated to be a suspect by the DPD tweet and harshly interrogated. It also reported that his attorneys were given the run around, threatened with arrest, and even had one officer going for his holstered gun merely because they were trying to find where their clients were being held:

As shocking and sickening as the shooting in Dallas is – it’s also not that surprising. There’s only so much people can take before they snap. How many African American observers have said in the past week that we’re at a breaking point? And as I wrote earlier, my huge fear is that the AA community will pay a heavy price for the action of what could be one fatally angry man.

albert: A lot of the questions you are asking are explored in Ta-Nehisi Coate’s book, Between the World and Me. It is well worth your while. imho. He has also written a series of essays for The Atlantic, which also address the issues you raise. It isn’t worthwhile to just read headlines about his writings. You really need to actually read him to understand his meaning. fwiw.

My own son, maybe your age, gave the book to me to read,

One of the deceased officers, Michael Krol, is originally from a town about 10 minutes from me. He worked for my county’s correctional department. We have mutual friends on Facebook :frowning:

DPD Chief Brown speaking at prayer service says it is apparent that this attack was well planned and well thought out by “these suspects” but then he says we won’t let “this person” steal our democracy.

You know, I used to question the terminology Black Lives Matter vs All Lives Matter, but after the last few days I’ve had a change of heart.

For a bit of background on the police chief, his mentally ill son was killed in s standoff with police, years ago

I believe one of the results of this is that LESS good people are going to want to go into law enforcement. I wouldn’t want one of my sons to be a police officer unless it was in a small town in the middle of no where.
