I also liked the short with Laraine Newman. So introspective.
As did I. Mixing the OG with the newer Pete Davidson, whose mother was 5 (!!) when SNL premiered.
I was able to watch some complete performances from the Friday night show on Paramount’s Youtube page - cher, backstreet boys, nivana, - they are not all there but there are a bunch
I was wondering why so many of the original cast had such successful careers but Laraine had not, so I looked up her IMDb. Boy was I wrong. She has had a very busy career. A lot was voice work, but not all.
And she produced Hannah Einbinder who is a hilarious comic herself and star of Hacks.
I have about 20 minutes left to watch of the 50 Years of Music show. Lots of neat stories. I had forgotten about the fiasco when the punk band Fear played, due to the urging of Belushi. The slam dancing that ensued was scary to watch. Belushi apparently brought in a bunch of their fans unbeknownst to the show runners.
That crowd was pretty much every show my S goes to … but in his 30’s, he tends to stay on the sidelines!
I had not seen that before. The Rage Against the Machine story was also interesting. So many good musical moments.
There are two SNL musical shows. One is a retrospective, the other is current - it’s called the Homecoming concert. Both are well worth watching.
Friday’s concert is called SNL50 The Homecoming Concert.
The retrospective documentary, which aired in January, is called Ladies and Gentlemen 50 Years of SNL Music
I agree the Prince version of Nothing Compares 2 U is great. I just prefer the Sinead O’Connor version more. Miley and Brittany did a good job with the somg. I just preferred Sinead’s interpretation
Same with ‘Hurt.’ I like the Nine Inch Nails version but like the Johnny Cash cover more. We’re all going to have differences of opinion where music is concerned.
I really did like SNL 50.
Agreed. I was waiting for Miley to make some sort of social commentary at the end ripping up a photo like Sinead did when she performed on SNL.
I had no idea Fear played on SNL. Ahh, the memories of my misspent youth in the City.
Ha, DH thought he’d found the anniversary show. About halfway through, he said, “Boy, they sure are focusing on music a lot…” and I pointed out that this was the MUSIC show. Now we need to watch the other show.
Our D came over last night and insisted we watch the SNL show. Lots of enjoyable stuff, a few misses.
Will Ferrell in the Scared Straight skit: that man is absolutely fearless. Same can be said of Kate McKinnon.
I felt really bad watching Paul Simon. He just didn’t sound like the man I remember. That makes sense, since he’s 83 years old. Paul McCartney’s voice also has really aged, but he still has high energy that is impressive.
Paul Simon is actually doing a small tour with his last album music.
I love how both Pauls really continue to play their instruments so well…and I think both really command the stage.
I loved both Paul Simon and Paul McCartney. I don’t expect perfection at their ages. Very poignant performances. I cried.
Have always loved Scared Straight and Close Encounter!
Paul Simon actually has significant hearing loss. Paul Simon Boosts Hearing Loss Awareness. He did very well, taking that into consideration. And Sabrina Carpenter did a fabulous job of harmonizing with him wherever he was.
I saw Paul Simon in concert a couple of years ago, and he couldn’t even sing some of his songs any longer. It was kind of sad.
