Snow....again

Thumper and Jym, I feel for you. A bit more snowfall than expected here in the center of the universe. But at least it’s powder, so it’s dry and relatively easy to shovel. Hoping the additional snowflakes we are expected in metro NYC this weekend doesn’t abort Lake Jr.'s spring break flight home. Last year he spent the night at the airport.

12:45 pm and it’s been snowing since I got up at 6:15 am – and not lightly, either. It’s coming down like gangbusters. When is it going to stop!!??

I’m not leaving my house today due to the storm. Thankfully I don’t have young ones to entertain – just DH and myself. But geez, wiping off the kitchen counter and ironing is getting old.

With a plane sliding off the runway and through a fence at LaGuardia, they have cancelled all incoming and outgoing flights there until at least 7 pm. What a mess.

Haha, VH! Words with Friends is the answer.

OMG – wow. Yes, what a mess. I guess being home and ironing isn’t the worst thing in the world.

My flights are happening…for, today, but I’m happy not to have to deal with the delays…even short ones.

VH…where is the snow line? Still not a flake of snow in this part of CT!

Went to my client’s home (moonlighting as home care aide) this morning long enough to make sure they had a meal, a bath and meds, and plans for meals for the rest of the day, When I left after an hour and a half there were two and a half inches of snow on my windshield.

My husband has been told that anyone leaving the factory early will be terminated. Of course, management is not there to hand out the pay checks today (not that the bank is open to deposit them…).

Forecasters got this one wrong. We were supposed to get 3-6" but I shoveled 4" before leaving for work and just shoveled another 8, and it’s still coming down. My husband can park behind me when I get home; it’s supposed to be in the 40’s this weekend so I am not shoveling both sides of the driveway.

So sorry to hear about all of your travel woes. Last week, I succumbed to the crabcakes-- before my flight out of Baltimore. They are delicious and the seafood here in the midwest is expensive and not so good. Maybe there’s some good novels to pickup at the airport bookstore? Just an idea…

I’m flying through Chicago tomorrow. No crabcakes, and it will be too early for pizza.

thumper, I don’t know where the snow line is but we (SW coastal CT) are projected to get 4 to 6 inches. From what I can see, we’ve got at least that now, and it’s still snowing pretty hard.

ETA: Danbury is projected to get only 1 to 3 inches, and in West Hartford, it’s only flurries.

Our library is usually open until 9:00 pm every weekday but today it’s closing at 5:00 pm. DH is still scheduled to work his retail job tonight, so – go figure.

I’m confused about where everyone is. What’s happening in DC?

My BWI flight (which I rescheduled for tomorrow) is actually on time for departure now. BWI supposedly is getting a lot less snow than originally predicted. I think VA took the hit.

KKmama, that’s outrageous. Management has no credibility if they themselves are not present (because of the weather) to attend to their own responsibilities.

And it changes again. The BWI to CLE flight today is now delayed an hour. Good. Makes me glad I switched.

I agree about management. They should be there too!

@thumper1: I hear Wicker Park at the Chicago Airport has pretty good sushi. It says they open at 6am! Think of it like a bagels and lox equivalent?

Seems like most of this discussion is based from DC and Baltimore which is being hit by a massive snow storm. We got snow here in the lower midwest yesterday through the morning. HS was delayed. I looked ahead and feel happy to see it will be in the 40s and 50s next week!

Not one snowflake in southern Maine.

I’m flying through Midway, not O’Hare…plus I only have 55 minutes to get from the end of one terminal to the end of another for my connection.

It just stopped snowing here in Manhattan about 10 minutes ago. Snowflakes had been falling since early morning. Didn’t stop in time to prevent the sliding Jet at LaGuardia Airport.

It is really coming down now outside DC. I closed our office at 12:30. We had to bring a manager back in to help with an urgent banking issue, but we sat there waiting and left at 1. I came in today and was the last to leave. Since I’m home now I’m cooking dinner early - 40 cloves of garlic chicken from Ina Garten -smells so good I could eat the raw chicken.

We Marylanders PANIC at snow. I had one lady - and literally wasn’t doing more than raining and 34 degrees who was going to a hotel instead of driving home.

My son flies in tomorrow for spring break - I hope his flight is on schedule.

Finally stopped snowing here about 20 minutes ago.

Eyemamom, I tried to make 40 Cloves Garlic chicken once and it did not work out for me. You’ll have better luck if you do not eat it raw. LOL.
