They just offered me a courtesy free shipping on my account to buy the item I forgot, but I have a concern that the outdoor temp will not be kind to these if they sit on my front doorstep all day.
Well, of the orders I placed, the stuff guaranteed to be shipped within 1-2 business days, is arriving today. The one that was listed as being shipped in 2-5 business days will arrive tomorrow. I would have preferred that they shipped Fri instead of Monday, but then again, one has something that can melt, so maybe it was better in the warehouse for the weekend.
Is there perishable stuff that might show up on your door at any time? (any time of the day AND any day in a 3 day window)?
I have the tracking set to let me know when it will arrive. Some potential melting of a coating is only issue in our sweltering heat, but each item is individually wrapped and in a plastic tub, and that will be in the bubble wrap things in a purple box. Our front porch is covered so it shouldn’t be in direct sun. The item that had a 2-5 shipping criteria was a bedding item.
I received a set of 6 corelle dinner plates at no charge to make up for something else that was out of stock. They are nice but somehow square dinner plates look large than round plates. I have gotten 3 shipments so far and each boxed was nicely packed. For example I ordered a tub of chocolate almond biscotti and it was cushioned in these air pillows/bubble wrap so that I didn’t get a tub of broken biscotti. The plates were packed in the same manner. I definitely got more than I paid for so that was nice. If I see something I like I will likely order again. I wish there was more product line for some of the things I searched for. I would recommend anyone with a trial membership to give it a try.
No melted biscotti?? This is good to hear!
Amazon is having a month of free “Fresh” delivery in my area so I may try that. I haven’t had time to browse the offerings and the prices yet. I wouldn’t do it on a regular basis, though, as I am close to the grocery and at this point my time isn’t so valuable that it is worth a mark up to avoid going. It would come in handy from time to time, though.
@saintfan Here we have two grocery store chains that do home delivery. (Giant and Safeway) They mail us coupons for delivery service all the time. For this reason I wouldn’t have use for Amazon’s service. T
I got as a gift once a weekly delivery of fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables (loved that!). You could modify what they were sending, and I had them deliver on a day I was usually home, but it came with little icepaks in there wrapped in that old brown wax paper they used to use in butcher shops. It was fun, but I dont think I’d sign up for it personally, so dont know if I’d look into the amazon food delivery thing.
As an aside, my items that arrived yesterday from jet were fine, and I am awaiting one more ting today. They did one thing that I appreciated- One item I had was a scented soap. They put the other item in the box in a ziplok bag so it didn’t pick up the scent. Nice!! (wonder why they didnt jsut put the soap instead, in the bag, but its fine!(

Doesn’t look like it’s free. Also mixed reviews.
Amazon fresh and other grocery delivery services are good if you are single and don’t need much. Safeway requires you to be present to accept delivery; Amazon will rent some sort of temp-control containers. Kid used Safeway delivery, and many times they would mess up her order, so she would have to sit and wait for them to show up again. They did offer free delivery time slots - apparently, those would be the times when someone in her apartment complex already requested delivery.
I live in a condo community where there are many young people in their 20’s and 30’s. Many high rise buildings are coming up in the area due to the areas job market. The Safeway/Giant food delivery trucks can be seen several times a day. It also helps that Safeway is walking distance from our community. We will also be having a Wegman’s across the street in a few months so I think because of location we have lots of conveniences. From May to Oct there are many farmers markets held throughout the county for those interested in locally grown items. It is nice to have so many options as this only increases competition.
Jet is competing with Amazon, Walmart, and Costco. It will be interesting to see how they do once customers free trial memberships expire. Will they be good enough that customers are willing to pay for online shopping membership.
Only time will tell.
They’re going to have to overcome a lot of ennui. Why should I start to search on Jet for the things I buy from Amazon if it’s easy for me to reorder from Amazon?
Update:
Fedex changed the delivery date of my last jet package from today to tomorrow. Maybe if I’d paid for shipping I’ be annoyed, as I ordered it last Friday afternoon, but its nothing I am in a hurry for. But, I then ordered something small from Amazon on Sunday. Its not a big item. Some versions of it were listed as “add on” items, meaning I couldn’t buy it alone. Others, with Prime, were 1/3 more expensive. Those shipped (funfilled) by amazon were also more expensive. I ordered from an outside vendor, that offered free shipping, but they are using USPS with a large window of delivery Today through next Tues, (and it didnt come today). And when I put in the tracking # into the USPS site, its tells me it cannot locate the item. Lovely.
@jym626 I think it really just depends where the package is coming from. I wish FedEx would update their location more often. The plates from Jet had a packing label from Walmart. The original plate I ordered came from Kmart. Both posted on the Jet site. If an item on the website says - Two Day Delivery- then I would hope to get it on time.
Did anyone notice there is no place to put reviews?
Understood. Am saying that fedex has had it listed as expected delivery today. I had it set to notify me of any “exceptions” and deliveries. Didn’t receive the exception notice. I just went to check to see if it was out for delivery, and noticed it is now going to be delivered tomorrow.
Article in today’s New York Times about start ups that give discounts. Mentions Jet.com.
Interesting article.
I got the tshirt, socks and stickers, but no fake money. I did get 5 giftcards for free memeberships
My family in Minnesota uses grocery home delivery in the winter because it’s just easier. Between the kids and the ice and snow, getting it delivered is worth the cost to them. If I didn’t have Mr. R doing the grocery shopping, I’d try home delivery in a heartbeat. I despise grocery shopping.
I’ve had several things in my jet cart for a few days but haven’t ordered. What happens is that I see a product I might like and then I go to Amazon to check reviews (which jet doesn’t have… yet?). Then when I get to Amazon I just automatically shop there because it’s habit.
So does Jet use FedEx v.s. UPS?
I have had my last 3 deliveries from Amazon from Fed Ex–and the boxes were bashed. a book looked like a tire had run over it and a few pages were bent. A long curtain rod had to be sent back as it was bent and the replacement was OK but the box open and trashed.
I have never had a thing arrive like this from UPS or USPS.
Not sure why Amazon has started to used Fed EX and hope this is not their new norm.
So what shipping service does Jet use?
