The items I’ve gotten from Jet are via Fedex. The Amazon thing I am getting from a vendor (not Prime) is USPS.
The 3 boxes I received from Jet were from FEDEX and they were delivered just fine. One was even marked fragile and the items came in perfect condition.
Sigh. Neither Amazon nor Jet have control over what the local delivery dudes do. Our previous Fedex guy was notorious for finding a puddle on my doorstep and strategically placing my packages in there.
Amazon always asks me for packaging review, especially when it is a newer vendor. Vendors are supposed to pack things in such a way that stuff should survive a typical FedEx assault.
This company does not have their act together. I ordered two items a day after launch. A few days later I received an e-mail that one was out of stock (and that was the item I wanted, just added the second for a further discount). They said they expect a new supplier soon “so keep checking back”. I asked if they can just alert me when it’s in stock, but they replied that they don’t have a mechanism for that yet.
The second item had nothing in the description about sizing (a pair of work out gloves), so I assumed it was “one size fits all”. Came in as size XXL, was swimming on my hands. Naturally, I returned it (which was not easy!). Tracking shows that they received it 10 ten days ago, but have yet to apply the credit. I’ve always been happy with Amazon and will never make the mistake of ordering from jet.com again.
Thanks for letting us know! I have decided to wait and see…
I can appreciate that, right out of the box, they’re not as good as Amazon is now. And I can wait a year or two for them to improve. But in the meantime it begs the question, Why should we switch?
Good point, @VeryHappy. The one item I wanted was an obscure electronic item that I had on my Amazon wish list for quite some time, but was always out of stock. When I saw jet had it listed, I immediately signed up and ordered it, mistakenly thinking they would not list an item they couldn’t get.
I have been hoping they would fix their many glitches but so far have not ordered again from them. Shipping often takes 2-5 days and especially if I were paying for shipping (I won’t) that would not be ok. The stuff I ordered came in 2 separate packages, as one was direct fro the vendor and one was maybe from their warehouse? Was ok but one was a little slow.
I wanted to order a birthday gift for my s’s GF. The pickin’s in the item category I wanted were kinda slim, and the description of the color of one was inconsistent with the name. I also inquired about the possibility of splitting an order, as I wanted some things sent to my home and the cost for those items didn’t meet the $35 minimum. They said they couldn’t do that, but did credit my account the cost of shipping, which was nice. I ended up buying the gift from Amazon (and the email confirmation goes to my Son so he will see what I sent to his GF) because of the combined dissatisfaction with the selection and the unclear delivery window. That said, I pay nothing for my 1 year membership with jet, which beats Amazon’s $99 fee, so I would like them to succeed. And I resent Amazon’s “add-on” thing. If I am going to pay a membership fee, I want to buy what I want to buy. The minimum purchase thing is less bothersome with Jet, and all I am paying is shipping and I can get the item. Amazon’s add on doesn’t even let you buy the item unless you spend more on other stuff.
I tried ordering something last weekend (it was just a touch cheaper than Amazon so I thought I’d give it a try). The payment page kept giving me an error. I don’t even remember what the error was but I don’t like entering my credit card multiple times (I did enter it twice just in case I made an error) so I gave up and went back to Amazon.
Could it have been user error? Sure. Wouldn’t be the first time. But given the numerous other glitches I’m not so sure anymore.
Hmm…
Didnt have any problem when I entered cr card info. But fyi- their telephone customer service reps are available 24/7.
I ordered something this week and it was 1/2 the price of Amazon (with a promo code), free shipping and came in about 3 days. I’m happy. I got the free 6 month membership, we’ll see if I keep it.
Edited to add, actually less than half. I paid $20 and Amazon had it for $60. (portable water pic thing for my D to take to college).
Wow thats great! Love to hear happy endings (not the “get your mind out of the gutter” kind…)
@jym626: The “add-on” thing doesn’t bother me. I understand that it’s not worth their while to pay for shipping for a $2.00 or $3.00 item, and I’m more than willing to wait until I have a bigger item to ship with it.
Since my initial order I haven’t ordered again. Amazon has a lot more selection. I wish the item descriptions on the Jet site were as detailed as Amazon. The other issue I have is when I search for something I will see the item as out of stock and I see that quite a bit. I have been getting email promotions and postcards in the mail offering another additional 6 months. Some of the items I am getting cheaper at BB & Beyond with their 20% off coupons and then using manufacturer coupons. I will check the Jet site once a week but at this time there isn’t really anything that I need.

Not to mention how easily one works around this if THAT determined to get the 5 bucks item shipped for free a la Prime. There are so many items to complete an order that are always in need. Household items, batteries, and other stuff. People who use to play fast and loose by cheating on students’ accounts might want to cheat some more. Add a pre-order item, get your cheap order shipped, and cancel the pre-order. Voilà… freeloader heaven.
Nope- Often need only that ONE item and need it THEN. If I pay $99 for a membership that offered free shipping, I don’t want them changing the rules on me. Thats smarmy. And one item recently that I looked at was more than a few dollars (it was more like $9) but was still an “add on” item. Thats unfair. I didn’t need $25 worth of stuff, and not interested in wasting $ on stuff I don’t want/need. Just wanted that item and I couldn’t buy it. I might even consider paying for S&H but its not an option. Bad business model. So I didn’t buy the item and refuse to be pushed into buying more junk I don’t want/need. Their loss.
Coupon code SAVELOTS was providing $10 off $35 order on jet.com
Actually lots of codes for $10 off and a free 1 year membership http://www.retailmenot.com/view/jet.com?c=7108561
As a member of Jet I received an email for their new referral program For every referral to jet both you and your friends will get $15 off your purchase. The code to enter when placing the order is 6FFC77F This code is good to Sept 1st.

That’s just a bunch of bull, and you know it. The business model makes perfect sense and has worked for people who can live with basic rules and are not cheating a la (ab)using students’ account as a parent.
I just renewed my Amazon and would have paid double as they are FINALLY cracking down on cheats. As far as a bad business model, that beloved Jet has all the making of turning into another groupon. So far it sucks big time in terms of selection and design.
To each his or her own.
xig,
With all due respect, the only thing that’s a bunch of bull is the constant drudging up of an old argument that is tiresome and really unnecessary. Amazon allows sharing of accounts. They do. And if they didn’t want multiple delivery addresses and multiple credit cards on any one account, they wouldn’t allow it. But they do. And its not just to send a gift to someone. So get off that already. Please.
And the free (previously one year, now 6 mo) student account they offered is no different than the free membership trial that jet offers, except jet doesn’t limit it to students. They give a taste, and then get the members to sign up for the expensive membership. Its basic marketing. This is not rocket science. Its ironic that Amazon was so open on its website with everything except how to get the automatic prime membership renewal stopped. That you had to call them for. Blowing the BS whistle on that one. Maybe they finally changed that. Who knows. But when I wanted to do so, I had to call. As an aside not that it matters plenty, PLENTY of people, including several members our family, have paid the $&(&^)(#$&^^ membership fees (yes, we do NOT share an account, though as you know prime allows several people on one account) for years and years and years after the brief free trial. So for the love of peet, let that go already. Please. Just stop.
If I want to buy one $9 item, AND I’ve paid for a membership, I do not want to be forced into buying a bunch of junk I dont need at that time just to get the stupid item that should have been permitted in the first place. I dont even care if I have to pay shipping (even though I’ve got a membership with free prime shipping). I just wanted the stupid item. Nope. Not allowed. Stupid. So bought elsewhere and am annoyed with amazon’s attempt to load my shopping cart.
Sadly, jet has a long way to go to get its share of the marketplace. Its got a lot of bugs and may not make it. But I love healthy competition and would love to see amazon get some.
