In North Texas trees are budding and the grass on the golf course behind our house is greening up quite nicely. Temps are in the 60s and 70s. It’s going to be very warm the next few days, 15 degrees above normal. So weird to look at our weather forecast juxtaposed with the nor’easter news on TV.
@momofthreeboys , if I saw you in your yellow skirt (even with teen temperatures) and appropriate other clothing (not a tank top!) I would probably smile at you and say, “good for you for wearing that yellow today and looking bright and cheery!”
White is no longer off limits any time of the year, but the weight of material should obviously be appropriate to the temperatures. You’d look strange in white cotton shorts in cold temperatures, but heavy wool or denim pants are fine round.
We hit 78 - 80 several days last week. Last night I received a freeze warning from the nat’l weather service’s local office. My closet is a jumbled mess. The heavier and darker winter clothes were packed away last week. Dh retrieved a bin for me this morning so I could pull out a couple of sweaters. This morning I watched our yard guys, who were all bundled up, blow billowing yellow clouds of pollen across the yard.
Hmmm, three pages and nobody has mentioned the old “No white shoes before Easter” dictate. Maybe because white shoes (not counting athletic wear) aren’t in style?
Here in Texas I don’t own much warm clothing in “spring” colors.
I follow a few fashion blogs. One is called So Heather and she wears a lot of white stilettos and boots. They look great with her outfits, but I don’t see anyone else wearing them. I do wish they would come back in style, as I always liked them.
I think that blogger and another one I read are from Texas, so that would make sense. No one has been wearing them in the Midwest, but we are not the fashion capital of the world. Hopefully, we will catch up soon.
I’ve always heard that rule as “no white shoes before Memorial Day”. Personally, I’m fine with that because apart from sandals, I think white shoes are pretty ugly and usually look dirty.
This blogger wears lots of white. Scroll down to different days. I think they look good with her jeans, although I never thought of doing that. I don’t wear high stilletos though.
The way things are going here my white shoes would get lost in the snow My hair lady and I were lamenting today how we both had on turtlenecks and sweaters. I hate long sleeves; I hate sweaters. I’m over it!!
I still feel chilly in the low to mid 50’s but I do have some colorful lightweight cashmere sweaters and long sleeve shirts.
It’s always the in between weather that gets me. I know what to wear when I’m cold and when I’m hot, but when it’s 40 when I go out and gets up to the 60s during the day it can become challenging. It’s not even the tops for me so much as the bottoms. When it’s really cold and I wear a suit or dress I do wear tights, in the summer I don’t, but that in between when I’m all pale and pasty and dry - not a good look.
Then there is the overly aggressive air conditioning in the summer when it’s 90 out but feels like 60 inside.
All I know is I hit a wall yesterday and I just have to put a halt to wearing boots everyday. I’m DONE with boots! Even “fashion” ones! I looked at my couple pairs of work boots yesterday and thought “I need a break from these!” - as someone else I know said, “It feels like it’s January 74th - come on spring!”
Today I still have my footless tights on but I’m wearing a shoe, not a boot. I vow to be creative with my closet the next week or two until spring really does arrive to at least be wearing something a little fresher and lighter. I just can’t do the winter stuff anymore.
And now I won’t be wearing something light and springy for easter because I’ll freeze to death. Just a warning, it will go from 40’s/50’s to 90s in probably the span of a week and then I’ll be complaining about that too.
