So who's watching the Oscars tonight?

I think retro a new garment refers to an older style, while vintage is an actual dress from an earlier period.

As in: “Why buy that new retro dress, when your mom has so many fabulous vintage '80s outfits in her closet.”

Because have you seen how skinny people were in the 1950s & 60’s?
I don’t want to wear a corset!

Actually I thought the telecast was pretty disappointing. I didn’t care for Seth McFarlane. I thought opening with that boob song was in poor taste as were many of this jokes.Actually I thought the entire 20 minutes with the two dance routines were not necessary. I didn’t think it was necessary to have the Chicago number with Catherine Zeta-Jones or Jennifer Hudson singing her song from Dreamgirls to “introduce” Les Miserables. I didn’t understand why several nominees for best song were announced and then had Norah Jones perform. I did like Shirley Bassey and Adele, bookending the Bond songs but was disappointed in the Bond tribute. There was much press about this and I thought all the previous Bonds were going to be on hand.
As for the dresses, I thought that Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain were stunning but Charlize Theron was outstanding in that dress. I don’t know what Anne Hathaway who is usually a best dressed nominee, was thinking. The dress was ill-fitting. I thought Olivia Spencer looked outstanding. Jane Fonda’ s dress was retro, but she looked great!! I liked Jennifer Garner who is also usually a best-dressed, her dress was fun and she did not really need a “statement” dress as did Jennifer Lawrence. I liked Jennifer Aniston, but maybe she could have done something better with her hair. I also liked Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry. I only caught the last ten minutes of Fashion Police last night…which was a shame as I also look forward to it.

Well the reason that the Chicago number was featured…the producers of the Academy Awards program were the producers of the …Chicago! Talk about being self indulgent.

I think I could die happy if I just got to spend one night in Jessica Chastain’s dress–and with her figure, of course. (And George Clooney would be on my arm–but I digress.) Absolutely stunning and tailored to perfection. At the other end of the spectrum, Melissa McCarthy, who has no clue how to dress for her body type and should fire her hairdressser stat. She may as well have wrapped herself in a shower curtain. What a mess! On another subject, I welcome the news that Ben Affleck shaved off his beard at an after-party.

I thought Seth McFarlane did fine and found the telecast to be a welcome mindless respite from exhausting sequester coverage. Only real negative was the terrible sound mixing on Adele’s song–the orchestra drowned her out. So astonishing that professionals can screw up that badly on such an important night, and when they had rehearsed the previous day.

I follow Mia farrow on twitter & I thought it was interesting that she said she could tell who had used cocaine. I didn’t watch the telecast, but I don’t remember noticing anything like that before.
Then again I wouldn’t have thought to look for it either.

Watching the Chicago reunion, I couldn’t help but think that 10 years really ages a person.

Wow! I hope she didn’t name names.

The only thing that bore repeating from that horrid Chicago movie was Mr. Cellophane.

I liked Chicago

I enjoyed Adele, and the Broadway numbers…thought Jennifer Hudson’s performance was incredible.

oddly, I found the ridiculous Boob song a little funny, in a Family guy, juvenile kind of way. watched it with my 16 yr old son, who also laughed. if I think about it I find it mildly offensive, and he could have added men to make it less sexist.

seemed like Seth MacFarlane might have been told to take it down a notch because after the first few jokes, esp Rianna/Chris Brown he seemed tamer, and seemed kind of disengaged, which made him very unfunny.

love Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, they seem like such a real couple, and so into their children. Glad Argo won.

saw Silver Linings playbook night before Oscars,so appreciated Jennifer Lawrence’s acting, but to me it still didn’t compare to others. seemed not that much of a stretch in terms of the role, as she seems pretty assertive, straightforward…but happy for her

I read that Anne Hathaway was supposed to wear a different dress (Valentino?) but switched at the last minute when she heard that someone else (Amanda Siefreid?) was going to wear one that was very similar.

I wasn’t sure that Jennifer Lawrence deserved this Oscar either, but she SHOULD have won it when she was nominated last time for “Winter’s Bone.” She was amazing in that movie - looking back on that performance, it’s hard to believe she’s the same actress that did “Silver Linings Playbook.”

Oh, I keep forgetting to mention that I loved that the Oscars were physically handled, and the presenters and winners were ushered around, by the winners of the Oscar Experience College Search. Much cooler than using models!

I agree about Jennifer Lawrence. I thought she was good in Silver Lining but i didn’t think it was that challenging a role. Still think Emmanuelle Riva should have won.

Jennifer Lawrence does seem like a very pulled together lady, though. I’m happy for her success.
