<p>I’m a psychologist, not a STEM person. I laugh through the whole show. I went to Antioch, not CalTech.</p>
<p>I’m a STEM person who just didn’t do well with pure STEM academics 
(I found a happy medium between my desire to help people hands on and my love of science). </p>
<p>I’m also a sci fi nerd. It’s very rare that I don’t get a reference. I inherited my love of all things sci fi from my dad. My mom is about as far from liking sci fi as you can get and still LOVES BBT. (I think it’s because she’s lived with my dad and me long enough that she feels a bit like Penny…)</p>
<p>It is excellent for what it is, and I will continue watching until its cancelled. But it’s not in my top 10 shows. I could see how someone could dislike it (but I don’t see how someone could be offended by it).</p>

<p>Funny, my boys like Top Gun too, but they have no interest in watching it with us. Apparently we spoil it by mocking the characters and screaming with laughter at the lines that are supposed to be “cool” (we were both military pilots and know far too many fighter pilots to respect the movie).</p>
<p>Though it is kind of fun when someone does something rather trivial…to say with a straight face, “Gutsiest move I ever saw.” Nowadays most people would just be confused.</p>
<p>I don’t get any of the comic book, super hero, D&D, Star Trek, video game references at all. It’s not necessary to know any of those things to enjoy the show. At its core the show is about friendship. I agree with Desk Potato’s assessment, and agree that the only character that bugs me is Amy, but I find Mayim Biailik annoying in general. </p>
<p>And I think it’s meant to be VERY clear that Penny’s EQ is as much of an asset as the boys’ IQs</p>
<p>LOVE it! H and I watch the reruns several times. Finally a show about people like us- science minded, socially inept, smart etc at that stage in life. We have noticed the maturing of the characters as the show evolves. Not stuck in stage one. My only regret is that someday the show will come to its logical end. </p>
<p>Are the haters not science oriented? Welcome to my world, folks. Exaggerated of course- this IS a TV comedy. So refreshing to have a show entirely revolving around smart science types. Makes me feel old, however, when I realize they represent the 20 somethings my son is with their stage in life.</p>
<p>I have to force myself to turn it off before the next re-run starts because then I WILL watch it. There are worse things I could be doing.</p>
<p>DH and I have loved this show from the very beginning. I think it’s brilliantly written and consistently sweet and hilarious at the same time.</p>
<p>When my DD (who is working on her PhD in neuroscience) started dating her current serious (4th year med student) boyfriend, he remarked that before he met her, the only neuroscientist he’d even known was Amy Farah Fowler. :)</p>
<p>Lasma, bialek in real life dressed just like Amy. She was actually on what not to wear for it. Her character on the show dresses like pre make over her.</p>

<p>I think the show has nothing to do with science. It’s a show about friendship, that just happens to be among scientists with stereotypically nerdy interests such as video games and comic books.</p>
<p>Why? Shelton’s Texas evangelical is “spot on” and a scream. His “me-maw” devotion is touching and priceless. </p>
<p>Penny’s dad’s plea to Leonard to not give up on a romantic relationship with her was hysterical whether or not Leonard is a scientist.</p>
<p>Amy’s crush/lust with Penny cracks me up.</p>
<p>Howard’s mother is funny old-school humor.</p>
<p>How sweet when they all held hands as they watched Howard go into space - that episode was on last night (middle of the night rerun) and it made me misty-eyed all over again. </p>
<p>Laurie Metcalf as Sheldon’s mother is a riot as is Christine Bransky as Leonard’s. I like the mothers much more than the fathers we’ve seen.</p>

It was filmed on location using both faculty and students as the actors. Written by Jorge Cham, the guy behind PhD Comics. The humor in this movie will ring truer than BBT for pretty much anyone that’s spent any time in grad school.</p>
<p>(The scene where she bumps into her friend from HS is soul-crushingly true. Pretty much why I don’t go on facebook ever.)</p>

<p>Janeway is excellent, but no one is better than Picard.</p>
<p>My dad and I used to get in to Janeway/Picard arguments when I was younger (good-natured, of course). In time, I’ve grown to see his side but I’ll always have a special soft-spot for a female Captain.</p>
<p>Kate Mulgrew is wonderful, but Patrick Stewart has such charisma</p>
<p>I actually did not know her real name. Now I have a double soft spot for her…</p>
