Last night’s episode about tenure was very funny. A great script direction.

"I go back and forth on this boyfriend/girlfriend thing, but those moments when you worship me really keep you in the running.

Honestly, if I must endure a long and tedious evening, Id rather be with you on date night.

Don’t just stand there. Take your breasts out.

Sounds like lines the cruel Joffrey barks at Sansa in Game of Thrones? Sansa, for the past seasons, was betrothed to Joffrey and used to say lines like I am loyal to King Joffrey, my one true love despite Joffreys abuse.

Nah, these are lines from BBTs last episode care of Sheldon to his lovesick gf Amy.

Another funny line goes:
Sheldon: Are you implying my girlfriend doesn’t have any sexuality to exploit?
Raj: Yes
Sheldon: Okay, because that was not clear.

Im supposed to find all these funny? When did being abusive to ones doting SO become acceptable as comedy? Oh yeah, this is probably dark comedy instead. Impressionable young girls out there, please whatever Sheldon says to Amy is not funny and you should severe such relationships instead of enduring obnoxious statements.

He’s not being abusive to her. They both are just completely socially awkward. If you YouTube the scene where they first met and the second time they hung out you’d see this.

It’s like any show… If people don’t like it, they shouldn’t watch it.

BusDriver, resistance is futile.

Out of the few episodes I’ve watched, I didn’t like it either. So I stopped watching it. It seemed too canned, some of the jokes too obvious. Not my cup of tea.

Funny, how their social awkwardness tilts in favor of Amy being a doormat and Sheldon being a large, heavy boot with spiked soles. I think the doormat needs to grow a bear trap so the next time the boot stomps on her, she has some funny retort back instead of just grinning and bearing the grind. :p

Yeah. I’ve tried to like it but am not really a fan. Not so fun watching a lot of stereotypes being recycled over and over again. Did watch what I could for free on youtube and elsewhere before deciding its not all I had hoped. :(

As someone in the engineering field, I find this show fairly hilarious. It’s a good show to watch when I need brainless entertainment. I can laugh at my own quirks. ;)

As others have said, this is a show about friendship and relationships. What makes it enjoyable for many people is the growth and development of the characters and their friendships with one another. I do not think that would be easy to appreciate in an episode or two.

There are quite a number of other shows that were very popular and left me kind of cold–Friends comes to mind–and I think it is possible that the same thing was afoot there–I only watched an episode or two here and there, didn’t find the characters likeable, and gave up. I imagine if I’d started at the beginning, weathered the awkward exposition of the first season, stuck with it as it hit its stride and the characters grew in dimension and complexity, I’d have understood why it was such a hit.

(On the other hand, shows also do “jump the shark.” For example, Modern Family is, I think outstaying its welcome. It was delightful to watch those characters grow and adjust to one another and connect in new ways. Now it’s just slapstick. I’ll also note that the most recent episodes of Big Bang Theory haven’t been my favorites. I hope it’s not circling the drain, too.)

Amy has put Sheldon in the dog house before.

Obviously the show is all about stereotypes but I can say I know plenty of real life people like those in the show.

I do think it was better before Bernadette and Amy came on board. But it had to move somewhere.

Move where? Down the drain and over a shark? :D

In the first year of the show, it drew an average of 8.3 million viewers per episode. In this season (2012-13), it is averaging 18.8 million viewers per episode. The only year that did not have an increase in viewers was 2010.

Krlilies - Sheldon treats everyone that way.

I absolutely disagree that the show is worse since Amy and Bernadette are around!!! I find them hilarious and that they add a whole new angle…

Also, this last episode of Modern Family was hilariously funny. I have no idea what that’s about!

But, to each his or her own, certainly!

Every character on the show except Sheldon’s mother is a doormat to Sheldon because he can’t be reasoned with in social matters. And now you have a strike for saying that. Two more and you’ll have to take his class.

I think Bernadette’s taming of Howard was a good turn for the show. I agree, I don’t think the Amy character has added much after her first few episodes which were very funny, probably has subtracted.

I do likethat she tamed Howard. And I think it’s hilarious when she speaks like his mother.

I guess it’s just the Amy character. Though she’s perfect for Sheldon. I just think they did an about face on her because she flat out said romantic love is crazy and that she doesn’t believe, which is what convinced Sheldon to hang out with her in the first place. Now she’s ga ga over someone that doesn’t know how too be ga ga back. Though I do think he’s getting better with her.

I liked when he grabbed her hand during the launch.

07Dad, our household is part of those viewers since the beginning. I confess BBT is better than watching The Bachelor, Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad, Honey Boo Boo, Jersey Shore. Plus, I didn’t realize it’s possible for highly intelligent men with careers still cannot afford their own apartment. Not all nerds become dot.com millionaires.

Annoyingdad, why would I get a strike for that? I think I guess after all these seasons Sheldon has gotten on my nerves because now he is doing it to, as I said, a doting SO and Amy just grins like a dumb groupie.

All 1/2 hour, even 1 hr shows need to use stereotypes to get the point across. There is no time for full character development. You do see depth to these characters over the course of time, the snapshots emphasize a point. I find the characters consistent, variable behaviors just like real people. I don’t find Sheldon having all of the power, his friends are gracious enough to recognize his limitations and allow him his quirks. He would have no roommate or friends and there would be no show without this. I recognize bits in myself and others- that makes the show for viewers, seeing quirks recognized and magnified. Fantasy on TV, not reality.

wis75, I don’t think you see my point and I’m not going to reemphasize the troubling depiction of certain characters in the show. We just have to agree to disagree.

The Sheldon character walks a fine line between “sympathetic but clueless socially inept nerd” and “egotistical jerk bordering on mean if not nasty”, and sometimes the writers go too far to the jerk side IMO.

The last episode was an example of this.

Amy has her moments, though, I don’t think it is completely one-sided.
