Glad it worked out well for your son and thanks for letting us know.

Glad it will all work out for you and your son.

Thanks for the update.

How did the officer know to come to your home that night?

Happy things seem to be sorting themselves out for you - as the mom of 3 boys, I know sometimes things just happen (and yes, sometimes they cause things to happen). Someone once told me our job is to keep them alive through the college years and hope they learn enough to carry on from there. Sounds like you are handling this well and hope it ends as smoothly as planned.

The people across from them saw it or something. MomtoCoolegekids, Police Probably searched for a similar vehicle. It was in plain sight in our driveway 3 doors down, complete with busted door facing the street (angled driveway). It’s not like he was hiding it. THAT could have been an issue if he hid it and they found out. Also, not a mark was on the pole. It scraped along and dug into the door.

So glad things ended up the way they did, njfootballmom. Thanks for letting us know and hope it’s as smooth and calm from this point forward as it can be.

He got lucky.

Glad things are working out. Thanks for letting us know.

Very glad to hear that it went so well.

“failure to report,”

He was supposed to report the marks on the neighbor’s lawn? Isn’t there some kind of dollar value that needs to be exceeded for that req’t?

People don’t have to report damage to their own vehicles, so…

mom2collegekids, the kid was drunk and driving. He’s lucky to get off with a Failure to Report. No need to look a a gift horse in the mouth here.

And I hope Mom takes away the keys for a while. Speaking as someone who sometimes uses the roads, I’d just as soon not share them with drunk drivers.

^^
very true.

I was just wondering because what if he hadn’t been drunk? It would still seem like an odd violation when the damage was some tire ruts in a lawn. (again, we don’t have to report damage to our own vehicles.)

Thanks for coming and updating njfootballmom. Completely understand your pause and am happy no one was hurt and seemingly all is working out. I hope your son and you the best. Life has bumps, and thankfully this was not any worse.

Glad it worked out and thanks for coming back with the ending…

NJfootballmom, thanks for the follow up for which you had no obligation to give. I’m glad it’s resolved, and no judgement form me. I live in a glass house in this sort of thing.

One of mine had a huge legal issue due to a girlfriend that he refused to involve. At huge expense it went to court, and because the judge decided there was insufficient evidence, he was let loose. Not worth the stress and all, but he refused to budge, and in his case, from some snooping I did, yes, the girl was the culprit and she was not going to step up A “Bonfire of Vanities” of sorts. Yes, it happens.

I agree everyone can do without criticism :)

I hope many parents and children have learned some lessons through this situation and resolution.

As far as I am concerned, we all live in glass houses!

I do not mind some punishment here, so the tickets are not out of line. He is paying quite a bit for the repair as the door needs replacement and the whole side needs some work due to the scrapes ( which got deepest at the door). He is feeling the pain and will fix the neighbors lawn.

The amount in the statute is $500. The lawn isn’t that much even if you hired a pro. I think they might count your own car, which is stupid, unless you are using insurance, then it might make sense.

Thanks for some support. I sometimes make the mistake of coming here just to get things off my chest. Some of us whose kids make mistakes are neither morons nor bad parents.

Well, njfootballmom, I seem to be on record as the only person who is willing to believe your S’s story about the mysterious girl. Tell him from me that if he was making it up I am severely disappointed in him. ;)

“The amount in the statute is $500. The lawn isn’t that much even if you hired a pro. I think they might count your own car, which is stupid, unless you are using insurance, then it might make sense.”

That would be strange that they count your own car unless your state has some odd law.

njfootballmom- I hear you. My screen name shows that I understand how kids/young adults can act. I’ve been through enough “incidents” to NOT believe the story about the girl, but it sounds like everything is going to work out. I’ve been through a lot worse, and, frankly, I was involved in worse as a teenager!
