Southern Methodist University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admission

Wow! S25 got into Cox and BBA Scholars, absolutely shocked and pleased.

The Cox acceptance letter will mention either BBA Scholars or Business Direct. BBA Scholars will be offered an additional Cox scholarship (5-7.5k/yr). BBA Scholars are the top 100 incoming Cox students.

Yes, this is what S25’s is

DD was just accepted Cox Direct. Very happy. Visited campus over the summer.

Son waitlisted. Have visited several times. Completed AP Stats last year, currently doing AP micro/macro economics and AP Cal AB - so have the pre-requisites covered. Part time job, leadership position at school. 1440 SAT. Bummed. Congrats to those who got in.

I’m sorry, that doesn’t make sense.

My son is currently a junior in Cox. He says it is surprisingly hard to get into the program. He knows a lot of very smart economics majors who were denied.

Sorry to hear that. If it’s of any consolation, my D25 - full IB diploma, 1460 SAT (single sitting), great ECs, research projects, thoughtful supplemental essays, has also been waitlisted.
Quite honestly it was shocking, guess admissions are much more competitive than we thought.
On the plus side, one less great college to worry about when making enrollment decision; we’re going to decline the waitlist spot.
Congratulations to all those who got in. Cox is a great school and super hard to get into (can say that for sure now… lol)

so just trying to get this straight. your son was accepted but was waitlisted for COX? so he is still in but has to choose an alternate major? Am I correct in saying that?

just curios what that means for all of us who were deferred EA

Yes. Accepted to SMU, but not the Cox School of Business.

Hopefully you still have a chance in the RD round.

Same boat. Moving on. Goodbye, Alma Mater— you’d have been lucky to get him.

The alum issue does not impact merit aid. Plenty of alum’s kids have SMU scholarships. Being invited to do the hunt is a big deal though. That’s a phenomenal scholarship and program.

Did your son hear back from admissions about the additional opportunity for merit aid?

I am pretty surprised that your kid was waitlisted based on that SAT score. What is his/her GPA if you don’t mind me asking? Don’t lose hope…I hear many get off the waitlist. Maybe yield protection?

Was recently accepted to the Cox direct program (no BBA scholar unfortunately but hopefully I’ll at least get to the interview stage with presidential)
I had a 3.98/4.5 GPA with a 1520 (770M, 750R&W) superscore (1500 single sitting w/750M 750 R&W).

Just wondering for the parents that already have kids at SMU, how accurate is the financial aid calculator?

The merit offer was off (10k compared to the 25k/year I actually got), but how close is the gifted aid section to the actual offer that was received?

50 of BBA scholars are offered scholarships.

We ended up with receiving 10% more ( scholarship & aid) than what the Net-Price-Calculator suggested.

Would Anyone have Insight as to How SMU is with processing Aid for admitted students who submitted Fafsa/CSS? What is best/usual case scenario? Thanks to all (in advance) for the insight!
