Southern Methodist University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admission

A Saturday seems odd. I’m still not convinced the person answering the phone wasn’t just told by admissions staff to tell anyone who calls that decisions will be out “by” December 21.

That’s what I’m thinking.

D25 just got an email from SMU.
Decisions to be expected tomorrow 7pm.

Got an email from SMU. Decisions come out tomorrow at 7pm

Just got the email! Thursday at 7pm. Same day and time probably as TCU??!! Urrrggghgh can’t wait.

3.8 UW, two AP’s (our school doesn’t offer a lot), some honors, clubs, service and varsity sports. No test scores. Nothing crazy outstanding but goes to a top rigorous high school. She really wanted SMU and Cox so went with ED. Glad it worked out!

That was a smart decision.
ED to a school you really want to see yourself at.
I see a lot of people EDing to unrealistic reaches, hoping it will give them an edge - it won’t. If you don’t realistically have a chance to get to a school, ED only helps improve the school’s selectivity.
Heartiest congratulations to you and your kid :tada::confetti_ball::pray:. And thanks for sharing the stats.

At least we know!

Congratulations! Did you hear from Cox too? I know someone that ED’d SMU but was denied to Cox a week later…

True, despite being a nervous wreck for the next 26 hours.

Yes, got into Cox two days ago (about two weeks after ED came out)

I’m hoping we hear Cox decisions soon after the SMU decisions later tonight, and not have to keep second guessing through the holidays - that would be too stressful.
Last year’s thread gives me some hope. I see EA decisions went out on Dec 18th and Cox acceptances were reported stating Dec 20th.

Good luck to all sweating for decisions tonight :crossed_fingers:.

Congratulations! That’s awesome!

Is it 7 pm ET or CT tonight? My son has been taking mid-terms all week. I have not bothered him with college applications this week.

Email says 7pm CST

For those in the know, how’s the student experience at SMU, particularly for someone from a financially secure but not highly affluent backgrounds?
I’ve been seeing a lot of stereotypes(?) that it can be intimidating for someone who can’t afford the “high-life.”
Kiddo is very upbeat on Cox - and, honestly we can afford to send her without any merit aid, but isn’t 100% sure if the culture or vibe may suit her. She’s had a reasonably privileged life, and we’ve lived all through in affluent neighborhoods, but have middle-class values and don’t own generational wealth.
Nothing against ultra-rich people, btw. Just trying to make sure if my kid can adjust at SMU.

I am the single earner, middle-class office job, in a family with two kids going to expensive private schools. It has been financially challenging for us so not even “financially secure”. My kid was not in Greek life. For one, she has been so busy working as Residential Assistant and second, she just could not afford it. But my kid has had a wonderful time at Cox. She has her friends’ group, mostly from middle-class backgrounds, not from super wealthy. The school is what you make out of it. She had two summer internships (sophomore and junior summers) and will be working FT as an analyst in one of the top CIB banks in Dallas area. I can’t be any happier for her as a parent.

I don’t have a lot of insider info but my daughter has a good friend who is a BBA scholar at Cox. His mom told me that the only thing that he doesn’t love about SMU is that some of the kids really flaunt a lot of money. And this particular family is quite wealthy but not flashy at all. That said, I think he is the kind of kid who it would bother, he joined a frat, wants to be part of the in crowd etc.

My S25 wouldn’t even notice if there was a bunch of spending around him. He also wouldn’t care. I’m sure if SMU works out for him, he’ll find his nerdy friends and be just fine.
