I want to get it, I haven’t asked my parents just yet, but I will later. They know I can’t/don’t do my laundry. I would probably mess up my clothes, it seems like a waste of time…idk

i wish i couldnt do my laundry, but i can, so I could go either way

Get it (E&R laundry service) if you can stomach paying for it, it will save you valuable time especially at SPS.
Ideally though, you make friends with a Day Student or Faculty member who takes your laundry home on a weekly basis and does it for you in exchange for weekend babysitting or something! GOOD LUCK!

Haha Sarum, “A” SPS doesn’t have day students, and “B” I have never heard of a faculty member doing a students laundry.

I would highly recommend getting E & R, kids who don’t generally end up compensating by doing their laundry once every like three weeks which is gross.

Do they lose clothes? I really don’t like losing my clothes…

Milk: What science are you in?

Most people use the service. In fact I don’t know of anyone that doesn’t (they also do Exeter and Andover). We always used the basic service. Our son does his own sheets and we do dry cleaning when he comes home. But it’s nice to the other clothes washed and ironed.

I seriously don’t understand the point of ER laundry.

Is it really /that hard to buy some detergent, wash your whites separately, and let them swirl around for an hour and dry for another? That can’t take more than 20 minutes, max. If I don’t have time to do that once a week, then I’m scared already.

Like I said, my son does some and sends out some. Yes, it is easy to do wash, ironing is a bit more of a pain.

Ahhh, but I don’t iron. Ironing, I think, is something that becomes more important to you as you age; I couldn’t care less if my clothes are wrinkled yet my grandmother threatens to tear them off me if they’re not stiff straight.

Even so, ironing clothes on a day to day basis would take about 10 minutes. Getting 10 extra minutes of sleep and 20 extra minutes of the weekend doesn’t justify paying so much a year, personally.

Sarum!! I thought you were serious!! :)

10 minutes of sleep will seem like eternity. Trust me.

My child doesn’t use E&R and has no problem doing laundry and feels it doens’t take that much time. In fact, she would not trust her clothes to E&R. It’s all a matter of preference.

I’m used to waking up at 5/6 every day so I don’t think it’ll be that much of a problem.

I think there is a gender difference with E&R. Some of the girls use it and most of the boys use it, but I think all find their way to the machines (or get a parental hand if they live close by) once in a while. Girls are more likely to have clothes they want to give special attention and some girls are more likely to find time to wash/fold/hang their clothes than some boys. The boys are also more likely to wear the kinds of clothes where you get a good deal at E&R, like dress shirts on hangers.
The basic service includes sheets, but now it seems like they are trying to emphasize that it doesn’t include special care items, like “helly hansen” or fleeces, which is nuts because they don’t need any special care. (I think they tried to charge my child for a pair of athletic pants last year.) Does anyone know about this?
You will lose some socks, just like at home. If you don’t already do your own wash, you are probably underestimating the time it will take to do it. You will be very busy at SPS.

I had E&R for a year and it was fine, but I preferred to do my own laundry. E&R just lost a lot of my clothes, one of my nice formal dresses, and I got a lot of clothes that were not mine. The only reason that I stopped using E&R was because I usually forgot to send it out, and it took so long, I mean a few days is a while. Doing my laundry only took a little while, and it’s not like you have to wait in the laundry room, no one steals clothes or anything. It’s not really a large time commitment, it only takes like 10 minutes. But either way, having it or not, never really affected my schedule.

Personally, I think E&R is a massive waste of money. First of all they are constantly loosing clothes or giving items to the wrong people and they often stain things. And I understand that everyone thinks that they’re going to be too busy to wash their clothes but I mean honestly all it takes is 20 minutes max to separate your clothes and stick them in the washer then you can go do whatever and then just switch them to the dryer. It’s not that time consuming at all, it’s a matter of whether or not people are too lazy to do it.

And FYI it cost $1.50 to wash and another $1.50 to dry your clothes at SPS.

Do the self service laundry machines use coins or do you have to buy a card from E&R?

Will d need her own iron & board or will they be available in her dorm?

you load money onto your school id which they give you when you get there, and there are irons and ironing boards in dorms

ewwww i would not want to do my laundry every three weeks!!
hmmm ill have to ask my parents again about ER they don’t really like the idea of paying so much for it and apparently according to my dad “doing laundry builds character”

My daughter will ABSOLUTELY be doing her own laundry. I saw the price E&R charges and there is no way we will pay that on top of the full pay tuition that we pay. It is nice though that some students on full FA can afford laundry service.
