St. Paul's School Concord NH

Every year, most rising 6th form girls will have their photos taken with a theme to show form unity. This year, it is eye black - in the past, I’ve seen sweatbands, garlands, etc.

was something suppose to be sent to everyone on august first? I don’t know about you but I just realized nothing has come in the mail yet.

Wow! Does this mean all the Vl Form ladies will be attending Football games?

MilkandCookies-check with your parents, we have received an email about what to expect on the first day and a letter from the rector

yes, I know they’ve gotten those, except was there something else?

ah never mind my comment.

sorry- might have been said earlier, do we have to bring non- cell phone phones to sps for our vm?

yes you do

So we have to buy the phones that we exclusively use in our dorm room? (I didn’t understand the q completely.)

Yes, bring a phone with you (or buy one in Concord).

Almost time for the admitted students to attend, ** So…. now info of interest to the next round of applicants.** A few statistics for the past three years (2007-2009):

Financial Aid % of Tuition: 27.8% - 28.5% - 28.6%
Median SSAT’s: 83% - 88% - 86%
Total Applicants: 1,111 - 1,190 - 1226
Selectivity: 22% - 22% - 19%
Yield: 68% - 59% - 70%
Tuition as % of total Cost: 49% - 48% - 47%

So what does it all mean?
1. Giving to the school is up, even though it is down nationally.
 2. Even a “full pay student”, it is paying less than half of the cost (thank the alumni).
 3. Financial Aid is up, and will increase again next year.
 4. Applications are up, as is selectivity and yields (all great).
 5. SSAT’s vary dramatically (between 83% and 90%), because that is only one element of a decision (Note this is the median).
 6. The Yield increase is why more girls will be in doubles and triples than usual. But the boys will benefit, by less crowding.

For returning students, you will recognize the house in this video. For new students, moving this 440 ton house is the first step to get ready to build a new math/science center: [114-year old brick house arrives at a new foundation](<a href=“Photo & Video Uploads from Manchester, NH's Local Community | wmur.com”>Photo & Video Uploads from Manchester, NH's Local Community | wmur.com) Really fun as a time lapse!

Any questions from potential applicants? I know there is a LOT of information on this thread already!

Hate to post 2x in one day, but I posted a long post elsewhere (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1063069405-post53.html</a>) and thought you might want to know that St. Paul’s has been 1st or tied for 1st in the Prep Review Survey for each and every year in the past five.

Some large schools to the south of SPS will moan and wail. They will dismiss the numbers, conclude that the Ivy’s do not matter anyway and accuse me of slander, But facts are facts. Here are a few school’s rankings for the past 5 years (ranked by their average ranking):

St. Paul’s: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1
Milton: 4, 3, 2, 5, 2
Andover: 1, 6, 4, 2, 4
Groton: 4, 4, 3, 4, 3
Exeter: 1,6,6, 15, 5
Deerfield: 7, 2, 7, 3, 6

This is not a dis against any school, just a summary of facts. These (&others) all all Great schools, each with unique strengths and the real differences are small.

Now, having said that, the school does not get you into a college, you do that. So if you are a student, work hard. If you are an applicant shoot high. And if you are proud of SPS, you are entitled to be. It is a magical place with a astoundingly beautiful campus, a talented and diverse student body, great facilities and a dedicated faculty. Oh and yeah we suck at some sports, but excel in others.

About that dorm phone you bring to SPS, it is supposed to be an old fashioned corded desk phone. I guess that as with many minor rules at SPS, enforcement varies by house and year, but I have heard of students prevented from using their cordless models.

Before you weren’t supposed to have cordless phones, but now you can they just don’t recommend it. But tons of people have cordless phones so that they can walk around in their dorm while talking, and also a phone with a speaker is useful.

What bank do most students use?

Are there two separate phone outlets (two lines) for a double room (Drury)? One line for each student? Or do the kids share a number?

Sarum - Every student has their own phone line/number and internet plug.

sk8 - i’m not really sure, personally I just use like a visa gift card that my parents send me

Tres Gourmet!!! I’m not sure my little gremmie will be able to contain his enthusiasm.

Why don’t they just use cell phones? At my son’s school room phones are practically non-existent.

Bad cell phone reception in some dorms.

Do the kids have to bring their own Ethernet cable to hook up into the wall?

Yeah you have to bring your own Ethernet cable or you can buy it from the school store or the nearby Target.
