how are the showers? I just realized i don’t know what they’re like…are they like locker room showers?

The bathroom facilities really depend on what dorm you’re in

What are some of the pro and cons of the dorm Ford? Also, I’m in a triple

I urge you guys to be more conscious of how much information you give out on this site. Quad in kehaya, triple in ford, new students??? Maybe you guys don’t care if people know who you are now but next year you might. Jet try not to narrow yourselves down to far. Just a friendly piece of advice.

Hockeykid841, what could you be thinking is going to happen this year or next?
“Just a friendly piece of advice” seems very ominous and not very welcoming at all.
Do you have some first hand experience at giving too much information out on a website or something?

i have been thinking the same thing as hockeykid as i see some new students offer up identifying details. confidentiality is key to the honesty of this thread because it allows users to answer and ask frankly and without fear of faculty/parental/peer judgment. and while st. paul’s is certainly not big brother, it’s not a good idea to attach your real name (or details that are as good as) to something as uncontrolled and easily accessible as a message board.

some may recall an incident a few years ago when one student blogged about drinking with fellow students (offering full names and the school’s name) and was punished after a prospective parent googled the school and found her blog.

the golden rule: if you wouldn’t feel comfortable saying it to adults, teachers, parents, and peers alike, don’t put your name on it.

also, crayolacrayons:

the showers are single stall. there’s one bathroom per floor that has anywhere from 2-4 showers. the water pressure is generally so-so but they heat up pretty fast. the normal ones are about the size of a pool/locker room one, but in many dorms there is a bathtub/shower stall that (if you can get it) is quite roomy.

also, if you haven’t been told already, bring rubber flip flops for the showers. i don’t want to think about what i’d be stepping on with my bare feet…

did I read a while back that the dorm rooms were getting new furniture? or was it all tripples? Or just certain dorms? If so what is it like ?

Not all bathrooms are what asdum described. In the dorm I was in last year we had two bathrooms on each floor on either side and each bathroom had one shower, two sinks and a toilet. There was one bathroom were only 2 people had to share it while there was another bathroom where 6 or 7 people had to share it. And personally my water pressure was amazing and perfect and the hot water was endless.

can someone please give me some hints about gettin into boarding schools??

Bigblue: I was told that the new girls double and triples will have new furniture.

Lindha: Well… get decent SSAT’s, have good grades and show the admissions staff that you have true interests/avocations. Most teens are a good fit for some school, but the most competitive schools reject lots of applicants that ‘look good on paper’. They are admitting a person not a resume. They are looking for a good chemistry for the incoming class. That means they want a diversity of backgrounds and talents. They are also looking for teens that can thrive in a different environment and get along with others. So personality matters. That all returns to making an effort to let them see who you really are. Be yourself. If they do not admit you, they may be doing you a favor. They want you to flourish, not fail. They have seen tens of thousands of teens. So trust their judgement, but also realize that they will make mistakes every year. So… apply to several schools. I will PM you.

Winterset: Would you say schools have certain personalities (or people with personalities that they’re looking for?)

Winterset -new girls? as in all third formers?

Boarder: I answered you with a PM. Yes, there are some differences.

bigblue: New girls in all forms. As you may have heard earlier, last years boys outnumbered girls. This year it is the reverse (4 less boys, 15 more girls). All varies with the imponderables of who accepts an SPS offer. So with more girls this year (3rd & 4th form) rooms in the girl’s dorms will be slightly tighter than last year. So more doubles from large singles & triples from large doubles (not a problem, they are nice rooms that 6th formers might have gotten otherwise). For those rooms I know they have bought new furniture to make the rooms work better. I have no idea about other rooms. Some new furniture is bought every year. This summer the ASP program occupied about half the dorms with some of the others getting normal new paint, carpeting or whatever. Clear?

yes thank you

The Concord newspaper had an article about the new Science/Math building. The new building will be 85,000 sq ft compared to the current combined total of 48,000 sq ft. Excerpts included:

Wish I could post a photo/drawing.

Nice Winterset. I am sure permits will fly through considering half the state will be put to work with the project:)

Is there a Fly Fishing Club at SPS? There is lots of good water in the area. Are there any Brown or Brook Trout in the school’s lakes? (catch and release of course)

gobigred: right, i forgot about the smaller ones. you have good water pressure? sick.

I was waiting for someone else to answer Sarum’s question…but…

If interested in fly fishing here is a link to a story with 7 photos on the Angler’s Society: [St. Paul’s School Fly Fishing](http://www.sps.edu/common/news_detail.asp?newsid=90699&L1=&L2=&tabs=arts)

As you will see, they stock the stream with 10-18" rainbow trout. I suspect it is in the faster water between the Turkey Pond Dam and the Lower School Pond. It is a good sized stream with fast water, boulders and pools. Photo #5 is of the bridge over the stream. Fish upstream from there. On the campus map it if just off the top right hand side. I have seen kids walking across campus with fly rods. Obviously there are other streams in the area. Ask around campus and you can probably find a teacher that will take you elsewhere.

Thanks W.
Another good reason to get to bed early Saturday night:)
