Stanford 2014 SCEAers

Wow. I… I don’t really know what to say. But, that means a lot, IPadraic. Thank you. Thank you a lot!
And I hope you the best luck in getting in as well!
(I would totally return the hug! I am a very huggy person.)

I do think we should go ahead and create THE decisions thread or a separate one for QB applicants so that they have a chance to share their results.

Prussia! is the biggest name in the Stanford forums. Celebrity. But I hope for the best for everyone. It seems like we are in such a gamble when you look at all the people who have been rejected and accepted.

I’m sure joining this thread late… Guess I should get on CC more often…

Couple quick questions for the people here:

 1. I heard Stanford released the Early Action decisions early last year (I think it was the Friday before the 15th?). Chances they’ll do it again this year?
 2. What’s this “QB application” thing I keep hearing about?
 3. What’s CC’s opinion on how much Legacy helps at Stanford? (Maybe I missed this discussion in one of the 175 previous pages…)

Best of luck, everyone!
And GO STANFORD!!
Bowl Game + Toby Gerhart + USC Win + Notre Dame Win = EPIC!

hey Ipadraic where were you in our little party? you’ve missed out big time!

and ezak questbridge is a scholarship thing. qualify and become a finalist for that + get accepted early decision to a list of certain schools = free ride + more moneys
someone correct me if i’m wrong, that’s just what i got from it.

Best of luck Prussia!(!!) and all other QBers

its for low income students
its a “college match” program
if you are approved for academics and a low enough income or special circumstances, you have the opportunity to use college match.
theres one application that is sent to all the schools on your list. you rank the order of your colleges (many of the top universities participate). you automatically commit to attending the highest colleges on your list that you are accepted to. like if ur 1st is stanford, 2nd is yale, 3rd is pomona and you get rejected by stanford but accepted by yale and pomona, you automatically commit to harvard.
but QuestBridge guarantees that the college gives you 100% scholarship aid.

i was going to apply through QB but they dont have harvard as a partner institution
they have 27.
go to the website for more info

although some colleges require you to use common app + supplement anyway

mhmmm ^ nicely put (:
gah
senioritis strikes!

Aww, thank you IPad. I don’t think I can take that much credit, though! The other people in this thread have contributed a lot as well.

You are correct, ezak. These were the dates from the previous years:
Class of '13 -
SCEA: December 12 (Friday)
Class of '12 -
SCEA: December 14 (Friday)
Class of '11 -
SCEA: December 15 (Friday)
Class of '10 -
SCEA: December 15 (Thursday)

We speculate that the decisions may be released early again this year, on Dec 11, the Friday before the 15th; but, there has been debate about whether the previous years were different just because the Stanford adcoms don’t want to work on the weekend, and were working around that. '10 and '11 were on time, but in '12 the 15th fell on a Saturday, and in '13 the 15th was a Monday. There has been dissent on how that reflects on this year’s potential results date, as the 15th is a Tuesday this year.

QB refers to Questbridge, which is a scholarship sort of program through which some students are “matched” and apply to colleges, getting their results early. I don’t know much more about it than that. I’ve heard that if they’re rejected in this early round, they can reapply in the regular decisions round.

I don’t know about legacies! I think it can be a tipping factor, and/or they’ll look at you a little more favorably for it, but I don’t know much more than that. No, we haven’t discussed it, haha. I wish I could give a more concrete answer, but it’s a very subjective topic that I think only the adcoms themselves could answer.

Hmm, I’m not sure what to do about QB decisions. We could have a mini-decisions thread for them, but I haven’t heard them chime in about it at all, which inclines me to let them handle what they wish to do themselves.

I just saw the new House, and wow I didn’t realize that Prussia was QB too or did I misread Nitro’s comment? Good luck, you’ll be an amazing part of the Stanford class of 2014, or 2015 for sure. On that note, good luck to all!

PS: Ipad, why that username?, sounds cool though.

Haha oh no, I’m not QB. I’m SCEA with the rest of 'em! But I do appreciate the sentiment!

takes back well wishes

haha my bad idk what made me think you were

she did say she was poor, so that might have been it. Anyway anybody want to hear some funny calculus jokes?

This is your fault, Nitro! Geez! Geez.

Calculus jokes?! Do tell…

HELLLO.i’ve been trying to be productive…it’s so hard. i’ve realized that i have developed no study habits what so ever b/c i don’t study for tests…so when i need to study i don’t know how to.

Wow, thanks for all the quick and great responses, guys!
I can see why people love Prussia! so much on these threads!

So has anybody else felt that their application has gotten much stronger since they submitted it for EA? I felt really good about my Stanford app, but now I’m finding a lot of things to fix and a lot of improvements to make for my Harvard / other ones…

HAHAHAH calculus jokes. oh man. my teacher told some good math ones last year o___o

no…my app has remianed the same. no improvements at all sadly.
