Termin

@ Diviio : I’m Malaysian too! Living in Malaysia though duh. Indian, so I’m guessing we’re gonna be competing directly with each other. Are you a US citizen, did you apply for FA?

Don’t worry, I pretty much fail at everything compared to you guys, hopefully they’ll love my essay. I’m drawing at straws here okay, leave me alone. :)

Plus, I applied for FA which Stanford gives to only about 50 intls a year. So my chances basically suck so much worse than you guys, haha I can alreasy imagine the rejection letter.

Hahahaha, everytime someone calls me “IPad” on this forum I think of this MAD Tv sketch:

[YouTube - MadTV - iPad (iPod Parody) correct aspect](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1BUH9eXy18)

Very appropriate… I wish all races luck. I honestly wish they’d get rid of having to specify.

yeah I’m a US citizen I came here when I was 4 and lived in Michigan till the 3rd grade and then moved here to Idaho.

You da ho.

I bet you here that all the time. Sorry.

I am scared as hell.

EDIT: For decisions, I mean.

To IP: yes I do, but in our defense, the western states were the first states to give women to right the vote! Even if the ulterior motive of that was to achieve statehood faster (that bummed me out when I learnt that), it was still a step forward lol. (btw in teh Idaho seal, there is a man and woman of equal height, indicating equal status and rights!)

Fashion Capital is another nice username lol. Did you write about fashion at all in any of your essays?.

I’ve been researching the differences between EA and normal specifically for Stanford, but I’m a tad confused. Is the only real reason for applying EA so that you’ll find out sooner? It sounds to me like it would be better to apply (if the former is true) during normal season so that there is a larger admit pool. Otherwise, the EA admit pool is a lot smaller in comparison so you have less of a chance of getting in.

Unless I’m mistaken… can anyone clarify for me?
thanks

wasn’t the regular decision admit rate only 8%ish and the EA 12%ish, i always though EA acceptance rate was slighthy higher but i could be wrong.

It’s slightly higher for SCEA compared to RD, but who knows how “Good” it can be for an individual. You could simply be deferred anyway, but if you are rejected EA I’m guessing it probably would’ve happened for RD. That’s the way the Stanford coated cookie crumbles

They only accepted a total of 2300 students last year and received about 30,000 applications total, wow.

@Diviio: Hah, thanks. Hahaha, no, I didn’t, actually. I wrote a lot about films, though.

@Torch: as far as Stanford goes im guessing we aren’t an under-represented state in the applicant pool when compared to our state population. Boise is one of the most well to do cities socioeconomically in the country and, because Stanford is the closest super srsbsns school to us alot of our top students apply there.

for some context, we have at least 6 applying REA from our school (myself, diivio and 1 QBer included) and probably at least 2 or 3 more for the RD round this year.

and unless there are statistics to indicate otherwise i think the difference in the applicant pools between RD and REA might be a little over stated (although 4% is almost arbitrary
but to be fair when looked at from the accepted side thats rougly 150% more accepted) because I would have difficulty divining any difference in applicant strength from those that applied to Stanford from our school–past and present-- through REA vs RD.

Although, again, thats a tiny, isolated sample size and really isnt worth extrapolating any meaningful data from but i will say this the reason behind those who applied REA from our school, just about everyone that I’ve talked too did it because of the 4% nudge, not because of the quicker decisions (thats just a side benefit). Which means that there are alot of people who apply early to improve their chances which indicates that the applicant pool might not be as much harder as we pretend it is.

Personally i think REA applicants get a slight edge even after the applicant pool difficulty/athletics is accounted for.

Am i right in saying that athletic recruits are included in the REA acceptance rate?

Whenever I see ‘IPadraic’ I think of Padraig Harrington. Or some East European type name.

Wait, what’s the source on the Ivies releasing their decisions on the 11th?

Nitro, thanks for the info. Learned something new.

So Nitro, in your opinion, disregarding the fact that you have already submitted REA, which do you prefer (RD or REA)?

sorry, did a bunch of editing

REA :P

although in retrospect i would have def applied to Cornell or Dartmouth EA for the significant boost in chance when compared to Stanfords REA program, despite Stanford being my first choice

ahh well… hindsight is always 20/20

@Torcher, haha i think of paddy too when i see IPad’s name
