Stanford 2014 SCEAers

well. yes. im good at tennis as i’ve won a bunch of state level and regional awards and such but im by no means a tennis genius…and yes research is major…and there’s dance…but my real concern is that i don’t want to come off as someone who’s not committed to anything even though i am.

please definitely know if you have have any other opinions.this is really important. thanks!

The quality of your abstract and any recs will show your dedication to your research (assuming it is good of course), The awards show your interest and skill in tennis, and if you have something to show your skill in dance, I don’t see how it could harm to put it in, I don’t think they’ll see you are undedicated, just skilled in time management and doing your best in more then one field of interest.

Not putting the dance thing in might make you less unique since there might be lots of kids with just athletic and reserach supplements.

I personally don’t think putting all your skills can hurt you in any way or come off negatively if these skills are well documented and shows your level of interest in that skill.

btw does anyone know how far Alpha Centauri is from our planet? (hint: in light years)

300 million. thats a guess. I have a feeling its waaay too big

it’s 4.37 light years away, which is 41.5 trillion kilometers or 25.8 trillion miles, but that’s a nice try though, nice name btw Xargon. Does it have anything to do with the word jargon?

PS: I got the km and mile measurements from wikipedia, so I don’t know if they are 100% correct.

nope its this hella old computer game, my parents and I used to play it circa 1997. So this thread- is it the same few people for over 3000 posts?

Aww I was gonna guess 5…
xargon, people come and go
the dedicated people stay (:

lol yeah I think it’s about the same 15 people that post lol,but there seem to be a few newcomers so that might change. I guess the Yale Wars just brought a lot of us together, or as close as you can get with online strangers you don’t know without revealing your identity for security purposes. :P

PS: Good job Diglett for being really close.

sounds cool. so you guys all applied REA? what do you, honestly, think your chances are?

Honestly I think they took a look at my application and dramatically flung it into a wall xD
No not really, but you get the idea…
We all pretty much have the same low chances I guess seeing they are kind of random with their admissions? Hopefully they were having a good day when they looked at mine.

nice perspective

lol don’t worry diglett, I’m sure they saw the potential “dugtrio” that you will become based on reading your application essays and that dedication to level up and evolve might convince them. Yeah I feel I have a low chance too and if I get selected, it might just be one of the greatest miracles that have ever happened to me.

lol you nerds. I hate how arbitrary this process gets. dreams get shattered for no apparent reason. it sucks

In lieu of all the pokemon screennames–I’m pretty sure they used hypnosis on mine, then ate my hopes and dreams with…dreameater.

Aww diivio that made me smile  That would have made for such an amazing essay xD They probably saw this forum and thought “wow these people would make a great addition to our school, and on top of that THEY BEAT YALE! Let’s accept them!”
I’m pretty sure I’ll be happy wherever I go, but it just seems like this school keeps growing on me…
sighhhhh
Must get to sleep now. Taking that dreaded SAT in the morning. Whoop whoooop?

^ Might? For me it WOULD certainly be one of the greatest miracles. Like not getting destroyed in a black hole.

Yeah, I’m really counting on essays. Though I’ve done some significant research etc I decided not to include any resumes or abstracts since Stanford made it quite clear they detested any supp stuff except Art Supplements.

But yeah, essays count quite a lot, more so for Stanford than for schools like H/Y/M that breathe accomplishments.

Argh I missed all the good conversation today. For the record, I go to school on Stanford Dr. :)
