One Christmas my husband got a deal on a pack of like a dozen of these handwarmers - everybody got a few for Christmas!
It’s cold where we live but that doesn’t stop us from spending time outside - the hand/foot warmers really help on the coldest days!
I ordered Hagibis air pod cleaning sets for both of my kids. I saw this on one of the many stocking stuffer recommendation lists I reviewed, but can’t remember which one.
This gift idea is a little big for a stocking… but I’m looking for suggestion for immersion blender. It is something I mentioned to my son a few months ago when he talked about his challenges making soup, and he had never heard of them.
It needs to work well for soups. Preferably it won’t have a lot of extra stuff since kitchen space is limited. Ideally it would be from a store such as Target so he can do easy in-person return/exchange if he prefers something else.
I like my Cuisinart and considering this one (on a good sale) https://www.target.com/p/cuisinart-quick-prep-single-speed-hand-blender-white-chb-60tg/-/A-80028643#lnk=sametab
Also found one at Kohls, $19 <having trouble with link - tis Elite Cuisine 2-speed 500W Hand Blender with Detachable Wand>
I’d be willing to splurge if we knew son would like using an immersion blender. For now leaning toward more of a budget model (if reviews are good). But open to thoughts here.
I have the exact Cuisinart immersion blender you linked, and so do both of our kids. They really like it and find it easy to use…and store.
Don’t go cheap on an immersion blender. The Cuisnart one is good.
I got my kids all bookmarks from Social Print Studio – you create a bookmark by uploading 4 photos per bookmark, and each bookmark can be different. So I made ones featuring their photos from their trips this year, and I made my siblings ones from photos of our childhood home, which was sold a week ago. It’s relatively inexpensive and they are lots of fun to make (and the photos can be downloads from social media; the photos are little so the resolution doesn’t have to be great)
@thumper1 &@BunsenBurner (trustworthy, long time CC pals
) - Thanks for the quick and helpful feedback. I ordered the Cuisinart immersion blender linked in my post above. Opted to ship it to son’s house, have him open it before Christmas (alas, he’s job hunting these days and has lots of time to cook).
Normally price at $49.99… but I got this great deal today at Target:

I bought an immersion blender similar to that after Christmas from Costco on clearance. Don’t remember the exact price but we enjoyed using it and found it worked pretty well. Ours came with a canvas drawstring bag to keep all the bits together.
An immersion blender is nice to have. I can’t recall off the top of my head the one I have but it is from Costco,
So far I’ve got socks that I bought on sale from REI. Hot chocolate mix from Penzey’s. Small jars of ollalieberry jam from a place we like to get pie from.
Looks like I’m in a kitchen thingy purchase mood tonight. I bought this battery operated stick frother for my husband. (We have an electric pot frother that neither of us love. Maybe we’ll like this better.)

So far I’ve purchased the puzzle table we all discussed in July on the Prime day sale for my sister’s family. And that’s IT! Today I started working on my niece’s boyfriend’s Christmas stocking (but it’s an easy one so should finish this week).
For my kids, I’m thinking of Edison light strings for their patios. For my daughter in Texas, it will be things from Macy’s (delivery for me is free) that can be shipped directly to her, likely kitchen stuff as she has a new house.
The Costco Cuisinart Immersion Blender is also on sale, for 39.99 online and perhaps less in store? Sale also ends today.
It looks like it is 400W vs 250, has multiple speeds vs one and a 4 cup food processor attachment, if those additions are important to any other shoppers.
I have a Cuisinart Smart Stick immersion blender that has served me for years.
I just bought two more for friends (still half price today). What are your favorite uses? I mostly use mine for soup, but when they come to holiday meal I make for them each year maybe I should also have an immersion blender demo dish to serve.
I have used it whip a small amount of whipped cream from heavy cream
Soup, if I want to break down the texture a bit but not liquefy it (as my Vitamix would).
I also find it useful to mix powders into liquids without leaving lumps.
I’ve used the whisk attachment to make whipped cream from heavy cream, but my hand mixer is faster for that task.
I’ve used it with the mini food processor attachment to make small amounts of pesto, or to make a puree of garlic and olive oil (which I then use in a recipe, like baccala, or calamari salad, both of which I make for Christmas Eve.)
My husband can’t stand any kind of chunks in his tomato sauce. When we use jarred sauce, it always has small pieces of tomato or onion or whatever. I’ll just use my sauce the way it comes, he’ll pour his into the immersion blender cup thing and blend it up.
Every day H has been hiding the pen and paper pads on our cruise, and they bring us new ones. All kids will be getting Viking pens and paper in their stockings
I may swipe some lotion for the girls.
Signed, cheapskate
Also– I have not yet used it for this but I plan to: making homemade mayonnaise. I’ve made mayo with my Vitamix, but I’ve seen videos that demonstrate using an immersion blender and it looks a lot easier that way. I use pasteurized eggs for this. (I pasteurize large eggs by cooking them at 135º for 75 minutes with my sous vide machine).
