You could drown someone in it if they were on their back.
People choke to death sitting up. If he was forcing her to drink milk she probably essentially drowned. Poor, poor little girl.
No one is buying his story because why wouldn’t he wake up the pediatric nurse?
It looks like they were affluent. I think the locality should file suit against him ASAP for the cost of the days of searching that were caused by his lies. Maybe they can freeze his assets. Oh look, there’s an attorney above me ^^^ Can they do that? I guess it depends on the state.
He has concocted his current story, which he voluntarily gave to the officers, because “accidental death” is a lesser charge than murder. Obviously, he killed her and dumped her body, hoping it would decompose enough before she was found so as to destroy evidence, such as bruises, sexual assault, etc. If she “accidentally” choked, he would have called 911 immediately, or at the very least, awakened his wife to help.
I have not read all of the details about the case. What kind of job did he have? Why was he up, in the garage, in the middle of the night?
He worked in IT and the wife was a pediatric nurse.
News reported this morning.
-Wesley Mathews will be transferred to Dallas County jail today.
- autopsy results could tell more about what happened to Sherin.
I still feel the wife is being protected She is not talking to the police about what happened though she did provide dental records for identification.
“Why was he up, in the garage, in the middle of the night?”
I was thinking that a special needs toddler doesn’t necessarily sleep through the night, and that if she was up and screaming at 3 AM, that might put an abuser over the edge.
The father didn’t just suddenly decide to abuse his daughter to the point of death that day. He must have been abusing her, and possibly the other kids, for a while. I find it difficult to believe that the mother, a pediatric nurse, was completely blind to signs of ongoing abuse. Not totally impossible I guess, but very difficult to believe.
“The father didn’t just suddenly decide to abuse his daughter to the point of death that day.”
Of course not. That’s why I used the term “abuser.” I’m speculating why a parent might be up in the middle of the night and why abuse might be escalated then.
@Hanna Sorry Hanna, I wasn’t responding to anything you said specifically. I was just making a general observation.
And yes, having been up at 3am multiple nights in a row dealing with a fussy baby/toddler myself, it definitely can strain your sanity.
I don’t think we know enough about what happened yet to make a lot of very specific assertions about what “must have” happened.
Agree. The guy keeps changing his story… all we know for sure is that the poor, poor child is dead, and it was a homicide.
I’ve fostered special needs infants and even adopted one. It will bring the coolest of heads to the breaking point. One of my foster children was going through withdrawals when we got him. He screamed whenever he was conscious, and because he had had cocaine in his system, he almost never slept. It took close to a month for it to clear his system.
A special needs toddler can be extremely willful and wantonly disobedient. I am not accusing little Sherin of this, but I am saying it is entirely possible. Taking care of children with special needs is an entirely different experience from caring for completely healthy ones.
BUT…you, as the adult, know going in that it is your job to put up with it and to do everything you can to provide security and love to that child because that is what they need to get through it. If you can’t handle it, get help and detach from the situation. NEVER let yourself get angry to the point where you feel vindictive toward the child. NEVER take their behavior personally.
It is my belief that these parents were not ready to handle Sherin’s issues, did not take steps to detach, and got too used to resorting to physical violence to control her. On the night of her death, they went too far.
Short news update summarizing what has happened so far.

I am suspicious of the fact that Wesley Mathews felt the need to do a wash. Did he put new clothing on Sherin or was he washing his own or her clothing? If there was just milk on either his or Sherin’s clothing, then one would think he would not bother since that would corroborate his story that she choked on milk.
Wondering what it was that he was washing?
I believe the washer & dryer were seized in connection with the search warrant, as I believe the police department had similar questions and concerns.
I don’t know why he said anything about laundry, or milk, the garage, putting her outside for punishment - basically anything that came out of his mouth. None of it makes sense.
They would have been more believable if they would have just said she disappeared during the night, like the little girl in FL (not the Anthony child) - the other one where the parents were eventually sent to prison on a drug charge, but not for the disappearance of their daughter.
Whatever happened must have jumbled their brains so much that they couldn’t come up with a believable story. Which is a fortunate event because it looks like this case is going to be solved.
If you are interested in following this case further they have changed the name of the facebook page from “Where is Sherin Mathews” to Love & Justice for Sherin “Saraswati” Mathews.
Definitely, this guy is not the most brilliant criminal mind. Whatever he said so far made little sense. Ok, the coyote story made some sense initially when the news made it sound like it happened in a wooded area, the guy was only gone for a few minutes, then he panicked not being able to find the little kid, blah blah. Then it fell apart as more bizarre “facts” about laundry etc. began to surface. Now the milk choking… terrible.
@BunsenBurner I would think that if the child was under distress 911 would have been called. An ambulance would have taken the body to the hospital where a medical professional would have noted the death of the child. The medical professional would have signed the death certificate.
This is not normally declared by an IT person. (the father)
I will believe the police findings based on their investigation into all the evidence.
Exactly. That would be the first thing to flash in any sane person’s mind - call for help.
