Summer Open Houses

Planning on taking D17 to visit Pitt over the summer. I wish we could do it when school was in session, but it is what it is. I was looking at the offerings for summer open houses, and was wondering what the difference was between:

  • Ready Set Pitt
  • Picture Yourself at Pitt

D is most likely going to major in Neuroscience or some other science major within Dietrich. Any idea which of these would be better to attend? And, if it’s going to be Picture Yourself at Pitt, does anyone happen to know the dates…they don’t seem to be posted yet.

We did “Ready Set Pitt” before my daughters Junior year, then did many other collage visits/tours and nothing came close to this. So we went back before her senior year and we did the “So you want to be an Engineer” and "Ready Set Pitt"again the next day. I must say other collages should take a look at how Pitt handles their tours. Any tour you chose I am sure will be great but I say “Ready Set Pitt” it was my favorite and I think my daughter would agree. She will be attending in the fall.

Ready Set Pitt is focused on giving a broad overview of Pitt, the campus, and all that we have to offer. You’ll learn about opportunities in and out of the classroom and get the opportunity to see Pitt and the City of Pittsburgh. https://oafa.pitt.edu/visit/open-houses/ready-set-pitt/

So You Want to Be is our other summer program and it is more focused on specific career interests. Students with an interest in pre-med, for example, could come to campus on a day specifically catered to their interests: https://oafa.pitt.edu/visit/open-houses/so-you-want-to-be-a/

Thanks @hailtopitt1787. Ready Set Pitt it will be then. Do you happen to know if you need to register for these? I don’t see a registration link on the site…at least not yet.

When we visited in summer of 2014 the “so you want to be…” event we went to was in July.

We did register for it.

We registered for every event we attended. I recommend the “So You Want To Be…” Series if any of the options apply.

Registration is probably just not open yet for summer visits. Should be soon.

@2muchquan, We do ask that you register, just so we can have a good idea how many people to plan for at each open house. Registration is not open quite yet, but it should be very soon!
