Re the Wile E. Coyote reference: I feel bad about all the put-downs of Case Keenum, who really had a dream season until last night. And even though he missed some receivers and had three turnovers last night, it was hardly all his fault. All of the turnovers were based on Keenum getting whacked by defensive linemen, sometimes more than one at a time. And the Minnesota offense had five substantial drives during the game, exactly as many as the Eagles’ offense did. The difference, of course, was that the Eagles scored every time they got anywhere near the Vikings’ end of the field, while the Vikings didn’t get a single point out of four trips inside the Eagles’ 20. (Fumble, interception, and two failures to score on 4th and goal, one of which was originally called a touchdown.) The differences between the two teams really boiled down to a few key plays, as often happens. They just pretty much all went the Eagles’ way, except for each of the teams’ first drives.
Not that I’m complaining.
“They just pretty much all went the Eagles’ way, except for each of the teams’ first drives.”
You make it sound like it was luck.
You can’t call that luck. The Vikings were flat and the Eagles played their hearts out with both defense and offense rising to the occasion. That pick-six in the first quarter, though, was an awesome moment and I think it definitely set a psychological tone for both teams last night.
Ahh - just found out I am going to the Super Bowl!! Time to order a Patriots sweatshirt and earmuffs - I am going to freeze!!
Should be fairly warm once inside the stadium, though, right?
Well, momtogkc, you can stay in my FL home, and I’ll go freeze in your place.
I heard tickets are starting at $4000+
Ticket prices dropped a lot after Minnesota lost.
Historically prices almost always drop until around three days before the game.
@momtogkc - I am very very very very jealous.
@sushiritto: There’s an app for that! (Well, a video). You and other Eagles fans might like this Bud Light Eagles parody. It’s at vimeo/251855712 or just search for Vimeo Bud Light Philadelphia.

" Tom Brady is going to be on that podium yet again, holding the trophy and basking in the boos of millions of Patriot haters from San Francisco to the Long Island Sound. The story has already been written. It’s just a matter of playing the game."
^^^ Yep. Just ask the refs!
In the last three seasons, the Patriots have finished 2nd, 2nd, and 5th in the league for fewest penalties called.
The Jaguars have been 18th, 31, and 16th.
When your team has a reputation for playing disciplined, penalty-free football, you will get the benefit of the doubt on marginal calls. It’s just human nature.
Every penalty called on the Jags was obvious and blatant. There were plenty more that weren’t called. It’s not like 6 penalties is a crazy number for a game.
But yeah, maybe the league is conspiring with the refs to get the Patriots to the Super Bowl again. The league office has such love for the Patriots… 8-|
The refs are probably why the Titans got their butts handed to them as well. /s
The Jags lost because of bad play calling on both sides of the ball in the 4th quarter. And why didn’t they try for a fg at the end of the first half? They had 50 seconds and two time-outs, and only needed about 35 yards to get in fg range. Had they scored, do you think that would have made a difference on their last drive of the game, when they had the ball in fg range on the Patriots’ 38? A few runs to bleed the clock and burn the Pats’ timeouts, then a fg for the lead. Instead they are throwing long on 4th down. Pure cowardice/idiocy by the coaches. You generally can’t beat the Patriots by playing it safe.
Google “william sharp twitter very sad thread for Jaguars fans” for a very insightful analysis of how the Jags blew the game (can’t link to twitter directly apparently).
Blaming the refs is for losers.
@LuckyCharms913 thank you.
The way Brady moves, even as a young man, I’m surprised he can get himself on to any podium. They may have to install a lift for him at some point. I wince when I see him run. Just pray Brian Hoyer doesn’t have to see the field, because he’s awful.
Let’s hope the Eagles D smothers the Patriots offense. Philly Philly!
The jags’ penalties were an offside, a delay of game (very costly), an interference where it was pretty clear (grabbed around the neck), the helmet to Gronk’s head, and then the interference right after that that probably should have been a holding but I think it was payback for the Gronk hit that could only be a 15 yarder but that the refs wanted to be more.
I don’t remember the final one.
Nothing that I couldn’t call from my living room over 2000 miles away.
Patriots don’t take the little penalties. There was one game earlier in the year when they got a lot of small penalties and Belichick went nuts. Didn’t happen the next week.
pats fan here. No one I know takes it for granted they will win. I don’t get what Brady does is arrogant. Usually he keeps his mouth shut and there isn’t trash talk. I thought the hand thing was stupid. Its as if there wasn’t anything else to focus on. As Bellichik (sic) said It isn’t open heart. surgery.
Brady and Amendola take less in their contracts so that the Patriots can stay under the salary cap and still get good players. They’re smart, because they know the more successful the team is, the more money they can make from off field jobs like appearance, advertising, modeling. Brady’s wife used to make 4x what he did, so he clearly doesn’t need the money. Gronk doesn’t spend his paychecks.
Brady answers the questions at press conferences but it doesn’t matter what he says, half the people hate him. If he said his hand hurts, he’s faking. If he says it doesn’t hurt, he’s lying.
I used to run into some sports stars when my kids were in youth sports (and John Elway went to the same dentist I did!). I felt sorry for them as they just wanted to watch their kids play and they were surrounded by fans. People think they are rude or arrogant, but I think sometimes they just want to watch their kids play soccer or hockey or have dinner at Chili’s.
I’ll say it again…haters gonna hate. I just don’t get it but I’ve stopped trying. The Patriots played a fair game, once again at a distinct team disadvantage with the loss of Gronk for the second half. No matter what lemons are thrown at the team, they come up with a great pitcher of lemonade! GO PATRIOTS!
When the Patriots win the Super Bowl a week from Sunday, I wonder if any parents will forbid their students to attend any college in New England?
To read that article, I’m surprised they are even going to bother playing the game. They ought to just go ahead and give them the trophy already…
You don’t get it? Hint…I think a lot of it might be about the…you know…(whispers while looking over shoulder),the cheating stuff.

I am not sure at all that the Patriots will win. Philly has a legit defense that performed against some reasonable competition (unlike the Jags’ cakewalk schedule). If 2013 Foles or last-week Foles shows up, they will score some points.
The Patriots’ defense has very few star-caliber players right now - Chung and McCourty are good, maybe Flowers. Gilmore and Butler (cornerbacks) are up and down, with Hightower out the biggest name among the linebackers is a 39 year old who couldn’t get on the field in Pittsburgh but is playing 30+ snaps a game now. It doesn’t inspire confidence in me.
No Edelman. It is unknown if Gronk will play at this point.
Can the Eagles keep from losing their collective minds in the second half? That may decide the game.
I’m an Eagles fan, simply from having grown up in south Jersey. I don’t hate Brady or the Patriots but I get that a lot of people do. The son of longtime family friends is, in his sport, probably the equivalent of Brady. People all over two countries hate this kid, and he is a good person, sweet, kind, generous and humble. It’s baffling to read some of the hateful things that people write about him, and it’s hurtful to his mom, I can tell you! The thing is, I guess people feel that they best can be attacked, not physically, but that it is their right as fans to say whatever they want to about him. It’s sports, it isn’t anything more. I just hope for a good game in Minnesota. Too often that doesn’t happen in the SB. A group of my old h/s friends are going to the game.
