There was nothing Puerto Rican about it. JLo is from New York City. ?
Shakira from Colombia. Pretty clear contrast between the two.

Wow, to my surprise a couple and a man on our street accepted our last-minute invitation to come over and watch the game with us! In New England! I made chili and we had a great time. ?
I said, that CAN’T be Shakira, because that girl is 22 years old! (Then I looked it up, 43 today!) I didn’t really care for the show but I have to admit the dancing by both ladies was impressive, for a singer of any age. What put me off a bit was the 2 scantily extremely suggestively clad ladies (I joked that JLo had a wardrobe malfunction from the moment she got dressed in that outfit) next to guys in long sleeve sweatshirts and sweatpants - I know, probably intentionally hiding Dad-bods, but still.
Oh, and the game. Was there a game? We were pulling slightly for SF because we lived there in the 80s - the glory years of Joe Montana, Dwight Clark, Jerry Rice, coach Bill Walsh, and back in the day I attended a playoff game and a superbowl at Stanford (SF vs Miami)… I guess that was # XIX.
Very happy for Andy Reid to finally won one SB.
We had family over and were rooting for the Chiefs. It was an exciting 4th quarter. I liked Shakira, didn’t care much for JLo.
Awesome all around. The halftime show was lit! J-Lo and Shakira both had great energy, choreography, and costumes. DH is a happy camper because he’s from KC. Loved that commercial @crknwk2000! Sam Elliott is perpetually cool.
Loved both JLo and Shakira. Very happy for the Chiefs.
Gotta say that our local ads really sucked. Fred Meyer and BECU - ugh.
@BunsenBurner same here. They were mostly cringy ones for law firms.
Oh god. Even worse than ads for a grocery store and a credit union!!!
It’s Missouri. It’s not Kansas. Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas is 1/2 a mile away. But it’s Missouri.
I loved the Bill Murray/Groundhog Day/Jeep ad (and I’m not a big “Groundhog day” fan to begin with.) That last shot of Bill with the groundhog strapped to his chest in a baby carrier really makes me laugh…
Her parents are both from Puerto Rico. She’s Nuyorican.
Sort of off topic and on topic - why do people give JLo such a hard time? I feel there is a lot of dislike for her. She works darn hard on her craft - should I say “crafts” as she has had success in more than one arena and seems to really give her all for whatever she is involved in.
Also why is she being questioned about representing Puerto Rico? Does she have to have been born there to represent her heritage??? I say Amen to someone standing up for her family’s country of origin especially when they need it most - which is now.
I didn’t see the game, but I watched the half-time show afterward. I loved it, especially Shakira. I didn’t see anything exploitative about it like a lot of people are saying–I saw two women being very powerful, and very talented. And some underlying messaging, which I’ll leave at that.
I am in awe of their energy at 43 and 50!
^^^ I read that article last night. A good little peek into some of the context of the half time show. Subtle but meaningful. Makes me want to watch the performances again.
My team lost but omg the 43 and 50 y.o women look better now than they did in their 20’s! Best halftime show ever!
I don’t know but I feel the same thing. Honestly people just don’t like super successful, very high profile women? Can it be as simple as that?
She is legitimately talented. From her start as a dancer and choreographer as a fly girl. I don’t know why people pretend she isn’t talented.
Puerto Rican flag on JLo’s huge wrap, some other imagery. She has been criticized for claiming to be Puerto Rican since she herself is from
Nyc. It’s no different from me
Being Irish because all my grandparents came from Ireland. Don’t see why she is any less Puerto Rican!!
