I have found the Financial Aid Office pretty unresponsive. I sent in all the documents as requested and have heard nothing, not even an acknowledgment. Has anyone else had the same negative experience? Or are they just inundated and slow to respond? Wondering if we should move on to other schools who have offered attractive aid packages.

I was quite irritated after getting off the phone with them today. I even had D turn around and confirm to stay on 2 WLs and not turn down the other offers just yet bc its been 3 weeks since they sent her acceptance, and not 1 single word from FA despite me emailing them after a week of no word and calling last week to confirm they had everything just in case.
Guy was rather rude, said theyre working on it & i didnt need to keep calling they would notify us when it was ready and basically told me wed get it when we got it. They were trying to get it out before may 1st when we are supposed to have made a decision.
Only thing i managed to find out is they only release FA on thursdays too, which makes no dam sense with them being so far behind but at least i know not to waste my time checking anything until then. Seriously starting to have doubts tho bc of how this is being handled but its the one she wants so ill give them another week or 2 at most then ill tell her to look at accepting one of the other schools she got into.

Thank you for responding! I’ll make sure to share all of this with my son. We’ve been so conflicted about Aerospace versus Mechanical as a declared major. Some say that an Aerospace degree may make job options more limited and that just as many Mechanical engineers are hired for Aerospace jobs. How has your daughter felt about her job options with an Aerospace degree?

Since it’s her first choice it is understandable you just want answers sooner rather than later. Just know that there are so many wonderful things about the school and once you receive word on the final aid and you see how happy she is you will start to forget how annoyed you were for a few weeks in march/april.

Totally agreed. And I figure itll all be fine in the long run. Im just a worrier by habit and just want to know for sure that things are handled and in place. Life has had a tendency to throw a lot of curveballs my way & ive just gotten to the point that until something is set in stone I panic about it.

Thankfully it is not my daughter’s first choice. Dealing with unresponsive staff in the FA office and waiting on a decision has made the entire experience unpleasant. Just want an answer so we know whether to cross them off.

Same, this is super frustrating. I’m working on my memo for the maxwell scholarship and its frustrating to put in work for a school I may not even be able to afford to attend.

Are her other options viable based on the aid they offered? If it’s not her first choice and the experience has been unpleasant then just absolutely makes sense to just move on. No sense dragging out something that isn’t even a preference.

I want to see the FA offer before we make a final decision.

Nvm. My parents won’t let me go to Syracuse because they’d have to pay 77k for me to go to a lower ranked school compared to UW Madison or UIUC. DELETED.

I think your parents may be right. There is no school worth $77K. And, to know tuition will increase, it is a colossal waste of money. So, if we are not offered an aid package that is reasonable, it will be an easy walk.

We are also walking away from Syracuse. The aid package stunk. Not worth the $20-30k more it is than our other schools, several with honors college. And the weather! LOL It’s not even worth the appeal, because I don’t trust that they won’t change their numbers next year, then we’re really stuck! Luckily, this mess with admissions decisions dropped Syracuse down on her list, so she’s able to deal with moving on.
@helloimbored good call! I think UVA is the wise pick. Good luck!

My D had no problem getting a job in the aerospace industry. She was offered a job before she started her Sr year at UT austin. She is working for Cessna designing interiors of private jets. The downside is that she’s in Wichita KS and most aerospace jobs will not be in the northeast. For a city kid like my D, the transition to a slow paced country town is a huge adjustment. An engineer friend told me if you graduate with an engineer degree, you can get a job in any industry. As most companies know that if you’re able to graduate as an engineer, you’re one of the smartest kids in college. No wrong choice between AE or ME.
