How much of an award is the Orange Distinction Award?
Yes your FA link in My Slice will simply show COA and it would have any deductions noted before you get to the total amount due.
I can’t speak for what they gave to insdiego’s family, but in our case it was 5k/year for 4 years.

I’m not sure if it is the same for everyone. For my daughter it is $2,500 per semester ($5K per year).

thanks - which department did you contact? now I am questioning not reaching out at all? I keep seeing people being granted merit money now and my student has high stats and never received anything. kinda feeling now if you don’t ask you don’t get but those who are asking are receiving.

SU has to be kidding me. we call the financial aid office and ask about the status of our financial package. Their response was, we don’t have your child’s soc sec # on file, must not have put it in the common app. therefore we can’t process your financial package. My response was, she’s already accepted, how do you send out an acceptance letter without her soc sec #? I also added, that other colleges had accepted her and was able to provide us with a financial package. how can the other colleges do it, if she didn’t upload her soc sec #?. Then the admissions person we were talking to, wouldn’t take the # over the phone and told us to email it to them. Like that is more secure? Sorry for the rant…
I understand your frustration and maybe try calling back and speaking to someone else? It does seem ludicrous they would not have your child’s SS on file.
We are still waiting for my d’s financial aid package…no bets it will be ready before May 1. I have to say, I’m very disappointed in SU for not being able to get us this info in a timely manner. Doesn’t bode particularly well for the experience there. My d is down to choosing between Pitt and SU but it will be no contest if we don’t get the info from SU soon. I think either school is a great choice and will be happy when she finally makes the decision.
@raphster87 I would go back into the common app and review the submitted SU application to see for my own eyes that the SS# were in fact on the application at the time of submission. Then I would again contact the Aid office and let them know that in fact, the SS# was submitted from the get go and even email over a screen shot. I am sure this would ensure you had a financial package sent over to you before the end of the business day.
Still waiting on ds package. Its been over a month since she was accepted. Its all great and wonderful they extended their reply deadline but that doesnt do ■■■■ for the other schools shes accepted to, they still want to know by the 1st. We either turn down SU (1st choice), turn down the others hoping for a good enough package & if not one then she doesnt attend anywhere or throw money away to make deposit at 2nd choice
That’s pretty much the discussion going on here too. Though I am going to bet that in the end SU does not come through with enough FA to make it viable. I feel bad for my D - she needs this info to make her decision, and I’d like her to be able to commit to a school and move forward.
Didn’t Syracuse say if you don’t have your package, they will give you a one time $1000 credit if you commit to SU to make up for losing a deposit elsewhere?

I reached out to other schools and asked for an extension. Both schools granted it! However, I did get my aid package from syracuse on monday, and it was really good so I committed today!

Really? How did you ask your schools? I may do the same… I just assumed they would say no! Also, did they email you to let you know your package was done or did you have to continually check your portal? Thank you!
Thats great to hear. Still nothing here, really hoping its here by friday. Feels like i might end up having a heart attack from stressing over it. Otherwise it really feels like she isnt a priority to the school, especially when we have seen so many others getting their packages. I know thats probably not the case, but it def feels that way when i havent seen anyone else that was accepted on 3/19 not have theirs by now.
@Teenybellesmom I hope you hear today! We finally got the package last night. Sadly it was less than we had hoped so Syracuse is not an option for us. Good luck to your family!
I called and spoke with a Fin aid counselor and he said what I was expecting, the financial aid package won’t be completed by the deadline. But based on preliminary #s, we won’t qualify for fin aid and told us to appeal for the merit $. which we did and a day later, got our financial package and Syracuse gave us $5k for this yr and we will need to reapply subsequent years. I wish it was more, but my daughter will commit today.

I just said something along the lines of “I’m incredibly excited about the opportunities I will have at {school} but I wanted to request an extension for the deposit deadline. Another school I am considering has not gotten back to me with my fin aid package, and to account for the delay has extended the date to May 15th. Would it be possible for {school} to do the same?”
