The 2000 number is my recollection from the info session we attended virtually last fall. At the time, it seemed like a fairly daunting number, but when you factor in the number of applications without portfolios it didn’t seem as challenging.
So not the hardest program to get into at SU, but still pretty difficult. It was a helpful exercise when trying to set expectations for our son.

I am trying to follow this Architecture thread. So is it harder/ easier/ same to get into this program relative to the overall acceptance rate of about 50%? Mine was accepted to RPI, but I think Syracuse is his top choice.

I wonder if the same can be said for RPI, whose overall acceptance rate is lower than Syracuse.
I can only suggest what I think is likely the case that admittance to BArch programs across the board are at a lower rate (and in some cases SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER) than the schools overall acceptance rate.

The only difference being at RPI you’re either in or you’re out whereas at Syracuse they give you the option to attend for other majors if rejected for Architecture, which I suppose can work against you there.
I agree with this 100%. These are all relatively small programs and based on what schools have said in admissions tours and similar programs there are many, many applicants for a small number of slots. As one example, VT has an overall acceptance rate of about 50% (depends on what year you look at), but the acceptance rate for the B.Arch program is much lower.

Correct though with most schools they make it known up front not to expect to be able to transfer into the BArch program if you do decide to come in under a different major.
The other thing to note is that because the BArch program usually falls into the Arts/Humanities schools they will often offer acceptance into that school with the other programs usually being fine arts, languages, etc. A kid looking to be an architect isn’t likely to be swayed into a Russian Language degree. 
S23 applied to 12 architecture programs (10 BArch) - 3 of them he was accepted to the school but not the Arch program. It’s a tough admit all around.
I know absolutely nothing about architecture but my daughters art teacher to,d her to join the art honor society because it was important for architecture. My daughter is apparently her top student, but to be honest she’s been a top art student since elementary school, have no idea where she gets it from, all my drawings are stick figure

So do you all think this is a good sign? I was messing around in the kitchen and I accidentally hit off a bunch of papers under a magnet. What was left was an old report card with a sticker of Otto the Orange. Since it is almost his birthday, I think it is a good sign.

My son never so much as drew a stick figure in his life, but he got into several B.Arch programs with a portfolio of photos, woodwork projects, machines and a unique deck design we used for our home. I was worried the lack of art work would hurt him. I guess there are many ways to get in. I hope Syracuse agrees.

Yes, on the right side, if looking on a desktop. However, my daughter’s admissions rep randomly changed to a different person this afternoon.
