Recommend him to submit a LOCI and updates on additional achievements if there’re any. There will be turnovers so the chance to be off the waitlist is not low. Good luck!
What are the benefits of being in the Renee Crown honors college? My daughter has been invited to apply in the acceptance letter, but we are not familiar with why and how to apply.
Hi! I’m currently a sophomore in the program, and it’s been an enriching experience. The community within the college is very supportive, promoting academic and personal growth. With access to specialized honors classes, smaller class sizes, priority registration, and the requirement to undertake a senior thesis, your daughter will have ample opportunities to thrive academically and personally. I wholeheartedly encourage her to seize this opportunity—it’s not just about the title, but about joining a community that’s dedicated to success. Your daughter will have the opportunity to apply to the program after her first semester if she isn’t given admission in your letter.
The process seems to be a lot more straightforward and may be advantageous, as they are only looking at what you’ve been doing on campus your first semester as well as only looking at Syracuse grades. That being said, I don’t think being in the honors program is a “must” to be successful and happy at SU. About half of my friend group isn’t in it and are still doing just as great. If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to reach out!
Thank you so much for the insightful introduction!
If mechanical engineering is the second choice for your son, then they have a reason to worry about whether you would come or not. Yield protection has been a huge thing in this application cycle and we have experienced the same thing many times already.
Posting for future applicants:

What is the feedback for ischool. My D got accepted
D waitlisted for architecture. No mention of offering her second choice major. Her 4th waitlist in last 2 weeks. Getting a little ridiculous. She has other offers with Honors and good merit elsewhere and so she will be alright but the whole process just is so crazy.

Good essays and portfolio
Art major program in her school now.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
iSchool is excellent. It’s an ALA (American Library Association) accredited program. They are extremely helpful with career services and support for their students. Accepted or prospective students should keep in mind that the school itself is extremely small with only about 300 people (undergrad and graduate). On the level 100 classes will be larger, levels 300 and 400 you will be limited to about 15-30 people. Otherwise, excellent school.
That is certainly disappointing, sorry to hear. Similar stats to my admitted kid though we are not SU alums, and he applied ED.
I think there are multiple things going on that make the process incomparable to even 5 years ago. Applications are peaking at an all time high which means many qualified kids will not be admitted. Some schools are trying to get rid of legacy consideration. Some schools (I think SU included) are need aware so given two similar applicants, a full pay kid may be more likely to get admitted. Yield protection is also big which SU may look at multiple ways. SU is very clear that they highly value demonstrated interest. ED is obviously the ultimate demonstrated interest although kids needing aid may not be able to ED.
In your case @twistofkate, did your D apply RD? An RD application from a multi-alum family could be interpreted that SU is actually lower on the kid’s list unless there has been a lot of other demonstrated interest, and/or it’s clear that ED was not feasible due to fin aid considerations.
Yes. RD. Of course it could be any one of a number of factors, but I’ve been reading up a little and believe SU is leaning away from the legacy idea. Whether or not it would be a punitive factor we will never know. I was hoping to glean some ideas from this thread as I have 2 more children in the pipeline.
*also the whole test optional concept is hard to navigate. Maybe she should’ve withheld?
Oregon! I agree, it’s good to a unicorn
Nice to see another Oregonian! We’re from Bend
D offered Maxwell leadership scholar program. They have a special admitted student invite event for that. Should she attend that, or the spring reception? She did a summer class there last year so she knows campus, I’m looking for a way for her to meet people and get excited vs a ‘tour’
From northern Virginia (outside of DC)
Anyone give me guidance on housing? Is it a first come first serve thing or can she wait a few weeks to decide
Cool! Portland here.
Can someone help me understand the difference between the different admitted student events? The email we got says that there are “Admitted On Campus Events”, “Spring Previews” and “Spring Receptions”.
Nice to go to event for the program admitted to, to get to meet program peers.
I can’t speak to the MechE. WL - but further up I think I saw that your sons portfolio contained minimal/no drawings. During the information sessions with their BArch folks the suggest they are looking for the majority of the submission to be hand sketches. That may help explain that decision - though I’m sure it doesn’t lessen the sting of the rejection.
S23 was WL’d at SU for BArch as well and did get an email to come off the WL but for the A&S program (non-Arch). SU was his #1 as well but we quickly put it behind us to focus on the acceptances he had in play.
Your son clearly has the right criteria for admission to SU but acceptance criteria to the different programs can be a mystery.
