I think I may be going crazy - when my son first opened his acceptance letter I’m certain there was a link at the bottom of the page that sent us to his financial offer and now there is no link
We did all the steps for my slice and there is nothing in there. Has anyone else been unable to get back to the financial document? I basically know but I’d like to put all the exact numbers in my spreadsheet

Financial Aid can take a few days to post in MySlice.

There is no rhyme or reason. My middle son was waitlisted two years ago for Biology (A&S) with a 98% GPA, 30 IB/DE credits, and 1510 SAT despite his older brother attending. I was convinced they thought he would never attend (yield protection). They even acknowledged in his decision letter that a sibling was attending the school.

D24 accepted to Newhouse!!
BUT no mention of merit at all. I’m kind of surprised considering her stats and ECs. We won’t qualify for Fin Aid so looks like we’re expected to pay $88k/year.

Can we ask for merit?

You can ask for merit reconsideration. Email your student’s admissions counselor and they will email you the link for the appeal form.

Doesn’t there have to be some rhyme or reason when comparing students side by side from the same school where one is far advanced beyond the other? It defies logic.

Daughter also waitlisted. 4.4 GPA. 1390 SAT. Top 10 in her class of 400. All AP and honors. Varsity sports, several leadership roles. And legacy
myself, my husband and my son all graduates. As you said, this makes no sense.

We had this happen at another school, too. A far inferior classmate was accepted and we were rejected for no rhyme or reason
We eventually found out that they did not ask for aid, and we did on our application. I know it is frustrating and unfair. I thought about calling that school for an explanation, but let it go after a couple of days.

My daughter got waitlisted. Devastated of course. Top of her class at college prep high school. Did the visits/information sessions/emails with AO. Not sure she could have done anything different or more. Her big sister is a junior there now and we’re all in shock. They did offer her the study abroad option for the fall with the guarantee of spring admission to arts and science-but she doesn’t want to go abroad at all.

Honors is a separate application. Congrats!!

Unfortunately that means none

You simply don’t know what a school is looking for. Institutional priorities. Perhaps your son’s classmate has a unique quality that fits the desired SU student population better. It isn’t always 100% about grades and ECs.

My son was accepted off the waitlist last year with a sizable merit scholarship. The speculation on this feed was they need to fill the spots and make it more enticing. He switched gears, accepted and never looked back. He is thriving. Unfortunately my younger son today was offered deferred admission for Fall 2025 and the Verto global program. It’s disappointing to say the least.

Same here. Alumni parent with freshman son. Our son applied to Whitman but was offered study abroad with Art and Sciences in Fall 2025. It’s a hard no.

Any insight or acceptance rate to Honors program? DD was accepted to falk for public health.

Syracuse will wheel and deal to some extent on merit aid. If you have larger awards elsewhere, present those to admissions at Syracuse. Particularly, if schools they compete against, and student is strong, they may match or improve their offer.
