Son got into Maxwell. 1460 SAT, IB Diploma, lots of ECs centered around his intended course of study (including much local community outreach and involvement).

On the applicant portal page they say that any merit will be in the acceptance letter. Other financial aid will be in MySlice when that information is available.
Congratulations! What does OOS mean? Is he interested in sports journalism?
Where is everyone from? I’m a big believer in the theory that they try to get a class that has geographical diversity. We are from CO and I think it has helped my son because not that many students from here apply to schools in the East…
We are from Oregon and got waitlisted so 
Although OregonMom’s daughter did get in 
Out Of State - which a majority of the students at Syracuse are. It’s a private school and takes from all over the country and is not required to fill a certain amount of seats with New York residents.
California. And we’ve had a lot more success with schools on the East Coast and in the Midwest than on our side of the country. 
Son was admitted to the 5-year Maxwell / Computer science joint program, but no merit aid, for the first time at any school he’s been admitted to. Is there any likelihood of negotiating aid? Syracuse is way out of our league without that.

Asking for a friend - son’s friend got an RD acceptance today which listed a $15K award. Is this pre-need based aid? And if there is need based aid is it reduced by that $15K award, or stacked?
That is interesting, as the ED students posting on the Instagram class page are overwhelmingly from NY/NJ/CT, but I expect more of a regional bias with kids who commit ED to Syracuse and the RD pool is much more geographically spread.

No stacking aid at Syracuse, unfortunately! We got 15k in merit, but that’ll be wiped out if we get more than 15K in FA…which, I hope we do for an expensive school!

We are from Pennsylvania.
My kid got in - Syracuse has been his top choice! But no merit. Waiting for him to get home from work to check the actual COA. 3.5 weighted GPA, applied undecided to ECS, taking his first AP classes this year. He showed a lot of interest - regular tour, open house, interview and email to the admissions officer. His essay was pretty specific about what he liked, named the person in the outdoor club he talked to, etc.

Our son was rejected, apparently, for B.Arch. Also waitlisted for Mechanical Engineering. We are beyond flabbergasted that he was only offered some overseas program to gain entry to Arts and Sciences, whatever that means. No mention in the letter of Architecture. Meanwhile, his best friend, who he tutors and who takes no AP courses, does no sports (our son is golf team captain), does no volunteering or community service (our son is National Honor Society), has a much lower GPA (our son is 4.0), is just now taking Pre-Calc (our son got an A in that last year, now takes Calculus), did not submit SAT scores, got accepted for Mechanical Engineering! There is not a single metric by which this could conceivably happen. They were going to be roommates. Oh well, best laid plans. Just absolutely mind-blowing. It’s almost as if they picked names out of a hat. Furthermore, there is a link to Accepted Students page which tells him to go to the portal page to complete an Admission Acceptance Form, presumably for the overseas program, but no such form exists on the portal page. Just a nightmare. What a waste taking college and AP courses, paying for them, when it was all 100% unnecessary to get into this school.
