Did anyone watch last night? The mom with the two little kids was very good, but when Nigel let her little girl onstage to dance in her pink tutu, it was beyond cute. ![]()

And she had a pretty good little releve and attitude goin’ on!!

I haven’t watched it yet, but D and I will watch tonight. Excited!

Just watched the you tube dance…the little girl had it going!

OP, you should tell people where to find it, because I don’t think we’re supposed to post you tube links here.

I think they have, thankfully, changed the youtube rule and links are now ok!

I am so happy that SYTYCD has started back!!! And have you all heard that we get to pick a boy and a girl this year??? :)

FUN stuff!! Summer has officially begun.

I liked the Australian ballet guy. It does seem like summer now!

I saw so many amazing dancers last night. It is going to be a great season (I hope!).

My only reservation is that the dancers are so amazing across the board that the bar is set so high that I fear we will never see a charismatic and compelling but unformed dancer go far again. I wonder if Joshua or even Twitch would go as far as they did if they’d tried out today. I’m sure they’d still get to Vegas but the caliber of dancers is so much higher than it used to be. And a ballroom dancer will probably never win-- if that World Champion from last year couldn’t!! Ditto a tap dancer or broadway dancer. That’s kind of a shame.

What Bree Hafen has is the life experiences that translate through the dance movements. They’re amazing! Gonna be a great season.

I never watched the show -it’s not DH’s thing (we try to pick things we both like and watch together). But I enjoyed the Bree link!

I don’t like the audition shows, but feel if I don’t watch them I won’t get to know the front runners. I record and zip through the bad auditions. Seems you don’t have a chance anymore unless you have some compelling personal story. I’d love to know what happened to some of the contestants that I loved.

What did everyone think about tonight’s episode showing the LA auditions?

I, for one, am THRILLED that they are only showing great or interesting dancers and not spending time on really horrible, embarrassing dancers. There was the one guy last week who had Autistic issues, but they treated him with great respect and encouragement, which was great to see…

The talent tonight was amazing…this season is going to be stunning!

I love this show, and I’m also happy it’s back without the spoof auditions. I was sorry to see that the surfer didn’t make it through choreography–he was adorable. I wasn’t surprised that the circus performer who “danced” with the ring had to drop out, since I didn’t see any dancing in his act, but I figured he was just there to get a little publicity. Some of the “straight to Vegas” decisions puzzled me (the accident victim got a pity pass), while I didn’t understand why the girl whose mother threw her out had to go to choreography. H, who usually isn’t home early enough to watch, saw the show tonight was a bit disdainful of yet another reality competition until I explained that some SYTYCD alums are now appearing on TV in Smash and on Broadway in Newsies. It’s completely ridiculous, but somehow I feel a bit of pride that “my” dancers have been so successful!

I agree with everything you said, MommaJ.

I think that if they really liked the accident vicitim, they would have told him to recuperate for another year and come back.

Last week when they showed the NYC auditions, I wondered if Alex had wandered over to the theater and said, “Well, I guess I won’t be meeting you in Vegas this year.”

^^ Alex? Wong?

MommaJ, regarding the girl whose mom threw her out, I didn’t understand either why she wasn’t sent directly to Vegas. She was one of the most gorgeous dancers all night.

Have never been a regular watcher, but told D2 that I would watch with her this year. Enjoyed last week - really liked the blonde Australian guy - he seemed very well liked!

Mostly excited to watch last nights show to see Jesse Tyler Ferguson guest judge. :)

I, too, was puzzled about the gorgeous dancer who was not given the straight through. Looking forward to next week, when Mia Michaels returns. We know a local young man who made through to Vegas a couple cycles ago. He just adored working with Mia.

Oh no, is Mia returning as a judge? :(

Um, I was watching the show with my mother and on came that cute kid who danced a style called “whacking” and then the judges got a silly fit of giggles about the double entendres? What am I supposed to say to my very prudish nearly 90 year old mother when she asks why whacking is so funny? Awkward! I already hear the lecture weekly about society going down hill!

I could have done with Jesse Tyler Ferguson entirely – he added nothing useful to the comments, though he certainly seems to be a nice guy. One of the other choreographers – someone articulate like Brian Freedman – would have been a help.

We also didn’t get why kicked-out-girl wasn’t sent directly to Vegas. And smashed-up boy did not (at this point) look nearly good enough but got one any way. His sister was fabulous.

I like the tapper, though the show’s history with tap dancers is not pretty. Strange that we saw no ballroom dancers. And I am thankful that the twins are too old. That routine would get painfully annoying very quickly.

Although I really like Jesse Tyler Ferguson, I think it’s kind of insulting to have guest/non-dancer judges at the cattle call auditions. Dancers come from far and wide at their own expense, stand in line, sit there all day getting nervous…seems like the folks critiquing them should have a strong dance background.

But D and I keep telling each other “It’s a TV show.” Yes, they give the TV time to the dancers with touching personal stories, but lots of other dancers get through.
